Posting sorcery killings online to be made crime in PNG
Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister James Marape says witnesses to so-called sorcery killings will soon be prosecuted alongside perpetrators, as well as those who post images of the crimes on social media. The pledge to implement tougher penalties follows the murder of a woman in Hela province in the country's highlands last week. The 45 year old woman was tortured and shot after being accused of using witchcraft to kill her husband and a video of her killing was posted online. In a statement Mr Marape welcomed the arrest of eight men but said recurring incidents of sorcery accusation-related violence are a source of national shame and must end.
