Marquez bags ninth sprint victory of season at Dutch GP
Ducati's Marc Marquez has brushed aside two practice crashes to storm to his ninth sprint victory of the season at the Dutch Grand Prix to extend his MotoGP championship lead despite starting fourth on the grid at Assen. Marquez finished ahead of his brother, Alex, of Gresini Racing and Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi claimed third place for his first sprint podium since 2023 . But pole sitter Fabio Quartararo of Yamaha crashed with four laps to go on Saturday. Marc extends his lead in the championship to 43 points over Alex going into Sunday's race while Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia, third in the championship, could only manage fifth place behind VR46 Racing's Fabio Di Giannantonio. Today I was just calm, trying to control the situations," Marc said. Quartararo had claimed his fourth pole position of the season in qualifying earlier on Saturday and the Frenchman led the pack into turn one when the lights went out. However, he had to elbow Marc out of the way into turn one after the Spaniard had a blistering start off the line, with the Ducati rider leaning so close to him that his right shoulder briefly touched Quartararo's boot. Although he led for most of lap one, Quartararo could not match the pace of the Ducati bikes as Marc eventually took the lead in the final chicane, before Alex and Bezzecchi also overtook the Frenchman. Bagnaia, meanwhile, had qualified second-fastest but he found himself going backwards when fellow Italian Di Giannantonio overtook him and moved up to fifth at the halfway mark of the sprint. Marc nearly surrendered first place when he made a rare mistake and went wide, giving Alex an opportunity to pass him, but the elder Marquez brother quickly slammed the door shut to retain the lead. Quartararo was on the limit as he pushed hard to stay with the lead group and the Yamaha rider's sprint came to an end with four laps to go when he lost his balance at turn 10 and crashed. Meanwhile Australia's Jack Miller was 14th aboard the Pramac Yamaha.

Marc Marquez beats brother Alex in Aragon for seventh sprint win of season
Ducati's world championship leader Marc Marquez recovered from a poor start to win Saturday's sprint at the Aragon Grand Prix ahead of his brother Alex and Fermin Aldeguer of Gresini Racing for an all-Spanish podium on home soil. Marc's seventh sprint victory of the season in eight rounds moved him 27 points clear of Alex in the championship, with the Ducati rider winning by more than two seconds. Marc had broken the lap record in qualifying to take pole but he started poorly, losing traction due to wheelspin, to briefly drop to fourth when he was shoulder-barged aside by Pedro Acosta. Alex, meanwhile, shot off the line to take the lead going into turn one but Marc moved up to second with a neat overtake on turn one of the second lap, setting his sights on Alex. The younger brother managed to hold on for a few laps but Marc pounced once again on turn one, diving in on the inside at the start of the sixth lap to take first place as the home crowd roared in appreciation. "I had a small problem in the start because I started spinning the rear tyre and then I was able to manage and not lose a lot of positions," Marc said. "My plan was try to lead from the beginning until the end but I saw that Alex was pushing a lot on the first two-three laps. That was my weak point, with the soft rear tyre. "(But I) was calm and then in the end of the race the feeling was great, it was perfect." Once Marc moved into the lead, the two brothers disappeared into the distance, even as Marc continued to widen the gap, while Alex's Gresini team mate Aldeguer reeled in Franco Morbidelli and eased past him to take third with three laps left. VR46 Racing's Morbidelli finished fourth and Red Bull KTM's Acosta pipped Fabio Di Giannantonio to fifth place. Marc's team mate and twice MotoGP champion Francesco Bagnaia had another race to forget as the Italian, who started fourth on the grid, finished 12th as he continued to struggle with his Ducati bike.

Alex Marquez wins British GP sprint to end brother Marc's winning streak
SILVERSTONE, May 24 (Reuters) - Gresini Racing's Alex Marquez ended his brother Marc's record streak of sprint victories when he capitalised on a mistake to win the British Grand Prix sprint on Saturday and close in on his sibling in the world championship. Ducati's Marc had won six straight sprints in the first six rounds of the season while Alex had finished second in all sprints, but this time it was a role reversal as the younger brother gave Gresini the sprint win. Marc had lost the lead when he went wide early on, allowing Alex to move into the lead and take the chequered flag while Fabio Di Giannantonio was third for VR46 Racing.
