The Latest ‘Alien: Earth' Trailer Adds Even More Alien Monsters

In the Alien movies, one killer species is more than enough for humanity to deal with. Actually, it's almost always too much. Most everyone usually dies. But, in Alien: Earth, which comes to FX on August 12, it's not just that iconic xenomorph the characters will have to deal with. Four other killer monsters have crash-landed on our planet too. Let the fun begin. From the mind of Noah Hawley, Alien: Earth takes a whole new look at the franchise made famous by the likes of Ridley Scott and James Cameron. It shows a story of a ship that crashes on Earth and the aftermath of that. But that's in service of a larger story about scientific attempts to extend and improve life, which leads to one company transferring the consciousness of sick children into adult robot bodies. Yeah. It's a lot. And you can see it all in this brand-new trailer. This trailer does a pretty good job of setting up how all of these things come together. In the show, Earth is undergoing a scientific race to extend human life. That's led to the creation of cyborgs, which are 'humans with both biological and artificial parts,' synthetics, which are 'humanoid robots with artificial intelligence,' and now, thanks to a company called Prodigy, hybrids, which are 'humanoid robots infused with human consciousness.' That's who Sydney Chandler plays. She's Wendy, the leader of a group of hybrids who have no idea what they're getting into when they are sent in to explore the crash of the Weyland Yutani deep space research vessel USCSS Maginot. The Maginot has acquired and returned with five different alien species for its parent company, and, well, for some reason the ship crashed. What could've possibly gone wrong? We are super pumped for Alien: Earth and we hope you are too. We'll have much more on the show in the coming weeks, including full coverage of the presence at San Diego Comic-Con. Want more io9 news? ‘Alien: Earth' Could, Eventually, Cross Over With the Movies

Here's what we already know about Noah Hawley's upcoming series, Alien: Earth. It's set two years before the events of Ridley Scott's 1979 masterpiece, Alien. It follows several rival corporations competing over a crashed spaceship that contains multiple alien creatures, including the xenomorph. And one of those corporations will send a group of hybrids—robotic beings with the consciousness of humans—in to get the job done. Which all sounds awesome but, also, tangential to the stories we know and love. Stories about Ripley, the Nostromo, LV-426, Colonial Marines, etc. Will Alien: Earth take those events into consideration or, maybe even, cross over with them? The answer is yes. Speaking to Vanity Fair, Hawley revealed that a potential crossover with the films is absolutely in his tentative plans for the show. 'I don't yet know, in terms of the series from beginning to end, how much time is going to pass or where we're going to end up,' he said. 'But I do know that at a certain point, the Weyland-Yutani Corporation is going to divert the Nostromo to that planet.' To explain, if Alien: Earth is set on Earth two years before the events of Alien, the crew of the Nostromo are currently in hypersleep. Eventually, they'll get woken up and told to go to LV-426, where they'll pick up their unwanted visitor. So, depending on how long events of the show go on, that has to happen eventually. What we don't know is how the Nostromo's owners, Weyland-Yutani, knew about the creature being there or who made the decision to send the ship to the planet and why. 'We have the opportunity to maybe see what was happening on the other side of that phone call,' Hawley said. The best part of this tease is that it's miles away from the story Hawley is going to tell come August. His story will not only explore what was happening on Earth as the horror was happening in space but also explain why. And it sounds like a lot. For much, much more from Hawley on Alien: Earth, head to Vanity Fair to read the excellent profile. And we'll have more on the show later this month. Alien: Earth debuts August 12. New ALIEN: EARTH Promo Spot Teases Xenomorph Terror — GeekTyrant

We've got a new promo spot to share with you for Noah Hawley's Alien: Earth , and it teases more of the xenomorph terror that the show has to offers. This series explores the fascinating concept of a human mind being transferred into a Synthetic body. That character is Wendy, who's played by Sydney Chandler. This new footage hints that this new technology comes with consequences. The series is set in the year 2120, the Earth is governed by five corporations: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic, and Threshold. In this Corporate Era, cyborgs (humans with both biological and artificial parts) and synthetics (humanoid robots with artificial intelligence) exist alongside humans. But the game is changed when the wunderkind Founder and CEO of Prodigy Corporation unlocks a new technological advancement: hybrids (humanoid robots infused with human consciousness). When the mysterious deep space research vessel USCSS Maginot crash-lands on Earth, 'Wendy' and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet's greatest threat. According to previously released details, the series will feature five different monsters, making this easily one of the most creature-heavy entries in the franchise's history. The story centers on Wendy, a character played by Sydney Chandler. Wendy's a new kind of character for the Alien universe as she's a human-robot hybrid with 'a child's brain in a bot's body.' She seems to lead a group of synthetic soliders against the alien threat. Hawley explained: 'Sydney's character is someone who's trying to figure out what her role is in this world and, on some level, the age-old question of, does humanity deserve to survive?' The series also stars Timothy Olyphant as Kirsh, Alex Lawther as Hermit, and Babou Ceesay as Morrow, along with Essie Davis, Adrian Edmondson, David Rysdahl, Lily Newmark, and many more. FX's Alien: Earth is executive-produced by Hawley, alongside franchise legend Ridley Scott, as well as David W. Zucker, Joseph Iberti, Dana Gonzales, and Clayton Krueger. Alien: Earth premieres August 12 on FX and Hulu.
