7X, Amazon in deal to transform urban delivery in UAE
7X, the holding group in trade, transport, and logistics managing key entities within its portfolio including EMX and Emirates Post, and Amazon UAE have announced a strategic partnership that will see the two transform urban delivery. Through this partnership, Amazon will leverage the Dark Stores of 7X's logistics arm, EMX, as hyperlocal quick delivery fulfilment hubs to support faster delivery of high-demand products by Amazon's customers. Positioning select inventory closer to customers across various neighbourhoods, will enhance Amazon's delivery speed and bring frequently purchased products closer to customers while reducing traffic congestion, and supporting sustainable urban development goals. This will accelerate last-mile delivery while reducing driving distances and traffic density challenges on major roads. Through 7X's network and Dark Stores, that are already embedded within communities, this approach will help create quieter, less congested neighbourhoods, supporting community well-being and everyday convenience. Bringing products closer to customers also minimizes delivery distance, reducing the environmental impact of online retail operations. On the new venture, Group CEO Tariq Al Wahedi, said: "At 7X, we are building a dynamic ecosystem powered by innovative technology and continuous progress. This strategic collaboration with Amazon leverages our extensive network through our subsidiaries to enable seamless scaling, faster fulfilment, and smarter delivery solutions." "As the partnership evolves, we look forward to exploring additional ways to support customer convenience, operational efficiency, and contribute to the UAE's digital economy and sustainability ambitions," he noted. "The initiative will address growing consumer demand for rapid delivery of everyday essentials such as groceries, personal care items, and electronics. Whether customers need a new phone charger, groceries for a last-minute dinner party, or diapers for their baby, by reducing the distance between products and customers, all their needs are covered," he added. Ronaldo Mouchawar, Vice President of Amazon Middle East, Africa, and Turkey, said: "7X has been our long-standing valued partner since Amazon's launch in the UAE, and this latest collaboration exemplifies our shared innovative spirit. This partnership underscores the power of inter-sector collaboration, demonstrating how logistics innovation and eCommerce expertise can converge to serve today's digital and online retail landscape, while supporting the UAE's infrastructure efficiency, transportation and sustainability goals." "We prioritize integrated urban planning, and ensure that, as we grow, we continue to serve the UAE's national agenda. As we enhance customer convenience across the UAE, we are proud to be working alongside 7X to contribute to the UAE's digital economy," he added.-TradeArabia News Service Copyright 2024 Al Hilal Publishing and Marketing Group Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. Zeekr's new mid-sized SUV to arrive in Australia
Don't miss out on the headlines from On the Road. Followed categories will be added to My News. Tesla's hold on Australia's electric vehicle market is set to face a fresh challenge with the arrival of Zeekr's medium-sized electric SUV. The Chinese manufacturer will launch its new Zeekr 7X model in coming weeks, positioning the car as a direct rival to the Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7, and other popular mid-size electric SUVs already available in the country. Zeekr launched in Australia with the smaller X, a compact SUV that doesn't match the space of Tesla's best-selling Model Y. But the new model is ready to take on the top EVs in the market today. Building on the momentum from its recent launch in Hong Kong, the Zeekr 7X has strong potential in Australia. 2025 Zeekr 7X. (Picture: Supplied) MORE: The new EVs for Elon haters The company believes the 7X will carve out its niche with its focus on spaciousness and premium features. There will be three distinct models heading to Australia's shores: the Rear-Wheel Drive (standard range), the Rear-Wheel Drive Long Range, and the Performance All-Wheel Drive variants. The standard RWD model has a 71 kWh battery paired with a powerful 310kW/440 Nm rear motor, delivering a claimed range of 480km. If you're looking for more than that, the RWD Long Range model retains the robust 310kW motor while introducing a 94kWh battery, which boosts the WLTP range to 615km – a substantial 28 per cent increase. Finally, the Performance AWD trim keeps the 94 kWh battery while adding an additional front electric motor, which increases the total output to 475kW and 710 Nm of torque. This allows for impressive acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. However, this performance is accompanied by a slight reduction in driving range, now 543 km, based on WLTP standards. The 7X promises a higher level of luxury compared to the Tesla, featuring amenities such as 'polar bear' air suspension with variable height adjustment (only available in the All-Wheel-Drive variant), Nappa leather interiors, and advanced cabin technology. (Picture: Supplied) We tested the model in a sneak preview earlier this year, when Matt Campbell found that the car has 'all the ingredients to get it right' – as long as Zeekr can price the car competitively. Though pricing has not been officially announced, speculation suggests the 7X Rear-Wheel Drive model could start at approximately $65,000 to $70,000 before on-road costs. The Rear-Wheel Drive Long Range version is expected to be priced around $75,000, while the All-Wheel Drive variant is likely to fall between $80,000 and $85,000. If these figures are accurate, it would place the 7X $6,000 to $10,000 higher than that of a comparable Tesla Model Y. MORE: Aussies 'shafted' in cops' AI move 2025 Zeekr 7X electric car. The vehicle features an 800V architecture that enables it to charge from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in just 10 minutes. It supports both 22kW AC charging and 450kW DC fast charging, allowing for an addition of 241 km of range in only 5 minutes. Luggage capacity is a generous 616 litres, and all models include a 'frunk' – a front trunk – offering 62L of space in rear-wheel drive models and 44L in dual-motor versions. 2025 Zeekr 7X electric car. Pitched as an extreme measure to help people survive cars submerged underwater, the escape mechanism is triggered by a lever under the steering wheel that uses a spring-loaded metal punch to shatter the driver's window. The feature is only available in left-hand-drive models for now. Drone deliveries to see trial use in Abu Dhabi
The UAE took its first steps into autonomous aerial logistics, as several groups pool resources to trial drone deliveries and advance ambitions around smart mobility services. Aviation technology provider Lodd Autonomous and public postal company 7X stated the drone delivery pilot held in capital city Abu Dhabi is a significant advance for the nation's logistics sector. 'Autonomous drones introduce a transformative layer to urban delivery networks', Lodd Autonomous CEO Rashid Al Manai explained. The trial opens the potential for a single operator to 'manage multiple deliveries simultaneously', Al Manai said, highlighting the 'new level of scalability and responsiveness' the step would bring to the logistics sector. Lodd Autonomous and 7X worked with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office on the trial, advancing targets of the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council involving integrated mobility set-ups. The trial also required collaboration with the General Civil Aviation Authority and Integrated Transport Centre. Humaid Saber Al Hameli, director of the centre's aviation transport division, explained airspace security and safety are priorities, with work ongoing to ensure regulations keep pace with developments in the unmanned aerial systems space. Lodd Autonomous and 7X pledged to maintain collaborations with regulators and industry players as drone delivery projects advance. Ultimately, Abu Dhabi aims to rely more heavily on drone-based deliveries in its wider logistics set-ups: it committed to keep progressing regulations and focus on infrastructure developments as it seeks to lead regional development of autonomous air mobility systems.
