Congress showing hypocritical love for BCs: NVSS Prabhakar

Khammam: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state leader and former Uppal MLA NVSS Prabhakar came down heavily on the Congress government, accusing it of betraying the Backward Classes (BCs) with misleading surveys and manipulated data. Speaking at a press meet held here on Saturday during his district tour, Prabhakar alleged that the Congress party's concern for BCs is nothing but 'step-motherly and deceitful love.' He claimed that the government is experimenting with BC rights for political gains. He recalled that during the previous BRS government, the comprehensive household survey indicated that BCs made up nearly 55% of the population. 'How can the BC population suddenly appear reduced in the current survey being conducted by the Revanth Reddy-led government, when the same administrative machinery is involved?' he questioned. Prabhakar demanded an explanation for the discrepancies in data and alleged that this is a deliberate conspiracy to suppress BCs politically. He warned that such manipulation of statistics and inclusion of other communities into the BC list amounts to a betrayal of true BCs. He also criticized the Congress government's move to introduce 42% reservations, claiming it would harm genuine BCs. 'Even Muslims are benefiting under the 10% EBC quota. The primary beneficiary of this distorted reservation policy will be the AIMIM party,' he alleged. Prabhakar mocked Congress's rhetoric, saying its affection for BCs is comparable to 'the blind hug of Dhritarashtra,' implying it is sentimental but destructive. He accused the party of misleading people with false assurances instead of offering real solutions.

Rahul Gandhi refused appointment to CM Revanth, insulted people of Telangana: BJP chief

HYDERABAD: BJP state president N Ramchander Rao has accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of showing disrespect to Telangana's people by allegedly denying appointment to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, while the latter could easily secure an audience with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Union Ministers. Ramchander Rao also criticised Gandhi for skipping Parliament sessions where critical issues were being discussed. During a visit to Delhi on Monday, Rao met with BJP national leaders, including Sunil Bansal, Arvind Menon, and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. He is scheduled to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president J.P. Nadda on Tuesday. The BJP state president said that Revanth Reddy visited Delhi 46 times since becoming the chief minister but could not get an audience with the Congress party leadership, which he said was an insult to the people of the state. He further accused the Congress of wrongly blaming the BJP and Union government on the issue of Backward Classes (BC) reservations. He pointed out that the BJP supported the BC reservation bill in the state Assembly but criticized Congress for supporting a 10% reservation under the BC quota on religious grounds, which he said his party opposes. Ramchander Rao raised concerns about the Congress government's failure to seek legal expertise before sending the BC reservation bill or recent ordinance to the central government, noting that such matters fall under the Ninth Schedule. He referred to Tamil Nadu and I.R. Coelho cases, which are under judicial review, and argued that the Congress is aware of the 50% reservation cap and yet continues to blame the BJP for political gain. Addressing factionalism in the BJP, he said that disciplinary action would be taken against those who crossed the party line, asserting that there is no distinction between new and old members. He expressed confidence that both state and national leadership would resolve any internal issues, big or small.

Cong govt misleading BCs on quota issue: T BJP chief

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Monday accused the Congress govt of misleading the public and attempting to shift blame onto the Centre over the issue of Backward Classes (BC) reservations. He demanded an apology from the state govt for what he described as a 'betrayal' of the BC community. Addressing his first press conference in Delhi, Rao cited the landmark Kesavananda Bharati case to argue that laws placed in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution are still subject to judicial review. "Even reservations implemented by the former Jayalalithaa govt in Tamil Nadu, though placed under the Ninth Schedule, are still pending in court. The Supreme Court reaffirmed this in the 2006 Kohli versus Tamil Nadu case," he pointed out. He accused the Congress of using legal complications as an excuse to delay local body elections while wrongly blaming the Centre. Rao urged the state to study the Madhya Pradesh model, which allows reservations above the 50% limit by using villages as units for calculation. If they want to increase BC quotas, they must first amend section 285 of the Panchayat Raj Act. So far, no one has even seen a copy of the ordinance," he said. He criticised the Congress leadership for what he called political neglect. "Chief minister Revanth Reddy has visited Delhi 46 times in the last 19 months, but Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders have not met him even once. In contrast, PM Modi and Union ministers have," Rao said. "Rahul Gandhi's refusal to meet Telangana CM is an insult to the people of Telangana," he added. Meanwhile, Rao dismissed talk of factionalism in the state BJP. "There is no old-versus-new group. Some are creating this narrative intentionally. If anyone lacks discipline or damages the party, action will be taken. As state president, I will address such issues in coordination with the national leadership," he said.

Centre seeks information on Telangana bills for 42% quota for Backward Classes (BCs)

HYDERABAD: In a significant development ahead of local polls , the Centre has sought a clarification from the state govt regarding the Backward Classes (BC) reservation bills. The Congress-led govt has introduced two pivotal bills that aim to allocate 42% reservations for BCs in both education and political representation. In an effort to fortify these initiatives, the state govt has appealed to the Centre to incorporate these provisions into the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution, which will allow for reservations quota that surpasses 50%. Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, after getting the bills from the state govt, has forwarded them to the President three months ago. In response to this inquiry, the state govt is diligently preparing a comprehensive reply, collecting detailed information from various departments to substantiate its claims. 'Crucial changes' "If the Centre finds the state's responses satisfactory, it may subsequently refer the bills to the Union law department for further consideration," the sources said, suggesting a process that could bring about crucial changes to reservations in the state. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Experts in constitutional law provide insight into the judicial landscape, noting that while the Supreme Court has not definitively ruled that overall reservations for any category must not exceed 50%, it has emphasized the necessity for scientific justification to support any reservations beyond this limit. "Given this context, we are cautiously optimistic that the Centre may grant approval for the BC reservations bills," the sources said Amid these developments, BJP has emerged as a vocal opponent of Muslim reservations included in one of the bills. Interestingly, reports suggest that the Centre has not sought any clarity regarding the inclusion of Muslims in the enhanced reservations for BCs.
