Dinosaurs make serviceable return
THERE is a comforting familiarity to Jurassic World Rebirth, the seventh instalment in the long-running Jurassic franchise and a standalone sequel to Dominion. It is big, it is loud and yes, it has dinosaurs. Not too many, mind, but enough to keep the scales of nostalgia tipping just slightly in the film's favour. Directed by Gareth Edwards (Rogue One) and written by original Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp, Rebirth brings back the dino-mayhem blueprint that has delighted fans since 1993 – send a group of highly trained (or hilariously underprepared) humans into a remote island full of prehistoric predators, stir in a corporate agenda and let the chaos unfold. It is nothing groundbreaking, but as far as cinematic comfort food goes, this one is served reasonably warm. The humans are... there Headlining this summer's prehistoric parade is Scarlett Johansson as covert ops specialist Zora Bennett, a character that, despite Johansson's undeniable screen presence, often feels written by committee. Her team includes Mahershala Ali as Duncan Kincaid and Jonathan Bailey as Dr Henry Loomis, the film's designated brain with a heart. The dynamic trio is joined by a rotating cast of civilians and crew members whose screen time hovers somewhere between 'mildly essential' and 'why are you here again?' Truthfully, the human characters in Rebirth are a bit of a mixed bag. Some scenes deliver genuine chemistry, while others veer into full-on awkward territory, particularly when characters engage in clunky exposition or try too hard to be witty. Still, the cast gives it a decent go and while some moments border on cringe, there is a strange charm to how earnestly everyone throws themselves into the chaos. Over time, the awkwardness begins to feel almost endearing like watching a school play where half the cast are Oscar nominees and the other half wandered in from a sunscreen commercial. Bailey deserves an upgrade If there is one standout in the ensemble, it is Bailey. As the team's resident palaeontologist, he strikes the right balance between wide-eyed dino awe and quiet intellect. He brings a grounded energy to the film that keeps it from tipping too far into self-parody. Bailey plays Loomis like someone who walked in from a more serious movie and it works. His performance is perhaps the film's most consistent, even when the script occasionally lets the character drift. It is easy to imagine him fronting future entries in the franchise, should Universal decide to keep the bones of Rebirth alive. And if so, here is hoping they write more for him to do. Dino-light, franchise-heavy Here is the twist: for a film that bears the name Jurassic, Rebirth feels slightly underpopulated in the dinosaur department. Yes, the creatures show up and when they do, it is thrilling, the usual mix of stomping, snapping and strategic slow reveals. But in between those moments are long stretches focused on human tension, moral dilemmas and... dialogue. A lot of dialogue. There is an expectation, especially among franchise loyalists, for dinosaurs to dominate the screen. Instead, Rebirth sometimes sidelines its scaly stars in favour of plot-heavy missions and side character interactions that may or may not lead anywhere. It is not a deal-breaker, but it does leave one wondering if the film could have used at least five more minutes of uninterrupted dino panic. Maybe ten. Good enough and then some In truth, Jurassic World Rebirth is one of those rare sequels that knows exactly what it is: a mid-tier, high-budget romp that will absolutely land with the franchise's faithful and potentially win over curious newcomers with its slick visuals and high-stakes jungle shenanigans. For returning fans, the allure is simple: dinosaurs are back, the score swells nostalgically and there is enough connective tissue to earlier films to feel like a worthy entry. For casual viewers, the appeal lies in its self-contained storyline and spectacle, a blockbuster with just enough meat on the bone to make the ticket worthwhile. Some characters feel unnecessary, others grow on the audience over time. Bring the popcorn, lower the expectations Rebirth does not reinvent the fossil, but it does not have to. It delivers serviceable thrills, a decent dose of dino drama and one or two standout performances, all wrapped in the comforting cocoon of franchise familiarity. Some characters feel unnecessary, others grow on the audience over time and while the story never breaks new ground, it never completely loses its footing either. If anything, the biggest gripe is not about pacing or plot, it is that the dinosaurs deserved more screen time. In a movie titled Jurassic World Rebirth, there should be more... Jurassic. Still, for a summer blockbuster, it is good enough. Just do not expect it to be Jurassic Park all over again. Instead, accept it for what it is: a surprisingly watchable sequel with the occasional cringe, the occasional cheer and most importantly, dinosaurs. Because at the end of the day, no matter the plot holes, awkward character beats or missing T. rex minutes, one simple truth remains: People will always come back for the dinosaurs. CAST: Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Mahershala Ali, Luna Blaise E-VALUE: 6/10 PLOT: 5/10 ACTING: 6/10

Jurassic World Rebirth vs Dominion vs Fallen Kingdom Day wise India box office collection showdown
It's been just over 10 days since the release of Jurassic World: Rebirth in India. The Scarlett Johansson film took a reasonably good start of Rs 10 crore gross without premieres, given how it didn't get adequate showcasing. After healthy growth over the weekend, the movie didn't trend as well over the weekdays as it should have. With Superman entering the marketplace and with F1 already going strong, it seemed as though the dinosaur film would bow down to its competition. Jurassic World: Rebirth Is A Hit In India, Courtesy Its Exemplary 2nd Weekend Trend It's then that Jurassic World: Rebirth really showed its brute force. After a solid 2nd Friday hold, it grew by over 150 percent, for a franchise best Rs 8.25 crore gross. The growth on Sunday was muted but that's because Saturday had already overperforming. Regardless, it again registered a franchise best second Sunday of Rs 8.75 crore gross. After 10 days, the collections of Rebirth in India stand at Rs 81.30 crore gross. Dominion was at Rs 71.60 crore at this juncture while Fallen Kingdom was at Rs 83.35 crore. Dominion went on to gross Rs 85.50 crore in its full run and Fallen Kingdom ended its run grossing Rs 108.25 crore. Both of the latter films had premieres; something the former didn't. Jurassic World: Rebirth Chases Fallen Kingdom As The 2nd-Highest-Grossing Jurassic World Movie In India Rebirth was already expected to cross Dominion, given its higher collections and superior trend. Now, with a remarkable 2nd weekend trend, it chases Fallen Kingdom to become the second highest grossing Jurassic World film in India, unadjusted for inflation. In terms of ticket receipts, while Rebirth will comfortably sell more tickets than its predicessor Dominion, it shall fall short of Jurassic World, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and obviously the original Jurassic Park film in 1993, that took the world by storm. The uptick in the collections and footfalls of the Jurassic World series in India is a good sign. With better plots and bigger conflicts, it can also get back the loyal audience it had up until 2015. My 3 Top Stocks to Buy in a Market That's Highly Volatile (Again)
Dominion Energy is the kind of stable utility stock that's great to own during turbulent markets. Enbridge has a lower risk than ever before with its midstream and natural gas utility businesses. Vertex Pharmaceuticals boasts a strong cystic fibrosis franchise along with exciting new products and pipeline candidates. 10 stocks we like better than Dominion Energy › "Please fasten your seatbelts." Anyone who has flown frequently has probably heard those words before. It's what airline pilots and flight attendants tell passengers when the ride is about to get bumpy. If you haven't noticed yet, stock market turbulence has returned thanks to a familiar culprit -- tariffs. I suspect it could get worse. Investors may want to fasten their seatbelts metaphorically. However, being cautious doesn't mean you can't still put money to work. Here are my three top stocks to buy in a market that's highly volatile (again). Utility stocks tend to fare quite well during turbulent markets. It's easy to see why. Their businesses and revenue streams are largely immune to bad things that happen at the macroeconomic level. Many utilities are regulated monopolies, so they don't even have to worry about competitive threats. I think Dominion Energy (NYSE: D) is a fantastic utility stock to buy with renewed market volatility. The company provides electricity to 3.6 million residential and business customers in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. It provides natural gas service to around 500,000 customers in South Carolina. Dominion is also a leading developer of renewable energy. As you might guess, this is the kind of stable business that's great to own when the going gets tough. Another positive about most utility stocks is that they pay solid dividends. Dominion Energy checks off this box, too. Its forward dividend yield is 4.64% right now. Even if the stock treads water, investors can still make money. One knock against utility stocks is that they can be boring. However, I don't think that's true for Dominion Energy. Why? For one thing, the company serves markets with fast-growing populations. Also, Dominion's home state of Virginia is the hottest spot on the planet for data centers. With a huge artificial intelligence (AI) tailwind driving data center demand, Dominion's growth prospects look good. A few years ago, Enbridge (NYSE: ENB) probably wouldn't have ranked among my top three stocks to buy in a volatile market. Granted, it wouldn't have been a bad choice. The company's pipelines would still transport oil and gas throughout the U.S. and Canada regardless of stock market dynamics. Today, though, Enbridge is arguably less risky than ever. Its 2023 acquisitions of three U.S. businesses previously owned by Dominion Energy increased Enbridge's stability. The company is now the largest natural gas utility in North America based on volume. Enbridge is still classified as a midstream energy stock. However, the company says that it has "a utility-like business profile." That's a good description, in my opinion. Enbridge also pays a dividend that's even better than utility-like, with a yield of 6.11%. Could the Trump administration's tariff on Canadian imports hurt Enbridge, since many of the company's pipelines transport oil and gas from Canada to the U.S.? I don't think so, at least not all that much. It helps that tariffs on energy imports are 10%, well below the 25% level on most products. More importantly, the U.S. needs Canadian fuels. Vertex Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: VRTX) isn't a regulated monopoly like Dominion Energy. However, the big biotech company markets the only therapies that treat the underlying cause of cystic fibrosis (CF), a rare genetic disease. You can bet the farm that physicians will continue prescribing Vertex's CF drugs, patients will continue taking them, and insurers will still pay for them regardless of what happens with the stock market. I expect Vertex's CF business will strengthen in 2025 and over the next few years. Its newest CF therapy, Alyftrek, is as powerful as the company's current top-seller, Trikafta. But its once-daily dosage is more convenient. In addition, Vertex pays lower royalties on Alyftrek than it does with its other CF drugs. There's good news across the board with this new therapy. But Vertex has even better news. The company recently launched another new drug called Journavx. It's the first new class of pain medication approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in over two decades. Journavx isn't an opioid and doesn't have the addictive qualities and side effects associated with opioids. I predict this drug will quickly become another blockbuster for Vertex. As icing on the cake, Vertex's pipeline is loaded with promising candidates. I'll mention just one of them: povetacicept. This late-stage program targets IgA nephropathy, a kidney disease that affects more than 1 million patients -- nearly 10 times the patient population for CF. Jurassic World Rebirth Box Office: Roars back in second weekend emerging HIT
Jurassic World: Rebirth had a solid second weekend at the Indian box office, collecting Rs. 20.25 crore (USD 2.35 million) approx. The film eased off just 53 per cent off its first weekend, despite facing a major new release. For comparison, Dominion had tumbled 71 per cent in its second weekend, while Fallen Kingdom fell 69 per cent. The film had a decent to good opening last week, but following a sharp decline on weekdays, its prospects started to look a bit dim. However, it first surprised with a good hold on Friday and then witnessed a massive 150 per cent surge on Saturday. The Sunday business was relatively flat, but when Saturday goes that high, there is always a chance of muted Sunday growth. It seems like the film will play stronger on the weekends and then slow down on weekdays. This is a typical pattern for Hollywood films, but for Rebirth, it seems much more extreme than seen with the previous instalments in the franchise. The total gross for the film after ten days in release stands at Rs. 81.25 crore (USD 9.50 million) approx. It seems poised to cross the Rs. 100 crore gross mark, which seemed doubtful after the first week. It needs to be seen if it can go higher and take down Fallen Kingdom as the second highest grossing film in the franchise, chances of which look pretty good after the weekend it had. The film is a HIT at the Indian box office, a welcome recovery after the slip of Dominion. The Jurassic franchise is one of the biggest from Hollywood, which has given two major blockbusters. Ideally, these films should be grossing over Rs. 200 crore or even Rs. 300 crore in India, but the quality of films has always been off after the first one, which is one of the greatest films ever made. The Day wise Box Office Collections of Jurassic World: Rebirth in India are as follows:

Jurassic World Rebirth Box Office: Holds steady on second Friday, Back on track to 100cr
Jurassic World: Rebirth held steady on its second Friday, fending off competition from Superman and a couple of Hindi releases. The film grossed Rs. 3.25 crore approx yesterday, dropping just around 10 per cent from the previous day. With that, its eight-day total stands at Rs. 64.50 crore (USD 7.50 million) approx. The previous two Jurassic films, Fallen Kingdom and Dominion, suffered over 20 per cent drops on their second Fridays when faced with new releases. A similar dip was expected for Rebirth, especially after its weekday declines, which would not have been good. The film avoided that drop and has now set itself up for a good second weekend. Rebirth had a solid first weekend with a healthy trend last week, which gave it a shot at Rs. 100 crore plus final. However, the weekdays saw steeper-than-expected drops, which seemed to put that out of reach. Now, with this hold yesterday, Rs. 100 crore is back on the menu again. Jurassic is one of the most lucrative Hollywood franchises in India. While Rebirth may not match the heights of its predecessors, it is a course correction from the franchise low of Dominion. In most of the countries, Rebirth is going to end below Dominion, but in India, it is now headed to finish over it by a good 20-30 per cent. The box office collections of Jurassic World: Rebirth in India are as follows: NOTE: The above numbers are excluding 3D charges. Including 3D charges, Jurassic World: Rebirth grossed Rs. 3.75 crore on its second Friday and the total gross stands at Rs. 73.25 crore (USD 8.55 million).
