‘Currently in talks': Sky Sports journo drops major Monday morning bombshell as Utd ‘present project' to target

Manchester United have reportedly upped the ante in their pursuit of Benjamin Sesko. After several days of fans questioning whether the Red Devils would even officially enter the race for the Slovenian, they've now 'presented their project and financial offer' to him – but are vying neck and neck with Newcastle United. Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg confirmed this morning that the two clubs had stepped up their efforts to convince Sesko, with the Magpies 'pushing a lot' to get a deal over the line. All parties are 'currently in talks'. Why Newcastle are particularly desperate to win race for Benjamin Seko Sesko is an in-demand forward. (Photo by) It'll come as no surprise that Newcastle are really doing their utmost to sign the sought-after 22-year-old. They are now begrudgingly preparing for Alexander Isak's prospective exit after he informed the board he wanted to explore new options this summer. Liverpool, thought to be his first-choice suitor, have just signed off on a £65 million deal that'll see Luis Diaz join Bayern Munich this week, giving them a timely financial boost to prepare their blockbuster proposal for Isak. Newcastle have also suffered a series of snubs this summer, having watched primary targets Hugo Ekitike, Bryan Mbeumo, Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and James Trafford all opt for moves elsewhere. Now, it's safe to say they're floundering to reinforce Eddie Howe's options ahead of a campaign in which they have Champions League football to account for. United set sights on Sesko swoop As for United, they have had to navigate setbacks of their own: Delap was also atop their shortlist heading into the window while Viktor Gyokeres prioritised an Arsenal switch over a reunion with Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford. Now, both clubs are awaiting Sesko's decision. Formal offers are expected to be sent RB Leipzig's way after a verbal agreement has been reached. Journalist: Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Bayern Munich midfielder

Tottenham Monitoring Joao Palhinha as Bayern Consider Options Spurs show interest in experienced midfielder Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Joao Palhinha's situation as Bayern Munich remain open to offers. According to Florian Plettenberg, the interest is not yet concrete, but Palhinha's representatives are aware of Tottenham's monitoring. Photo IMAGO 'Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring Joao Palhinha's situation. It is not concrete at this stage, but there is interest,' reported Plettenberg. The 30-year-old defensive midfielder has been a long-term target for Premier League clubs, and with Bayern now prepared to engage in talks, his future may be revisited. Bayern's stance is clear: 'Bayern are open to talks should suitable offers arrive for the 30 y/o.' Tottenham, seeking greater balance in midfield under Thomas Frank, may yet decide to escalate their interest. Our View – EPL Index Analysis Joao Palhinha is undoubtedly a solid midfielder, and if Spurs had signed him from Fulham a year ago, few would have objected. But now, at 30, the deal starts to feel less like forward planning and more like a patch job. Photo: IMAGO We've seen this film before. A veteran name becomes available, Spurs show interest, talks drag on, and eventually either the price is too high or someone else swoops in. If this is just posturing, then fine. If it's serious, then you hope the club have done the long-term analysis. Palhinha could bring structure and aggression to their midfield, but how does he fit stylistically? Can he keep up with the pace Frank wants? And Bayern are not desperate sellers. They know what they have. So do Spurs really need to take this on unless it's for the right fee, the right contract length, and a clear role within the squad? It's not about saying no to Palhinha, but about asking the right questions. Because after so many misfires, Spurs can't afford to make another short-sighted call.

Sunderland reach verbal agreement with Granit Xhaka; Bayer Leverkusen reject first offer

Florian Plettenberg reports that Sunderland have reached a verbal agreement with Granit Xhaka (32) over a three-year contract, until 2028, with an option to extend for a further year. This comes just 24 hours after Xhaka made it known that if he was to leave Bayer Leverkusen, then it would only be for Sunderland, despite interest from Inter and Milan, as well as a verbal agreement with Saudi club Neom SC – although the Swiss midfielder and his family appeared hesitant on a move to Saudi Arabia. As such, Sunderland are now in pole position. According to Plettenberg, negotiations between Sunderland and Bayer Leverkusen are now ongoing but the Bundesliga side have rejected an opening offer from the Black Cats, who returned to the Premier League for the first time since 2017. With no agreement, as of yet, in sight, die Werkself are demanding up to €20m for Xhaka. GGFN | Daniel Pinder
