Android Circuit: Honor Confirms Record-Breaking Magic, Fairphone 6's Twin Launches, Galaxy Z Fold7 Pricing
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Taking a look back at this week's news and headlines across the Android world, including Samsung confirms Galaxy Unpacked launch event, Z Fold7 and Z Flip prices, Galaxy's pre-release offer, Pixel 10 specs, Google makes trade-ins more attractive, Fairphone 6 launch, Honor confirms record-breaking Magic V5, and Chrome changes down below. Android Circuit is here to remind you of a few of the many discussions around Android in the last seven days. You can also read my weekly digest of Apple news here on Forbes. Samsung Confirms Next Galaxy Unpacked Event Samsung has confirmed the launch of its next handsets, widely expected to be the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7. It's an early launch in the summer season, which will allow Samsung to set the 2025 story around foldables: "On July 9, Samsung Electronics will host Unpacked in Brooklyn, New York – a borough with an extraordinary spirit and a distinctive history. Brooklyn is where visionary thinking and bold ideas shape the future, so it's only fitting that Samsung unveils the latest and greatest additions to the Galaxy portfolio in a place known for its culture, creativity, and collaboration. The event will be streamed live on Samsung Newsroom, and Samsung's YouTube channel beginning at 10 a.m. ET, 3 p.m. BST, and 4 p.m. CET." (Samsung Newsroom) Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 Prices Leak Samsung is being cagey around the pricing of the two new foldables, but reports from retailers with advance notice suggest that consumers are going to appreciate a move to stay stable on the Fold, and cut the price for the Flip "The latest report says that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 should cost the same as the Z Fold 6 at launch, i.e., €1,999 for 256GB, €2,119 for 512GB, and €2,359 for 1TB. Even better, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will supposedly launch for a lower price than the Z Flip 6. The report states that the 256GB Galaxy Z Flip 7 in Europe will undercut its predecessor by €100 and hit the shelves for €1,099 instead of €1,199. Meanwhile, the 512GB Galaxy Z Flip 7 variant should cost €1,219 instead of €1,319." (WinFuture via Sammobile) Samsung's Pre-Release Galaxy Offer There's more value to be found for Samsung's existing customers who are looking to upgrade to the new phones. Reserve your spot for one of the new phones now, and if you go on to complete the purchase, you'll get credit for the Samsung store: "Under the slogan Ultra Unfolds, Samsung is promising $50 of Samsung Credit for anyone who fills out a reservation form with their name and email address. If you then go on to buy one of the devices that's launched, you'll get a $50 credit to the Samsung store following your preorder and purchase." (Forbes). Pixel 10 Specs Gogole's Pixel 10 family will follow Samsung's foldables, likely near the end of August. Details on all four handsets are coming out, especially the Pixel 10. New specs suggest a brighter screen and a larger battery, albeit with a slightly weaker camera that resembles the Pixel 9a rather than the Pixel 9. The most significant change remains inside with the new Tensor Mobile chipset… although the specs backing it up are staying steady: "Internally, these specs won't surprise you, but we're looking at the Tensor G5, which will be manufactured on TSMC's 3nm process. It will also be paired with 12GB of RAM – the same amount of RAM as the $1,299 Galaxy S25 Ultra – and either 128GB or 256GB of storage. Unfortunately, Google is not upping the storage on the base model this year, nor offering a higher storage tier." (Android Headlines). Google's Pixel Trade-In Prices Rise Google even has a promotion to engage the trade-in market, with its online store offering discounts supported by traded-in handsets that will provide up to £1045 off the list price. That's one of the best Google deals for many years: "I have covered almost every Google deal in the last two years and I haven't seen the company raise its trade-in prices by this much before. Perhaps it heard the grumbles about how poorly it has historically valued your old phone, or it saw Samsung's similarly high price trade-in deal. Whatever the reason, this is good news for customers." (Forbes). Fairphone 6 Launch Fairphone has launched its latest repairable phone in the Fairphone 6. Notable for its modularity and ease of repair, the company is bringing that to the fore with the sixth mainline model. It comes with three different accessories that can replace the back plate (a finger loop, lanyard clips, or a card holder), and at launch it ships with either Google's flavour of Android, or the privacy-focused e/OS/. Yet the underlying philosophy of the company remains: "Fairphone 6 is as easy to repair as ever, with the company supplying spare parts and video tutorials on how to replace all of the key components. Fairphone 6 is E-waste neutral, assembled in factories with fair labor conditions and boasts an excellent repairability rating from the EU's new energy efficiency label. Fairphone is also offering a five-year warranty and eight years of software support." (GSM Arena). Honor Magic V5 Previewed Honor has not only confirmed its new foldable to launch in July, but has also announced that its quest to create the thinnest foldable possible has resulted in a phone that is as close as possible to a regular candybar phone when closed: "The new model will come in at 8.8 mm when closed, Honor tells Power On. That means it will very likely be the world's thinnest foldable phone when it debuts. The V2 came in at 9.9 mm, while the current V3 measures 9.2 mm. It is believed that the latest Honor phone will be thinner than Samsung Electronics Co.'s upcoming Z Fold 7, which will also be introduced in July. Apple, for its part, is poised to launch a foldable at the end of 2026." (Power On). And Finally... A literal and finally this week, as Google finally allows Android users to move the Chrome address bar to the bottom of the screen: "Depending on the size of your hand and your device, one address bar position may feel more comfortable than the other. We designed this update to give you the flexibility to choose your preferred location — so you can browse with more ease. If you'd like to move your address bar, long-press on it and select the "Move address bar to bottom" option. Or just navigate to the Settings menu and select 'address bar' to choose your preferred spot." (Google Keyword Blog). Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 real world images show off a shallow crease and stunning design

It also boasts a battery that Samsung probably won't include in its traditional flagships, let alone foldables, for quite a while: 5165 mAh. Furthermore, it even has 50W of wireless charging (and 67W wired), while theis expected to have 25W of wired seen in the images above, the crease on the Flip 2 is also very shallow. Considering how that's been my biggest pet peeve against foldable smartphones, this phone appeals to me more than most of its has continued the design of the first Mix Flip, particularly the cameras on the exterior display. Samsung is adopting this same design, and getting rid of the large camera cutout on the. That design will now be used for theFE Mix Flip 2 will give thea run for its money. With these display upgrades, Galaxy Z Flip 7 is the ultimate Samsung clamshell
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 will be unveiled next month, and become available for purchase in August. Much like the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung has drastically improved the design of its clamshell foldable phone, and it's basically as good as it gets for now. A new leak ( translated source ) adds on to previous reports about the phone's display upgrades over the Galaxy Z Flip 6. The exterior screen is going up from 3.5 inches to four inches, while the main display is going from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches. When unfolded, the Flip 7 will be just as large as most flagship smartphones nowadays. Furthermore, corroborating the recent leaked Flip 7 renders, the outer display will have more screen real estate, as the camera cutout has been removed. That design will now be seen on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, Samsung's budget foldable that is also going to be announced next month. The FE will become available for purchase in August as well. Leaked Galaxy Z Flip 7 render. | Image credit — Evan Blass Lastly, the report claims that the bezels of the main display have been further narrowed down. The Flip 7 is basically as good as clamshell foldable smartphones can get, except for the battery, of course. In classic Samsung fashion, the battery is expected to be pretty small compared to the competition, and the charging speeds will be slow as well. Speaking of the competition, the Flip 7 reminds me of the Xiaomi Mix Flip. That phone is almost as large as the Flip 7 , and doesn't have a large camera cutout either. Its bezels are pretty narrow as well, and its battery is bigger too. The Mix Flip is also powered by a Snapdragon processor. Samsung will be using the Exynos 2500 for the Flip 7 , while the upcoming Mix Flip 2 will use the Snapdragon 8 the Flip 7 , all Samsung needs to do now is improve its battery capacity and charging speeds. If long-term software support or One UI aren't that important to you, then the Mix Flip 2 is probably a much better choice. But the Flip 7 will definitely give Xiaomi a run for its money. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7, Fold 7, and tri-fold availability leaked
Samsung is going to unveil its new Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 foldable smartphones next month, alongside a possible Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. Availability for these phones will start shortly after, though the tri-foldable — possibly named Galaxy G Fold — will be available for purchase a little later in the year. Leaked Galaxy Z Fold 7 render. | Image credit — Evan Blass According to a report ( translated source ), the Flip 7 and Fold 7 will become available to the general public in August, approximately one month after their announcement. Samsung will be holding a Galaxy Unpacked event in New York City on July 9, where these phones will be shown off. The Flip 7 FE, though not directly named in the leak, will most likely also become available in August after being announced in July. Samsung has promised its most advanced foldable yet, and from leaks we can see that the Fold 7 makes the Fold 6 look ancient. Samsung's tri-fold will directly challenge the Huawei Mate XT. | Video credit — Huawei The tri-fold, which will see a very limited release in a select few markets, will also be unveiled in July, alongside the Flip 7 and Fold 7 . However, though there isn't a confirmed date just yet, the report estimates that this phone will become available in tracks with Samsung's plans to launch it this year shortly after its other foldables, before moving on to a wider launch around the globe if it sells well. The G Fold will only see around 200,000 units manufactured for now, as Samsung has very subdued sales expectations due to the cost. According to the multiple reports we've seen till now, the Fold 7 is shaping up to be a massive leap over its predecessor. The only aspect I can complain about is the battery, which is expected to be the same 4,400 mAh as the Fold 6. It will also only charge at 25W when wired, another somewhat disappointing remnant that desperately needs an upgrade. However, seeing rival offerings like the Oppo Find N5 and the Honor Magic V5, I think it's about time Samsung caught up. Coupled with the long-term software support ( seven years ) and people's preference for One UI, Samsung could be looking at a winner here. The Fold 7 may even reverse the foldable industry's decline, though that may just be wishful thinking. If you were looking for the most advanced foldable on the market, you'd probably still do well with the aforementioned Find N5 and Magic V5. But if software support is important to you, the Fold 7 or the G Fold are your best bet. Secure your connection now at a bargain price! A new Galaxy Z Flip 7 rival brings impressive specs, and a truly strange add-on
Xiaomi TL;DR Xiaomi has launched the Mix Flip 2 foldable phone in China. The new foldable has a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and a battery that's larger than the one inside the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Xiaomi is also offering a portable camera kit, which combines a camera grip with a photo printer. Samsung will launch the Galaxy Z Flip 7 in a couple of weeks, and we've already got a rough idea of what to expect. What if you want more impressive Flip phone hardware, though? Well, Xiaomi has just launched the Mix Flip 2, but it also comes with one of the strangest accessories we've seen in a while. Xiaomi offers several accessories for the Mix Flip 2, such as a screw cap case that protects the cover screen. However, the portable camera kit is the standout add-on here. This is a hybrid camera grip and thermal photo printer. The kit connects to the bottom of the phone and offers a camera shutter button. However, the accessory also spits out photo prints via a slot on the back. The portable camera kit looks quite cumbersome, and there's an argument that this defeats the purpose of a Flip foldable in the first place. After all, one of the advantages of this form factor is the pocket-friendly approach. Most people are probably better off buying a standalone portable photo printer, but it's an interesting idea nonetheless. In fact, I wouldn't mind seeing similar camera grips for the top camera phones. What else to know about Mix Flip 2? Xiaomi's device stands out from other clamshell foldable phones thanks to a large, 5,165mAh battery. This would dwarf the Galaxy Z Flip 7's rumored 4,300mAh battery and is slightly larger than the Galaxy S25 Ultra's 5,000mAh cell. Need to top up? Well, the phone also offers 67W wired and 50W wireless charging. We've heard conflicting rumors about the Galaxy Z Flip 7's processor, with the latest leaks pointing to an Exynos 2500 chip. However, the Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 ships with a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. This is expected to be more powerful than the Exynos SoC, theoretically making it better for demanding workloads and advanced games. Otherwise, the Xiaomi foldable has a 6.83-inch 120Hz folding OLED screen (2,912 x 1,224, 3,200 nits peak brightness). Xiaomi says this screen has a 'Super Flat Crease' that's apparently certified to stay flat after 200,000 folds. Meanwhile, a 4.01-inch 120Hz cover screen (1,392 x 1,208, Dragon Crystal Shield 2.0 protection) is available on the outside. This external display supports 500 commonly used apps, while Xiaomi has also brought three new animated pet avatars to this panel. In a fun touch, the Mix Flip 2 can also turn pictures of your real pets into animated avatars on the cover display's lock screen. Check out the official video below for a better idea. Moving to the cameras, the flip foldable offers two Leica-branded 50MP rear cameras. There's a 50MP main camera (Light Hunter 800, 1/1.56-inch) and a 50MP ultrawide lens. Expect a 32MP selfie camera on the folding screen, although you can also use the rear cameras to take selfies. Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 price and availability The Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 is available in China and starts at 5,999 yuan (~$837) for the base 12GB/256GB model. Want the portable camera kit? Then you'll need to spend 699 yuan (~$98). We've asked Xiaomi about global availability and will update our article accordingly. For what it's worth, the original Mix Flip was available outside China but was restricted to a few markets. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ .
