Rajang Port Authority club launches five-month weight loss challenge for members
Hayati (centre) chairs the annual general meeting. SIBU (June 21): The Rajang Port Authority Sports and Recreational Club (Raport) on Friday launched a five-month Weight Loss Challenge as part of its renewed commitment to promote health and wellness among its members. Raport president Hayati Kiprawi announced this during the club's 50th annual general meeting cum annual dinner at Lakis Hall, An-Nur Mosque here. Speaking to The Borneo Post, Hayati said the idea behind the challenge was 'simple yet impactful'. 'We started by weighing ourselves today during the AGM. Over the next five months, members are free to do whatever it takes, whether it's exercising, eating better, or changing habits, to lose weight. 'Then, we'll have an official weigh-in again to see the results,' she said. The challenge is open to all Raport members, with no selection or pre-qualification. Participation is entirely voluntary and self-monitored, although final results will be based on official weight records taken at the start and end of the challenge. 'This isn't about strict tracking or pressure. It's a step toward being healthier. Even I'm joining! It's meant to be fun, and there's a prize for motivation,' she added. To encourage participation, Raport is offering a RM200 hamper as a prize for the member who achieves the most significant weight loss. Hayati shared the story of Kelvin Kerry, a young Raport staff member who independently managed to lose 30kg – from 120kg to 90kg – over the past year. 'He wasn't part of any official programme, but his determination was inspiring. We hope he can serve as a mentor figure to others in this challenge,' she said. With over 80 active members, Raport hopes the programme will inspire collective effort and positive lifestyle changes among its members. 'We don't set a fixed target for weight loss. Whether you lose 3kg or 10kg, it's a win if you feel healthier and more motivated,' she said. She said beyond the Weight Loss Challenge, Raport has a full calendar of engaging activities lined up for 2025 including a cooking competition, sports tournaments, and even e-gaming events like Mobile Legends, which will be introduced for the first time this year. 'We want to move beyond just participating, we want to win. Whether it's cooking, futsal, badminton or even e-gaming, we're setting targets and aiming to place,' said Hayati. She also expressed her intention for Raport to be more active and competitive in external tournaments this year and to bring back the winning spirit the club was once known for. 'It's not just about medals. It's about engagement, pride, and building community. We're evolving – with traditional and modern games alike,' she said. Hayati said as the club celebrates its 50th year, it is confident that these new programmes will not only boost health awareness but also rekindle camaraderie and active participation across its growing membership.

[Watch] Mobile Legends Tournament In UPM Mosque's Prayer Hall Draws Public Outrage
Subscribe to our FREE A viral video showing a Mobile Legends gaming tournament being held inside the main prayer hall of Universiti Putra Malaysia's (UPM) mosque has sparked intense public backlash across Malaysian social media. The footage reveals gaming equipment and participants occupying space directly in the mosque's prayer area, an arrangement that many have deemed disrespectful to the sacred space. The social media response has been divided: some defended the event, arguing that 'the mosque is a place of unity, not just prayer.' At the same time, others suggested that the event could be acceptable under certain conditions: 'as long as they stopped during prayer time, game content not lewd, appropriate clothing, and controlled noise levels.' However, many voices expressed shock at seeing gaming activities within the main prayer hall, reflecting deeper tensions between preserving religious sanctity and adapting to modern youth culture. Masjid UPM jadi tempat karnival Mobile Legend?! THIS IS NOT OKAY! Terkejut sangat bila masuk masjid, tiba tiba ada satu ruang, penuh students main game tanpa hira orang keliling. At the same time 2 jenazah tengah bersedia untuk solat jenazah di Masjid! Admin approach polis bantuan. Diorang pun tak ok. Admin minta nak jumpa organiser. Tapi last sekali polis dah settlekan. Sungguh memalukan! Ini ke hasil graduan menara gading research uni and top uni yang di banggakan Malaysia! Langsung takde sensitiviti! Main game dah satu hal. Dalam masjid lagi satu hal. Muka organiser lepas kena tegur langsung takde rasa bersalah. I am super worried bout our younger generations! Jemput semua viralkan sebab sadly orang zaman sekarang lagi takut viral dari takut Allah 😡 Tak tahu macam mana program macam ni boleh dapat kelulusan?! Esports Growth And National Recognition This controversy arises as Malaysia's esports industry experiences significant growth. A global video game company, MOONTON Games, has recently established a Based in Shanghai, China, MOONTON Games is best known for its mobile games, including The collaboration focuses on supporting Malaysian gamers, particularly in their pursuit of winning gold in MLBB at the upcoming SEA Games. Karnival Jom Heboh 2025's first day draws crowds despite sweltering heat
KUALA LUMPUR: Hundreds flocked to Karnival Jom Heboh 2025 on its opening day, undeterred by the sweltering heat and the fact that it preceded the weekend tomorrow. The event, held at KL Base, offered an exciting line-up of activities for families, music lovers, gamers and fans of local entertainment. Nana Hamdan, 38, from Johor made the trip with her family, taking the opportunity while her husband had work commitments in KL. "It is a chance to bring the kids out during the school holidays," she said. Though familiar with the Johor version of Jom Heboh, this was her first time attending the KL event. Describing the atmosphere, she said: "It seems livelier here, with more stalls and vendors. We always try to visit the Jom Heboh events to support the traders and to meet celebrities." Nana recalled previous events in Johor with numerous celebrities, adding: "As soon as we got to the parking area, we could feel the excitement." Zakri Shah, 39, a representative from Kaotim, a booth at the event, noted that this was not their first time. "I've been attending (to Jom Heboh) since 2023. Previously, I went to the ones in Kuching, Shah Alam and Johor Baru," he said. Friday saw a lower turnout but they were more optimistic for the weekend. "Visitors will come in large numbers on Saturday." Meanwhile, Muhamad Fadli Ikhwan, 27, an enterpreneur, came with his friends to participate in the Mobile Legends tournament. Commenting in the low turnout, he said it could be due to it being a Friday. "Usually, Jom Heboh is crowded." The day's heat, however, didn't dampen their enthusiasm, as one of Fadli's friend said: "It's okay, but it's hot." The day's activities kicked off at 9am with Zumba with Ejen Ali, followed by a colouring contest at the mini stage at Studio Tonton Drama Sangat. Visitors were entertained during the Nasi Lemak Kopi O' meet-and-greet at 11.30am, as well as a Didik TV edutainment session and the Buletin Challenge hosted by familiar anchors from TV3 and TV9 throughout the day. The day will end with the 'Ejen Ali: The Movie 2' voice actor meet-and-greet session at 6pm followed by karaoke later tonight.

Pre-teen marvel eyes career as e-sports athlete
PETALING JAYA: For 10-year-old Dante Mikail, balancing school and gaming is part of daily life. The rising semi-professional e-sports athlete is already making a name for himself in the competitive gaming scene. Touted as a generational talent by his coach, Dante, fondly known as Mika, dreams of becoming the greatest e-sports player of all time, despite also having a flair for drumming. 'I want to pursue a career as an e-sports athlete. This is my passion, and I'm willing to work hard to achieve my dream. Playing the drums is just something I do to pass the time,' he told theSun. Mika plays for Mypro, a semi-professional e-sports team in Petaling Jaya. A fan of fighting games, he is currently competing for a spot on the national team for an under-18 tournament. 'I want to be part of the Malaysian Street Fighter team for an international tournament in Bahrain. To get there, I need to win a qualifier. That's my goal this year.' On his role models, Mika put his coach, Muhammad Zarif Aiman Aris, 27, known in the gaming world as Zaba, at the top of the list. 'My (other) idol is South Korean pro Knee (Jaemin Bae). He is one of the world's best Tekken players. Coach Zaba is 'crazy' when he plays, he makes incredible comebacks. Watching him win when he's on the verge of losing is unforgettable.' Despite being much younger than his peers, Mika said he feels accepted, adding that the older players do not hold back when they compete. 'I get trounced all the time. Even coach Zaba never takes it easy on me. But outside of matches, they treat me like one of their own. That makes me feel comfortable and helps me make friends,' he said. Zaba, who has represented Malaysia at international tournaments, said Mika's talent stands out in an industry with mostly older players. 'Mika showed great promise at nine. Tekken is a complex game, it's like playing chess at high speed. Most kids his age stick to mobile games like PUBG or Mobile Legends,' Zaba said, adding that Mika could go far with the right focus. 'I've been in the industry for a decade, and he's one of the best young talents I've seen. If he stays dedicated, he could become like Thailand's star player Nopparut 'Book' Hempamorn.' Mika's parents, who requested anonymity, said they prioritise his education. His father, who only wished to be known as Syam, said it was his son's passion for gaming that convinced the family to support his pursuit of a professional career. 'His enthusiasm is what drives us to encourage him. If he weren't passionate, I wouldn't even send him to compete in tournaments.' On concerns about his son's future, Syam said every child has their own strengths that deserve nurturing. 'Life needs balance. If we stop our children from doing what they love, they might pursue it behind our backs. As long as it's healthy, we should guide and support them. Every child is different, we can't ask an elephant to climb a tree. It just wouldn't be fair.' Syam also said they keep a close eye on Mika's studies. 'He does well in Maths and Science, although Bahasa is a bit of a challenge. He's catching up after the setbacks during the Covid-19 lockdown.'
