Netflix fans keep watching 'underrated' comedy with 'perfect' Ricky Gervais

It is said to be an underrated film of the genre and ideal for fans of the comedian Netflix fans keep watching an 'underrated' comedy movie featuring a 'perfect' Ricky Gervais. ‌ Ghost Town, was recently added to the streamer's extensive library and has quickly become one of the most watched titles on the service. At the time of writing, it currently sits at number six in the top 10 chart for top films among UK users. ‌ This places it just behind recent release Happy Gilmore 2 at the top and Adam Sandler's original film at number four. However, the 2008 release is certainly enjoying a resurgence in popularity with many viewers rediscovering the supernatural rom-com. ‌ According to the film's synopsis, after a near-death experience during a routine colonoscopy, people-hating dentist Bertrum Pincus, played by Gervais, is shocked to discover that he is suddenly able to talk to the dead. Constantly cornered by unhappy spirits who want him to help resolve their earthly problems, the misanthropic Pincus is driven to distraction. Eventually talked into helping the dearly departed Frank Herlihy, played by Greg Kinnear, Pincus attempts to talk to Frank's widow, Gwen. But problems arise when Bertram is smitten with her. ‌ Ghost Town was directed and co-written by David Koepp, who has a distinctive filmography, mostly as a screenwriter. He has penned the scripts for movies including Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, the original Jurassic Park, Tom Cruise's The Mummy reboot and most recently spy thriller Black Bag and Jurassic World Rebirth. ‌ The film earned a more than respectable rating on Rotten Tomatoes of 85%. Many critics like fans were impressed with The Office co-creator Gervais' performance in what was his first leading film role. Gervais had previously had smaller parts in Stardust and Night At The Museum. It is now considered a hidden gem of a romantic comedy, perfect for fans of the comedian or the genre. One fan, sharing their thoughts online, said: "What an underrated romance-comedy with some life lessons learned throughout. They don't make movies like this anymore I think." Another posted: "This is one of my favourite comedy films that is great for repeat viewing. Ricky Gervais is perfect as the grumpy dentist that just wants to be left along, and Greg Kinnear serves as the perfect foil." While a third added: "Hilarious and beautiful romantic comedy that perfectly tackles the feeling of loneliness and redemption. Underrated by most, but not by me."

Golden beach an hour from London starred in famous film but is miles from the sea

Nestled between Farnham and Hindhead in Surrey, Frensham Great Pond is just an hour and a half drive away from London and has golden sands despite not being near the sea Just a stone's throw from London lies an idyllic sandy beach that has featured on the big screen – but interestingly, it lies nowhere near the sea. It's easy to forget that you don't need to travel all the way to the coast to enjoy a brilliant beach day – especially as the weather continues to heat up. Instead, you can make your way to Frensham Great Pond in Surrey. The Green Flag award-winning site boasts excellent water quality and soft yellow sands. ‌ Located between Farnham and Hindhead, Frensham Great Pond is just an hour and a half drive away from London. This makes it the perfect daytrip spot for anyone around the area. ‌ ‌ While the pond is a popular spot for families during bouts of warm weather, there are times when the pond quiets down and you can enjoy a much more peaceful swim. As reported by The Sun, one swimmer wrote on Facebook: "Cracking swim at the famous Frensham Ponds in Surrey. Had the whole place to ourselves, bliss!" Another described it as a "lovely place for a stroll.' They also said that the pond was 'ideal for families' going for a swim. The pond is part of the larger Frensham Common, which is about a thousand acres, and which includes Frensham Little Pond. It is owned and managed by the National Trust and Waverley Borough Council. ‌ Both ponds were built in the Middle Ages under the direction of the Bishop of Winchester William de Raleigh, in order to provide fish for his visits to Farnham Castle. Frensham Little Pond was also used as a tank training ground during World War II, after it was drained. The pond was then acquired by Mr Atherton in 1949, who had it refilled, before giving it to the National Trust 1974. ‌ It's also a hotspot for wildlife lovers. Frensham Common is one of only two sites in Surrey where you can find all six of the UK's native reptiles: the smooth snake, grass snake, adder, sand lizard, common lizard and the slow-worm. Occasionally, Blue-Green Algae can be found during summer months. In this case, a sign will go up to warn swimmers about entering the pond. Frensham Pond also has an extensive star-studded legacy. One of its most notable appearances was in the 1999 film, The Mummy, for a Nile scene. The pond also stole the limelight in Snow White and the Huntsman when it was used to depict a fishing village. The cast included Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth. It's also been used as a backdrop in several TV series, including the 1960s Carry On Jack. The popular series, The Witcher, starring Henry Caville, also includes Frensham. Meanwhile, Frensham Little Pond made an appearance in the Netflix series, Cursed. There, it was used to portray Nimue's home village.

'Spine-chilling' horror remake with near-perfect RT rating now streaming

A horror film lauded as 'outstanding' is streaming right now on Amazon Prime Video. The Invisible Man, directed by Leigh Whannell, revitalised interest in Universal's proposed Dark Universe, which was set to bring the classic Universal Monsters back to the big screen. Following the box office flop that was The Mummy, Whannell's 2020 adaptation of The Invisible Man was widely praised by critics thanks to how it tackled themes of domestic abuse. It stars Elisabeth Moss as Cecilia Kass, a woman trapped in a violent and controlling relationship with wealthy optics engineer and businessman Adrian Griffin (Oliver Jackson-Cohen). After finally leaving, it is reported that Adrian has died by suicide. But Elisabeth is still subjected to his terror after it is revealed that he developed technology to become invisible and torment his ex. It grossed a whopping $145million (£107.7m) worldwide against a $7m (£5.2m) budget and received numerous accolades, including a Critics' Choice nomination. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video The Invisible Man boasts a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with the critics' consensus reading: 'Smart, well-acted, and above all scary, The Invisible Man proves that sometimes, the classic source material for a fresh reboot can be hiding in plain sight.' In their review, The Times said: 'It uses its serious theme to give extra force to a tale that already has plenty of flair as a pure and simple spine-chiller.' The Ringer wrote: 'A thriller whose mandate is to startle its audience with surface-level shocks while simultaneously subverting expectations in a deeper way, dropping us out of our comfort zone toward some sunken place.' The Jewish Chronicle added: 'Elisabeth Moss delivers an outstanding performance as a woman teetering on the edge of reality in this thoroughly engaging reboot.' 'Whannell expertly plays with our fears: the sudden metallic screech of a dog dish accidentally kicked in the quiet; the house's labyrinthine hallways; the breathing darkness of an empty road,' Seattle Times praised. In 2019, it was confirmed that a spin-off titled The Invisible Woman was in development with Elizabeth Banks set to star. However, she revealed that the film was on hold while Universal focused on a sequel to The Invisible Man. More Trending 'For one thing, what happened was they made an Invisible Man movie, and they're making another one,' she told 'So I think Universal wants to see that through. I'm really interested in the idea that we have, and it is still there, but it's not something I'm actively working on in this moment in time.' Last year, Moss confirmed that developments on the sequel were ongoing, and it was then announced that her production company, Love and Squalor Pictures, was working with Blumhouse Productions on the film.
