'Spine-chilling' horror remake with near-perfect RT rating now streaming
The Invisible Man, directed by Leigh Whannell, revitalised interest in Universal's proposed Dark Universe, which was set to bring the classic Universal Monsters back to the big screen.
Following the box office flop that was The Mummy, Whannell's 2020 adaptation of The Invisible Man was widely praised by critics thanks to how it tackled themes of domestic abuse.
It stars Elisabeth Moss as Cecilia Kass, a woman trapped in a violent and controlling relationship with wealthy optics engineer and businessman Adrian Griffin (Oliver Jackson-Cohen).
After finally leaving, it is reported that Adrian has died by suicide. But Elisabeth is still subjected to his terror after it is revealed that he developed technology to become invisible and torment his ex.
It grossed a whopping $145million (£107.7m) worldwide against a $7m (£5.2m) budget and received numerous accolades, including a Critics' Choice nomination.

The Invisible Man boasts a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with the critics' consensus reading: 'Smart, well-acted, and above all scary, The Invisible Man proves that sometimes, the classic source material for a fresh reboot can be hiding in plain sight.'
In their review, The Times said: 'It uses its serious theme to give extra force to a tale that already has plenty of flair as a pure and simple spine-chiller.'
The Ringer wrote: 'A thriller whose mandate is to startle its audience with surface-level shocks while simultaneously subverting expectations in a deeper way, dropping us out of our comfort zone toward some sunken place.'
The Jewish Chronicle added: 'Elisabeth Moss delivers an outstanding performance as a woman teetering on the edge of reality in this thoroughly engaging reboot.'
'Whannell expertly plays with our fears: the sudden metallic screech of a dog dish accidentally kicked in the quiet; the house's labyrinthine hallways; the breathing darkness of an empty road,' Seattle Times praised.
In 2019, it was confirmed that a spin-off titled The Invisible Woman was in development with Elizabeth Banks set to star.
However, she revealed that the film was on hold while Universal focused on a sequel to The Invisible Man. More Trending
'For one thing, what happened was they made an Invisible Man movie, and they're making another one,' she told ComicBook.com.
'So I think Universal wants to see that through. I'm really interested in the idea that we have, and it is still there, but it's not something I'm actively working on in this moment in time.'
Last year, Moss confirmed that developments on the sequel were ongoing, and it was then announced that her production company, Love and Squalor Pictures, was working with Blumhouse Productions on the film.
The Invisible Man is streaming now on Prime Video .

'Perfect' cat and mouse thriller that 'keeps you guessing' is streaming this weekend
The star-studded mystery thriller and its sequel are both coming to streaming this weekend. Popular heist movie Now You See Me is available to stream this weekend alongside its sequel film, Now You See Me 2. Fans are being urged to re-watch the films ahead of 2025's Now You See Me: Now You Don't, which will mark the third film in the trilogy when it is released in November. While the critical consensus for the film is decidedly mixed at 51%, Now You See Me has a respectable Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 70%, with one fan describing it as the 'perfect cat and mouse' story. Other fans have described the heist movie as a 'comfort watch', with many applauding the film's entertaining twists. The stylish magician-focused flick also comprises a stellar cast, including Mark Ruffalo, Jessie Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher and Dave Franco, as well as Hollywood legends Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman. The synopsis for the movie reads: 'Charismatic magician Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg) leads a team of talented illusionists called the Four Horsemen. 'Atlas and his comrades mesmerize audiences with a pair of amazing magic shows that drain the bank accounts of the corrupt and funnel the money to audience members. 'A federal agent (Mark Ruffalo) and an Interpol detective (Mélanie Laurent) intend to rein in the Horsemen before their next caper, and they turn to Thaddeus (Morgan Freeman), a famous debunker, for help.' Fans can now catch up with the original film and its sequel on Paramount+, which has a seven-day free trial included in its subscription. Taking to the comments section of Rotten Tomatoes, fans have shared their thoughts on the 2013 thriller. Many praised the film's ability to entertain, with one writing: 'Such a fun movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it from the first scene to the last. So entertaining!' 'Entertaining and I loved that I didn't have it figured out,' another agreed, while a third wrote: 'Maybe people just don't like magic but I was TOTALLY entertained. Love it!' Others gave the film a perfect score, with one fan writing: 'Absolutely amazing. Unique magic tricks and a new form of heists involving entertaining suspense. 10/10. I loved it.' 'Loved it! Perfect cat and mouse movie leaving you guessing the entire time,' another agreed. More fans praised the film's many twists, with one commenting: 'A thrilling movie that keeps you guessing at every single turn on what the Four Horsemen might do and why they do it.' Another enthused: 'Absolutely loved the movie, very clever, twists and turns, great acting and actors I love! I will watch this many times!' 'This is one of my favorite movies to watch. I love the twist and how they use their shows to present it to you,' one more fan penned, as another concurred: 'One of my favourite movies.' Another fan left a thoughtful review, which read: 'The magic isn't just confined to the vocation of the main characters in this complex and charismatic 2013 crowd-pleaser.' One more person summed up their thoughts on the film by writing: 'Now You See Me delivers a fast-paced, stylish thrill ride that blends the intrigue of a heist film with the spectacle of stage magic.' However, not everyone was a fan, with one viewer complaining: 'Boring , predictable, and the ending draws on for nearly 30 minutes.' Another shared: 'Not my cup of tea. Plenty of good performers here, but overall it seemed weak and not as spectacular as it could've been. The ending plot twist seemed a little dry and not as breath grasping as it could've been.' One more fan provided a balanced review, reflecting: 'I realise this movie has its flaws…it's a bit precious, the characters are a bit cartoonish, and the plot is contrived and strains the imagination. That being said, it's one of my favourite comfort films, as it requires nothing but suspension of disbelief and a willingness to be entertained without any further expectations.' Now You See Me and Now You See Me 2 are available to watch on Paramount Plus from Saturday, July 26.

Netflix viewers rush to watch 'compelling' reboot of classic Scottish crime series
The recent reboot of the famous Rebus has been added to Netflix as viewers are just discovering the world of Detective Inspector John Rebus and they can't get enough A modern retelling of a legendary Scottish crime drama has quickly become a hit on Netflix, with viewers calling it "absorbing" and "compelling" as it climbs the streaming platform's top TV show charts. The revamped Rebus series originally premiered on the BBC last year and is inspired by Ian Rankin's long-running Inspector Rebus novels. The first book, Knots and Crosses, hit shelves in 1987 launching a franchise that has since grown to include 24 titles. With most of the stories set in Edinburgh, the series follows the investigations of the complex and gritty Detective Inspector John Rebus and has made a massive impact on the British crime fiction scene - accounting for around 10% of the UK's crime novel sales and consistently selling over 500,000 copies per release. Back in 2000 Rebus was first adapted for television, with John Hannah taking on the title role. The show continued until 2007, with Ken Stott leading the cast in later seasons. The new version introduces Richard Rankin, known for his roles in Outlander and Burnistoun, as a younger Rebus bringing a fresh energy to the character while maintaining the dark tone that fans love. The synopsis reads: "The story follows Detective John Rebus as he deals with an infamous Edinburgh gangster, at the same time dealing with the aftermath of his divorce and a changing workplace." Critics were quick to praise the reboot, branding it as "terrific" and describing Rankin's performance as "alluring." Similar fans have praised the reboot, with many taking to Rotten Tomatoes to review the series, with Rebus having an impressive 100% rating on the review site. One fan wrote: "This is a very good series. Richard Raskin is much different from Ken Stott, but he's great in the role. I also liked Rebus' partner and ex-wife, too. This series reminded me of Crime, starring Dougray Scott." Another viewer simply stated: "Very good series with a likable lead." While one viewer praised the casting, saying it had him hooked, as they said: "The casting was great. Rankin is a sympathetic and handsome lead. I like the fact that none of the main characters are without fault and all have their vices. I was sucked into the story and watched the whole season over a number of days." Speaking to the BBC about his role as Rebus, Raskin said: "Rebus is an iconic character in Scottish literature and television. It already has such a huge following. That aside, it was within the first ten pages of episode one that had me absolutely hooked." "I could tell Greggory Burke [the show's screenwriter] was doing something new and exciting with this. It felt real, it felt dark, and it felt charged." He added that the series was a "dark, cinematic and gritty character drama." The show's debut episode drew an impressive 6.3 million viewers across all BBC platforms and later went on to win three RTS Scotland Awards. Now that the series has landed on Netflix, a new wave of viewers are discovering (or rediscovering) the world of Rebus. Fans will be pleased to hear that a second season has already been confirmed. According to the BBC, the upcoming storyline will see the detective "uncover the links between the violent world of the Edinburgh drug trade and the city's law and finance sectors."

Comedy hailed as 'the best show on TV right now' is cancelled after 4 seasons
A hilarious comedy with a 98% Rotten Tomatoes score has been canceled after four seasons. Resident Alien first premiered in 2021, with Superman star Alan Tudyk leading the cast alongside Linda Hamilton, Nathan Fillion, Michael Cassidy and Sara Tomko. The cult classic sci-fi series airs on USA, and is also available to stream on Netflix in the UK. It is based on the comic book of the same name, following alien Harry after he crash lands in a small town in Colorado and befriends the locals. Although the fourth season is currently unfolding on our screens, TV bosses have confirmed that the upcoming episodes will be the last. Creator Chris Sheridan spoke to TV Insider about the show coming to an end, explaining: 'I knew going into it that this was likely going to be our final season. 'Creatively, that was exciting because I knew we could spend the time wrapping up some storylines and driving toward an ending. 'I'm so proud of how good season four is and especially proud that we were able to finish as strongly as we did, with a finale that is probably my favorite episode of the series.' That finale is set to air on August 8, meaning there isn't too long to wait to see how Harry and the gang end up. Alan reacted to the news on Threads, posting: 'It was a hell of a fun playground to play in. Laughter through the tears:))).'
