How to watch 'The Sandman' Season 2: Premiere date, time, cast
More episodes of Season two of "The Sandman" are releasing on Netflix, with a series finale wrapping up the fantasy horror TV show at the end of July. The show revolves around a character named Morpheus, also known as the dream, played by Tom Sturridge. Morpheus works to restore his mystical realm known as the Dreaming after being imprisoned for a century. Once freed, the dream tries to repair his life by regaining his magical tools, which takes him to hell to visit Lucifer, played by Gwendoline Christie and in search of a deranged human, played by David Thewlis. In 2025, Netflix announced that 'The Sandman' would end after its second season. Showrunner Allan Heinberg told Variety in a statement that the show ending was a creative decision. However, the cancelation was also in light of sexual assault allegations against the creator Neil Gaiman, as previously reported by USA TODAY. "'The Sandman' series has always been focused exclusively on Dream's story, and back in 2022, when we looked at the remaining Dream material from the comics, we knew we only had enough story for one more season," Heinberg said to Variety. What time does The Sandman season 2 premiere? The first six episodes of The Sandman Season 2 were released on July 3. Five more episodes will be released on Thursday, July 24 at 3 a.m. ET / 12 a.m. PT. The series finale will be available to stream on Thursday, July 31. Where to watch season 2 of The Sandman The new episodes of The Sandman will air on Netflix. The Sandman season 2 cast Watch The Sandman season 2 trailer CONTRIBUTING: Kelly Lawler, USA TODAY

'I lead a wondrous new TV period drama – it's a blessing'
'Seeing your face on billboards, in a trailer… it's crazy. I'm just grateful.' Three years ago, just a year after graduating from drama school, Ernest Kingsley Jr was cast as the lead in Washington Black, a period drama brimming with heart and adventure. The high-octane TV series, which also stars This Is Us and Paradise actor Sterling K Brown, has finally launched on Disney Plus today, and the titular star admits to Metro that the whole experience up to this point has been 'surreal'. 'When they told me I got the job, it was in a meeting like this, all over Zoom,' Ernest says on our video call, explaining that a global search was conducted to find the actor who would play the protagonist, George Washington 'Wash' Black. Sterling, who's also an executive producer on the show, showered the up-and-coming actor with 'lovely words and kind-hearted support' when the decision was announced. 'I just felt really overwhelmed. Surreal is the best word I can use,' Ernest adds. Having previously starred in Netflix's The Sandman and the recent TV adaptation of War of the Worlds, Washington Black – based on the book of the same name by Esi Edugyan – marks his first time in a lead role. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Set in the 19th century, the drama flits between scenes from Wash's childhood, where he's played by Eddie Karanja, and the character's present-day adult life. Growing up on a sugar plantation in Barbados, it's apparent from a young age that Wash is a child prodigy with a keen scientific mind. His genius is recognised by a man called Christopher 'Titch' Wilde (Tom Ellis), who takes Wash on a globe-trotting adventure when a distressing incident forces them to flee. As an adult in Nova Scotia, a man called Medwin Harris (Sterling) acts as a mentor towards Wash, and that close relationship also carried across between the actors off-screen. While working with Sterling was an 'absolute gift', Ernest reveals that his first day filming with the acting legend was particularly daunting, given they had to have a bit of a physical tussle. 'We had a scene where he had to kind of rough me up a bit, and he did, much to my shock. I was just there like, 'Oh gosh, okay, this is go time,'' he remembers light-heartedly. 'He just has an essence that lifts you up, his spirit lifts your spirit. To have someone like that as a workmate, but also as a mentor, a brother, a friend. It was a complete gift and a blessing.' During a joint appearance on BBC's The One Show, Sterling went so far as to say that he believes Ernest is on the verge of becoming a 'household name'. One can only imagine how it must have felt to receive a compliment as extraordinary as that. '[Sterling] strikes me as someone who's a man of his word. He doesn't like to say things wishy-washy. He says things that he believes in and he acts upon it,' Ernest remarks. 'So to hear him say these words, especially, 'household name', it's just crazy. I can only hug him and hug him again, and then hug him again.' As the actor describes it, Washington Black is a 'wondrous' adventure, an odyssey of the fictional character's life that has even inspired him to do more solo travelling in the future. However, he wasn't the only actor to experience Wash's inspiring journey first-hand, as the brilliantly talented Eddie was cast as the younger version of the lead. 'We got to spend so much time with each other. Me and him, we spent so much time playing chess together. He's amazing at chess,' Ernest remembers fondly. 'We had multiple moments to meet up with the directors, to hash out what kind of things we wanted to keep the same, little mannerisms. I think what came out of it was the essence. 'How do I keep the essence of innocence and vulnerability and joy that Eddie brought to the character so beautifully? I found some moments to watch him on set as well when I wasn't working, to learn from him and see what I could keep.' So, who beat who more at chess? 'I'm gonna say me. Somebody could say otherwise, but I'm the only one here right now,' Ernest replies mischievously. We'll have to take his word for it. Now the lead of his own TV show, after booking and filming his role as Kai'ckul in The Sandman when he was still in drama school, the future is looking bright for Ernest. More Trending He's written and produced a short film titled A Love Story, which follows 'an insecure teenager who thinks he's falling in love with his best friend, but his feelings snowball into something more dark and destructive'. Nonetheless, acting is still very much at the forefront of his mind as he progresses in his career. 'I truly just want to be a part of projects and roles that I enjoy, that I'm passionate about. Washington Black was a dream role. In terms of the hero's journey and getting to travel and just go through an adventure, that aspect of any world was a dream for me,' he shares. Neil Gaiman allegations explained as Netfflix launches Sandman season 2 part 2
Part two of the long-awaited second season of The Sandman, adapted from Neil Gaiman's beloved comic book series, is finally dropping on Netflix. The streaming service has already confirmed that this will be the last we see of Dream (Tom Sturridge), in an announcement that came in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations levied against Gaiman, who co-developed the show from his comics. The second season focuses on Dream and his epic final journey as he looks to rebuild his kingdom. But the show has been dogged by the accusations against Gaiman, which sent shockwaves through his fanbase earlier this year. The first six episodes dropped on July 3, with the second five arriving tomorrow. Ahead of the season, Netflix released a teaser trailer for The Sandman season two, which did not mention Gaiman by name. The showrunner, Allan Heinberg, notably also did not mention Gaiman or the allegations when he shared a statement about the show's conclusion. A number of projects involving Gaiman across film and TV have either been paused or cancelled altogether – including Good Omens on Prime Video, which is now ending in a feature-length episode without Gaiman's involvement. The allegations against Gaiman were first made in 2024, when a Tortoise Media podcast series detailed the claims of five women, two of whom accused Gaiman of sexual assault. Then, further allegations were made against Gaiman in a report in New York Magazine in January, which spoke to eight women, four of whom were also involved in the Tortoise podcast. The alleged behaviour included assault, abuse and coercion. Gaiman's accusers are adults, all of whom are younger than the 64-year-old author, including one who is nearly 40 years his junior. One of these women, Scarlett Pavlovich, said she was 22 when she first met Gaiman's ex-wife and punk cabaret musician Amanda Palmer in New Zealand and started to babysit the couple's child. It was during this time that she claims Gaiman repeatedly assaulted her, including one instance in which she claims he did so while his son was in the room. Pavlovich has since filed a civil lawsuit in Massachusetts against Gaiman and his estranged wife, Palmer, accusing Gaiman of repeatedly sexually assaulting her while she was working as the couple's nanny. The lawsuit reportedly accuses Gaiman of rape, coercion and human trafficking. Palmer is accused of 'procuring and presenting' her to Gaiman 'for such abuse', according to The Guardian. She is seeking at least seven million dollars (£5.6 million) in damages. Gaiman has strenuously denied the allegations. 'I'm far from a perfect person, but I have never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with anyone. Ever,' he wrote in a statement shared on his website in January. 'Some of the horrible stories now being told simply never happened, while others have been so distorted from what actually took place that they bear no relationship to reality,' the statement continued. 'I am prepared to take responsibility for any missteps I made. I'm not willing to turn my back on the truth, and I can't accept being described as someone I am not, and cannot and will not admit to doing things I didn't do.' After the New York magazine article, a representative for Palmer said she was 'profoundly disturbed' by the allegations. The musician wrote on social media: 'As there are ongoing custody and divorce proceedings, I am not able to offer public comment. Please understand that I am first and foremost a parent. I ask for privacy at this time.' When the show's executive producer, David Goyer, spoke about the second season, he emphasised he personally 'never glimpsed any of this', referring to the allegations. He told Variety: 'When the accusations first came out, I think we were three weeks from finishing filming Season 2 — so we were very, very far down the path.' He went on to say that Gaiman 'wasn't as involved in season two as he was in season one'. He continued: 'Obviously, it's complicated. I have tremendous respect for women that come forward in those situations. It's really concerning, but I know that Netflix, at the time, felt, 'God, we spent two years making this thing. There's all these actors and writers and directors involved that, if we didn't air it, wouldn't be fully compensated for it.' 'So we just decided, we're going to let this work speak for itself. But I'd be crazy to say it wasn't weird.' The first season of The Sandman arrived in 2022, but it has taken years to get the second instalment onto the streaming platform. The announcement that the second season would be The Sandman's last came in January, shortly after the sexual misconduct allegations were levied against Gaiman. However, Variety reported that the Netflix powers that be had decided the second season would be the last prior to filming in 2023 – before the accusations in the Tortoise Media podcast in 2024. This was something executive producer Goyer also reiterated to the publication, saying the ending was planned over two years ago now. 'We had a lot of discussions, Allan [Heinberg, showrunner] and I, with Netflix. And obviously we love the books, but one of the concerns about some of the story arcs is that Dream isn't in them very much,' he said. 'And the other thing was, even though the original comic book run was 75 issues, we just ended up burning through story faster than we thought we would.' More Trending 'When we talked through it, we felt, let's make a slightly bigger season 2 and take it through to the end. There's always the possibility that we could do some of the other spinoff material, if you will,' Goyer said. Metro contacted Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer's representatives for further comment.
