Why the Tiffany blue Patek Philippe watch wound up so many rich people
Tiffany salespeople called them the 'watch monsters'. The obsessives. The wealthy shoppers who were sure they should be among the chosen few to get their hands on a rare timepiece from Patek Philippe. They descended on Tiffany & Co. a few years ago, when the retailer began offering a limited-edition Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711 with a dial in Tiffany's signature robin's-egg blue. Patek crafted 170 of them, a tribute to the number of years the brands had worked together. Tiffany hoped that the timepiece would help attract and retain high-end shoppers who were not already regular customers. Yet the Blue Dial, as it became known, was never for sale in the traditional sense. Demand was so high that Tiffany executives, including Americas head Christopher Kilaniotis, realised clients would be willing to spend millions of dollars on other jewellery for the chance to buy the coveted watch, which was priced at US$52,635. Salespeople were instructed to guide top prospects toward spending US$2 million to US$3 million, according to people familiar with the sales strategy. No official wait-list. No guarantees. Only 170 of the 'Blue Dials' were made. Photo: Tiffany & Co. When the Blue Dial arrived, wealthy shoppers' desire for luxury watches was in overdrive amid a pandemic-era buying frenzy. It instantly became one of the most talked-about objects in the luxury world.

I ran the lives of the Obamas for two years
T he moment Donald Trump arrived to take occupancy of the White House was, of course, marked as he meant to go on by a bit of protocol-defying trouble. One hand — unseen behind the front door — was there to fix it. For days the White House had rehearsed the mechanics of how Donald and Melania Trump would ascend the North Portico steps to greet Barack and Michelle Obama, the outgoing president and first lady of the United States. No gifts, then handshakes, then photographs. Deesha Dyer was in her last hours as the White House social secretary for the Obamas in January 2017, hiding herself in a fold of curtain at the front window to supervise this crucial encounter. As soon as she spied Melania appearing out of the car with an enormous turquoise Tiffany & Co box, 'I was so mad … so mad,' Dyer writes in her new memoir, Undiplomatic. 'I'd confirmed with the Trump advance team there would be no gift exchange.'

Dua Lipa Shows Off The Perfect Mediterranean Summer Lookbook
The certified queen of vacationing is at it again. Following the wrap of the UK leg of her Radical Optimism tour, Dua Lipa has been globe-trotting once again – this time across Italy and Spain with her fiancé and friends. As always, her Instagram serves as the most picturesque holiday mood-board, particularly when it comes to the singer's vacation style. From bold prints and sparkle to romantic flair, the tastemaker has perfected beachside glamour which captivates yet never strays too far from effortless. Last week, the singer started off her vacation in Italy with fiancé Callum Turner. On Instagram she shared snaps in a black and white polka dot bikini from Australian label With Jéan. The teensy two piece featured lace detailing, which softened this season's go-to print while adding a retro touch. A pair of cat-eye sunnies rounded off the timeless look. A few days later, on July 4, the singer shared more vacation shots, this time from Mallorca, Spain. Perhaps taking inspiration from the city's nightlife, this time Lipa opted for a striking silver and black studded Hunza G micro bikini. The shimmery set was styled with a sheer Christopher Esber skirt, also featuring rhinestone detailing. Fear not, because the glamour did not stop there. The 'Levitating' singer accessorised with silver Tiffany & Co cuffs on both arms, as well as two silver necklaces. She continued with gleaming silver rings, most notably a $28,000 USD Bvlgari Serpenti Viper ring and of course, her stunning engagement ring. Continuing with her Mediterranean lookbook, the singer called in another of this season's sartorial trends, this time doubling down on leopard print for a day in the water and posing by limestone walls. Bold and oh so fun, the itty-bitty and sparkly leopard print top was paired with high-waisted denim shorts, as well as a leopard print belt. The singer kept on the Tiffany cuffs and necklaces from her previous look and added on a metallic quilted Chanel bag. Perfect for a day out exploring the city. Now, daytime beachside looks weren't all the inspiration being served. On Sunday the singer shared a night-out look which perfectly toed the line between risqué and elegant. On her Instagram, she showed off a black lace halter-neck gown with a slight train, paired with a visible black thong underneath. Lipa kept accessories simple this time around, allowing the striking yet minimal look to shine. With the style winning-streak she has going, we can't wait to see what looks the singer has in store for us next!
