Wapda chairman reviews work on Dasu hydropower project
During his day-long visit, the chairman reviewed construction progress on key sites, which included River Diversion System, Main Dam, Power House and relocated Karakoram Highway (KKH-1).
The project team, comprising GM/PD Dasu Hydropower Project, the consultants and the contractors, briefed the chairman about site-wise targets and achievements.
It was briefed that construction activities on 20 work fronts are progressing at a good pace. Several critical targets have recently been completed, while a number of milestones are about to be achieved. As per the details, excavation of right and left abutment of the Main Dam has been completed.
Likewise, extended right bypass tunnel and right-side open channel are also ready for operation to pass excess water during the high flow season.
After completion of the upstream and downstream starter (coffer) dams, excavation of the Main Dam's foundation is in progress and will be completed in August 2025. Yet another critical activity of placing Roller Compact Concrete (RCC) in the Main Dam is likely to be started by December this year.
Excavation of the Power House will be completed in January 2026, while 25 Km-long KKH-1 with seven tunnels and three bridges will also be completed in February 2026. Electricity generation from the Project is scheduled in 2027.
Speaking on the occasion, the chairman urged upon the consultants and the contractors to expedite their efforts for completion of the project as per the timelines.
In second leg of the visit, the chairman participated in a Jirga with local elders. Detailed deliberations were made on payment issues under Enhanced Self-Managed Relocation (ESMR) Package and implementation of Local Area Development Schemes (LADS).
The chairman said that the Wapda stands committed for socio-economic development of the people hailing from the Project area. He added the Wapda is spending hefty amount on resettlement of the locals, environmental management and social development in the Project area. He directed the project management to keep close liaison with the locals to address grievances.
It is important to note that the 4320 MW-Dasu Hydropower Project is planned to be completed in two stages. At present, the Wapda is constructing stage-I of 2160 MW and annual energy generation of 12 billion units of clean, green and affordable electricity.

Aga Khan meets French President Macron
PARIS, FRANCE: His Highness the Aga Khan Friday began an official visit to France at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron. The Aga Khan's visit is the first in a series that will take him to countries in which the Ismaili Muslim community resides, following his accession to the Ismaili Imamat earlier this year. His Highness was received at the Élysée Palace by President Macron for luncheon and private discussions. The agreement recognises the presence of the Ismaili Imamat in France, including through official representation between the two parties and a joint coordinating committee. France and the Ismaili Imamat signed a declaration confirming their intention to cooperate for the successful and peaceful transition in Syria, protection of human dignity, rebuilding resilience, and resettling displaced people. Cooperation will include responses to the urgent need for humanitarian assistance and investments in the foundation for the sustainable, long-term development of the country, including rebuilding the economy through agricultural support and entrepreneurship; reinforcing the healthcare system; and providing cultural support to create employment and catalyse economic growth. Declaration of Intent to Cooperate in the Indian Ocean Region. France and the Ismaili Imamat signed a declaration of their intention to cooperate on the regeneration of coastal zones and marine ecosystems in the Indian Ocean region. PHC de-notifies all company benches
PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court has issued a notification de-notifying all Company Benches previously constituted at all benches of the Court. According to the notification No. 244-3, dated July 4, 2025, the Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court has exercised powers under Sub-Section 4 of Section 5 of the Companies Act, 2017 to implement the change. All matters falling under the Companies Act, 2017 pertaining to the whole province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa shall be dealt with by the Honourable Company Bench at the Principal Seat of the Peshawar High Court, said the notification. Muharram processions: Punjab govt hailed for holding exemplary arrangements
LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari met with license holders of Muharram processions and members of the Peace Committee. During the meeting, the delegates expressed deep appreciation for the exemplary arrangements made by the Punjab government for the mourning processions and majalis of Muharram. The Shia religious scholars extended their heartfelt thanks and complete confidence in Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's supervision of the arrangements. A delegation from the Shia Ulema Council Punjab also presented the 'Imam Hussain Award' to Minister Azma Bokhari as a tribute to the outstanding administrative performance of the government during the holy month.
