Opposition slams DMK for Edappadi Palaniswami's caricature over Keeladi silence
advertisementThe caricature appears to have been shared in the context of the ongoing political row over the Keeladi excavations, where the DMK has accused the BJP of undermining Tamil history, a stand the AIADMK, as BJP ally, is seen as not opposing strongly.
AIADMK spokesperson Singai Ramachandran condemned the DMK's post and criticised Tamil Nadu Minister TRB Raja, who oversees the party's IT Wing. 'TRB Raja should be ashamed to share such an indecent picture of the Opposition Leader,' Ramachandran said. 'Don't you have any respect? Would you accept such a post if it featured your father or Chief Minister Stalin?'He added that the AIADMK is not scared of the DMK's digital team, but urged them to 'maintain decency'. Warning of consequences, Ramachandran said, 'Stop this or be ready to face the consequences. If TRB Raja has the guts, let him meet us on stage and debate us with opinions, not likes.'The DMK's official page had put out a post asking why Palaniswami was silent on the issue. 'Open your mouth and speak, Palaniswami,' the post said, claiming that even as scientific studies confirm Keeladi's antiquity, the BJP is trying to erase Tamil history. 'Or is it because he fears his master will dust off old cases?'Must Watch

BJP seeks resignation of Congress MLA over alleged caste cert fraud
1 2 3 Jaipur: The BJP Friday demanded the immediate resignation of Congress MLA from Keshoraipatan (Bundi), CL Premi Bairwa, following allegations that he secured a forged Scheduled Caste (SC) certificate to contest the 2023 Assembly elections. As per allegations, Bairwa—originally from a general category—allegedly obtained a fake caste certificate to contest from the SC-reserved Keshoraipatan seat in Bundi district. BJP spokesperson Laxmikant Bhardwaj said the party took note of the issue and would scrutinise the documents thoroughly. "This case exposes how shamelessly the Congress can stoop to win elections. Premi Bairwa became MLA twice—in 2008 and 2023—using fake documents," Bhardwaj alleged. "Though this may not yet be a criminal case, the govt must immediately revoke all benefits and perks he enjoyed during his tenure. " Former Keshoraipatan BJP MLA Chandrakanta Meghwal, one of the complainants, said documents were submitted to additional chief secretary Aparna Arora, who heads the social justice & empowerment and panchayati raj departments Friday. "We submitted documents including Bairwa's date of birth, election affidavits, family history, and caste references," Meghwal told TOI. "Bairwa belongs to a family historically associated with the erstwhile Tonk royal family and carries the title 'Kabari'. His father was never listed as SC in official records, and none of his documents identify him as Scheduled Caste. A probe into his family background will reveal more shocking facts. "

Drop SIR: Stalin to Centre
Chennai: Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin has demanded that the Union govt drop the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, comparing the exercise to 'playing with fire'. In a social media post on Friday, Stalin said the SIR was being misused to erase voters from disadvantaged and dissenting communities, so that the outcome could be tilted in favour of the BJP . "This is not about reform. It is about engineering outcomes," he said. He said what had happened in Bihar during the SIR was a telling example of the potential threat posed by the exercise. That is why it is trying to stop them from voting altogether," he said. "If you (BJP) cannot defeat us, you seek to delete us. Don't play with fire. Any threat to our democracy will be met with firm resistance," he added. Stalin said that TN will raise its voice against SIR with full force. "Democracy belongs to the people. It will not be stolen," Stalin said in the post with the tag 'Quit SIR.' Meanwhile, CPM state secretary P Shanmugam has written to chief electoral officer Archana Patnaik asking her to convene an all-party meeting to discuss SIR. Stating that there are reports about preparatory work for commencing SIR in TN too, Shanmugam said the Election Commission of India should listen to views of political parties and then proceed with electoral roll revision.
