Cong dharna on May 26 to demand Sarna Code

Time of India15-05-2025

Ranchi: The state unit of the
Congress party
will stage a daylong dharna outside Raj Bhavan on May 26 to press for
Sarna Code
, it announced on Thursday.
K Raju, the party's in-charge for
Jharkhand
affairs, along with state party president Keshav Mahto Kamlesh, said Sarna code will give the
tribal communities
of Jharkhand a separate religious identity.
"The Union govt must include a column for the Sarna religion in the upcoming census. We will continue to fight for this until the Sarna code is granted," Raju said while addressing the media here.
Ahead of the proposed nationwide
caste census
, the Grand Old party has been demanding the Narendra Modi govt at the Centre to include a separate column for Sarna code and is accusing it of deliberately ignoring the long-standing demands of the tribals.
Kamlesh mentioned that on November 11, 2020, the coalition govt led by Hemant Soren had convened a special session and passed a proposal for the Sarna code, which was sent to the central govt, but no action has been taken yet.
"In the upcoming census, one more column has been reduced. Previously there were seven columns, now it has been reduced to six. Every religion has its own code, so the tribals should also have theirs too," he said.
Congress legislative party leader Pradeep Yadav on the other hand said that Modi govt has buckled under the press put by Congress and finally decided to conduct a caste-based census.

Will contest polls ‘for Bihar', says Chirag

1 2 Patna: Union minister Chirag Paswan on Sunday said he would contest the upcoming assembly elections "not in Bihar, but for Bihar," brushing aside what he described as attempts by jittery opponents to block his political path. Addressing a rally titled 'Bahujan Bhim Sankalp Samagam' at Rajgir in Nalanda, CM Nitish Kumar 's home district, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president appealed to the public to remain vigilant against what he called a "false narrative" being peddled by the opposition INDIA bloc. Paswan accused the alliance of misleading the public by claiming the Constitution and reservation would be in danger if PM Narendra Modi returned to power. "They tried the same scare tactics in the Lok Sabha election, but people didn't believe them and stood with PM Modi," he said. Taking aim at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Union food processing minister said, "These days, Rahul roams around waving the red book of the Constitution. But when will he apologise for the Emergency imposed by his grandmother Indira Gandhi, which was the real murder of the Constitution?" He added that those supporting the INDIA bloc were once victims of the Emergency. "Back then, some of them went to jail under Indira Gandhi's regime. Today they are aligning with the same Congress party. Jayaprakash ji gave the slogan of Sampoorna Kranti to overthrow the Congress. Lalu was with him then. Now he stands with the Congress that insulted JP," Paswan said. The Hajipur MP also hit out at RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, mocking his promise to bring change in 20 months if elected. "He should first return the land he got in exchange for jobs during his father Lalu Prasad's tenure as railway minister," he said. Paswan recalled his 2020 slogan 'Bihar First, Bihari First' and said it had caused discomfort to many back then. "Now that I'm returning to Bihar, their discomfort has only grown. Every drop of my blood is for Bihar. As long as Chirag Paswan is alive, there is no threat to the Constitution or to reservation," he said, urging voters to re-elect the NDA in Bihar.

Delhi Confidential: Silence to surprise

At a recent meeting with Congress leaders from tribal communities, Rahul Gandhi asked them about their 'main issue'. As the leaders fell silent, Gandhi is learnt to have said that he would answer the question himself. He said the 'biggest issue' for such Congress leaders is that they are not given much importance within the party. Surprised, many leaders nodded in agreement. Office Office Although the Union government has long been planning to relocate the Ministry of Rural Development, among several others, to the Common Central Secretariat (CCS) at Kartavya Path, officials have still been upgrading their current offices at Krishi Bhawan. The latest instance is that of an official of the ministry whose room was renovated a few weeks ago. Meanwhile, the ministry has been allotted space on the ground floor of CCS building no. 3 and will likely shift by August 15. Request Denied A senior AGMUT-cadre IPS officer was recently transferred from Delhi to Lakshadweep. As he was overseeing a special police project, the officer requested his transfer be withheld at least until March 2026. Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora forwarded his representation to the Union Home Ministry, and, in an unusual move, also attached his own letter echoing the request. The Home Ministry turned down the request this month.

Coming polls will shape Bihar future, says Chirag Paswan at rally

Union Minister for Food Processing Industries and LJP (RV) chief Chirag Paswan on Sunday said that the 2025 Bihar elections will decide 'our political future for coming five years'. He was addressing a gathering at a rally titled 'Bahujan Bhim Sankalp Samagam' at Rajgir in CM Nitish Kumar's home district Nalanda on Sunday. Chirag also reiterated his desire to contest the Assembly elections. 'Many people are jittery that I want to come to Bihar. They are trying to know whether I will be contesting elections here. I wish to tell them, I want to contest Assembly polls for the sake of Bihar. So that my dream of 'Bihar First, Bihari First' is realised,' he said while assuring the gathering that no one could dare to do away with reservation until he was there. Chirag hit out at Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, asking him to apologise for the Emergency. He questioned RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav how he could side with the perpetrators of Emergency during which his father Lalu Prasad was ill-treated. This was Chirag's second big rally in the state after the one held in Arrah on June 8 in the election year. Chirag hailed the turnout, saying: 'The kind of enthusiasm and support you have shown makes it clear that we are going to realise our goals of 'Bihar First, Bihari First'. Upcoming Assembly polls are very important for us as it will decide our future for the coming five years.' He refrained from speaking on Bihar CM Nitish Kumar or his government. Chirag remembered Dalit icon Dr B R Ambedkar for his contribution and hit out at the Congress for muzzling the Constitution. 'I am amused to see Rahul Gandhi displaying the Constitution. A leader whose party had imposed Emergency by tampering with the basic structure of the Constitution is talking about the Constitution now. He should rather apologise for Emergency. I also want to tell Tejashwi Yadav to seek an apology from Rahul Gandhi for the ill-treatment meted out to his father Lalu Prasad,' Chirag said.
