Five enterprises named state winners of Shell LiveWire Malaysia 2025

KUALA LUMPUR: Shell has recognised five enterprises as state winners in the Peninsular Malaysia edition of its Shell LiveWire Malaysia programme.
This year's winners are Earnest Grower Sdn Bhd, Lorry System Sdn Bhd, Mensilin Green Energy Sdn Bhd, Midwest Composites Sdn Bhd and Rebooz Technology Sdn Bhd.
Shell said the participants began their journey with an intensive bootcamp aimed at strengthening their entrepreneurial capabilities.
Ten promising finalists were shortlisted for the final pitching round, where they presented compelling business plans and demonstrated strong potential for innovation and growth.
Each of the five winning enterprises received a RM10,000 startup grant from Shell, along with a year-long business coaching programme to support their strategic development and business expansion.
The winners also gain access to the global LiveWire network, an international community of entrepreneurs where they can exchange ideas, share experiences and potentially be shortlisted for the prestigious Shell Global Top Ten Innovators Awards.
Shell general manager of business operations for Kuala Lumpur Syed Hussain Taha said witnessing the passion and determination of local talents has reinforced his belief in the positive impact of the initiative.
He said it enables individuals to build sustainable businesses that not only drive their own growth, but also benefit communities and create valuable employment opportunities.
"I personally encourage all budding entrepreneurs to take part in this programme, which offers the guidance, tools, and support needed to turn dreams into reality," he added.
Shell LiveWire is Shell's flagship programme for enterprise development, designed to boost local economies worldwide by encouraging entrepreneurship and nurturing emerging business leaders.
Launched in Sabah in 2015, followed by Sarawak in 2016 and Peninsular Malaysia in 2022, the programme aims to inspire young entrepreneurs to develop innovative, practical business solutions that address current socio-economic challenges.

DEVELOPER Tropicana Corporation Bhd unveiled Phase 3 of its latest project on Langkawi island in Kedah, while celebrating the 100% uptake of the project's first and second phases. Tropicana Cenang consists of seafront serviced suites situated on a 2.14ha freehold land beside Pantai Cenang in Kuah. Its first and second phases, Assana and Merissa, were topped off on July 17 and are set to be completed in 2026, according to Tropicana. 'Assana (40 storeys) and Merissa (six storeys) serviced suites offer 831 units (381sq ft to 1,310sq ft) and 60 units (1,066sq ft to 1,303sq ft duplex) respectively. 'Being fully furnished, the units are designed to elevate everyday living while embracing the spirit of connectivity, leisure and convenience with resort-style amenities and concierge services,' the developer said in the media statement. Clarissa, Tropicana Cenang's third and final phase, was launched after Assana and Merissa's topping-off ceremony. 'At 40 storeys, Clarissa consists of 806 fully furnished serviced suites and seven beachwalk shops. The Clarissa units range from 536sq ft to 1,356sq ft. It is also equipped with various facilities such as a rooftop restaurant and viewing deck. Clarissa's show unit is now available for viewing at the Tropicana Cenang & Tropicana Lagoon Property Gallery in Jalan Pantai Chenang, Langkawi. The developer has pledged to donate to charity RM200 for every Clarissa unit sold. This is under its Cenang corporate social responsibility programme. 'We look forward to donating RM160,000 paid over three years to selected beneficiaries in the local community, including underprivileged families, primary and secondary schools, medical assistance and elderly care,' the statement said. It added that Tropicana Cenang would be the tallest building in Langkawi. Present at the topping-off ceremony were Tropicana chief executive officer Ong Chou Wen, managing director (marketing, sales and business development) Ixora Ang, project managing director Allan Wong, executive director (sales and marketing) Jenny Low and Langkawi senior chief assistant district officer Zulkifli Abdullah. Wong said Tropicana Cenang, introduced in 2020, was the first integrated green building development in Langkawi. 'Tropicana has expanded its foothold in Langkawi for more than a decade. 'The island's rich geological history dates back half-a-billion years. 'Langkawi is also widely known for its duty-free status and cultural heritage. 'We have engaged with various stakeholders over the years to show our support to the community, with infrastructure enhancement and charity initiatives,' he added. Zulkifli said Tropicana Cenang could boost Langkawi's tourism. 'We hope that with Tropicana's presence and support, we can bring Langkawi's tourism to greater heights, cementing the island's position as a top destination for holidaymakers and retirees in Malaysia. 'This will also strengthen economic growth for the local community and the businesses in this region,' Zulkifli added.

Data Centre Investment Surges To RM144.4 Bln By March 2025 -- MITI

BUSINESS KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 (Bernama) -- From 2021 to March 31, 2025, Malaysia recorded 25 approved investment projects in the data centre sector, with a total investment value of RM144.4 billion. According to records from the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), MITI said these projects were approved under the Digital Ecosystem Acceleration Scheme (DESAC) and are expected to create high-skilled, high-income jobs. 'These investments are projected to generate 1,429 new jobs, with roles requiring specialised expertise such as engineers, data scientists, big data analysts, cybersecurity engineers, and information technology (IT) engineers. 'Over 50 per cent of these roles will be high-income jobs, offering salaries of more than RM5,000,' MITI said in a written reply published on Parliament's website today. The ministry was responding to a question from Aminolhuda Hassan (PH–Sri Gading), who asked MITI to detail job opportunities arising from the expanding data centre sector and the potential economic and labour market impacts. On that front, the ministry said it will carry out a survey to assess the economic spillover effects of the data centre industry. 'MITI has identified several key parameters for data collection across four main segments in the data centre ecosystem. 'These include data centre companies and operators; major tech firms and content providers; telecommunications and mobile network operators; and equipment suppliers and service providers within the data centre industry,' it said. In addition, MITI noted that several leading global tech companies have committed to creating around 67,000 direct and indirect jobs, mainly in the IT sector and related supply chains, once their projects are fully implemented.
