Colorado football lands commitment from top class of 2026 linebacker
Colton, a coveted four-star linebacker, immediately becomes the highest-rated recruit to commit to Sanders' class of 2026 cohort. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound defensive playmaker chose the Buffaloes over his other finalists, Florida State and Ole Miss.
The Newnan, Georgia, native visited Boulder on June 20, and the Buffs seemed like the favorites ever since. Colton also took official visits to Ole Miss, Florida State, Penn State, UCLA and SMU, which indicates the number of big-time programs in the running for his signature.
247Sports Composite ranks Colton as the No. 303 player in the nation, No. 21 linebacker and the No. 36 player from his home state of Georgia.
Colorado's class of 2026 now rises to nine commitments as Deion Sanders and staff continue a hot start to the month. Five commitments have joined the class since July 1, as it is now ranked No. 79 nationally. Colton is the program's second blue-chip recruit, with four-star cornerback Preston Ashley being the other.
Despite CU's class still ranking last in the Big 12, Colton's commitment, arguably the most significant of the current cycle, adds to the recruiting momentum that has been with the Buffs since late June.

Lane Kiffin: College or NFL, I think Nick Saban will be back
Nick Saban's Alabama tenure came to an end last offseason when the seven-time National Champion head coach elected to retire. But one of Saban's former assistants thinks the 73-year-old Saban will make his way back to a sideline at some point. Speaking to reporters at SEC Media Days on Monday, current Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin was asked if he would hire Saban if his former boss wanted back in the game. 'He's not going to need me to hire him,' Kiffin said, via Sam Hutchens of the Mississippi Clarion Ledger. 'I don't think he's done. I think he'll be back. Whether that's college or NFL, I think he'll be back.' Kiffin worked under Saban at Alabama from 2014-2016 as the program's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. The two won a National Championship together to cap the 2015 season. Saban was famously the Dolphins head coach from 2005-2006 before taking the Alabama job. His other NFL experience came as the Houston Oilers defensive backs coach from 1988-1898 and the Browns' defensive coordinator under Bill Belichick from 1991-1994. Kiffin was the Raiders coach from 2007-2008, lasting just four games into his second season before he was fired.

Teddy Bridgewater suspended from Miami Northwestern for allegedly giving impermissible benefits to his players
Former NFL quarterback-turned-high school football coach Teddy Bridgewater was suspended from Miami Northwestern after providing impermissible benefits to his players, he revealed in a Facebook post Sunday. Bridgewater confirmed the suspension, and said he was committed to staying with Miami Northwestern even though the team suspended him. "The suspension came from MNW and it's impossible to suspend someone who doesn't work for you. So if im suspended from MNW im free to go to another school of my choice but IM NOT GOING ANYWHERE. "And if it comes down to it, I will volunteer from the bleachers like I used to in 2018 and 2019 when no one had a problem." The suspension may stem from a post Bridgewater put on Facebook on July 7. In the post, Bridgewater revealed he covered Uber rides, meals and recovery services for his players last season. He asked fans to donate and cover those expenses this year so they wouldn't have to come directly from his pocket. Advertisement That apparently drew the attention of the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA). An official with the FHSAA, Kelvin Richardson, told Rivals those allegations were sent to Miami Northwestern and that the FHSAA are working to gain more information. The FHSAA has come down on other schools for similar violations, per Rivals. There is recent precedent for the FHSAA punishing programs for players receiving free meals and Uber rides. Last fall, several players at The First Academy were found to have received impermissible benefits, including a free Uber ride. The FHSAA hit the Royals with a two-year postseason ban and a $36,000 fine as a result. It's unclear whether Miami Northwestern will receive additional punishments following Bridgewater's suspension. Prior to coaching at Miami Northwestern — his alma mater — Bridgewater spent 10 seasons in the NFL. He originally joined the league as a first-round draft pick by the Minnesota Vikings. After making the Pro Bowl in his second season, Bridgewater sustained a dislocated knee and tore multiple ligaments during training camp. He returned in 2017, though he mostly spent time as a backup the rest of his career. Advertisement Following the 2023 NFL season, Bridgewater retired to coach Miami Northwestern. He led the team to a state championship in his first year, and then unretired from the NFL to join the Detroit Lions late last season. He served as Jared Goff's backup and did not appear in a regular-season game.
