Spartans land in bottom half of new preseason Big Ten power rankings
Where would you rank Michigan State among its peers in the Big Ten as we enter the 2025 season? Locked On College Football has an answer from their point of view.
Locked On College Football has released its preseason Big Ten power rankings, with the Spartans landing in the bottom half of the league. But, surprisingly higher than other news outlets rankings I've came across.
Michigan State came in at No. 12 in the preseason Big Ten power rankings from Locked On College Football. The Spartans are listed one spot behind Nebraska and one spot ahead of Wisconsin.
The Spartans come into this season looking to break a three-year bowl-less streak. Michigan State finished last year with a 5-7 record and is again projected to be around that record per win total over-under bets.
Michigan State kicks off the 2025 season on August 29 in a home matchup against Western Michigan. Kickoff from Spartan Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and will be televised on FS1.

Nebraska football hires recruiting coordinator away from Big Ten rival
Nebraska football hired former Michigan staffer Anthony Johnson. Johnson announced that he would be leaving his position as recruiting analyst at Michigan to join the Huskers as a recruiting coordinator. Johnson first joined the Wolverines in late May, after working six months at Pittsburgh. He spent only two months with the Wolverines. He was a defensive line coach for the program and also assisted with recruiting for the position. Advertisement The Nebraska football coaching staff consists of 21 coaches. Nine offensive coaches, six defensive coaches, three special-teams coaches, and five analysts/assistants. Johnson adds additional Big Ten experience to a staff that has shown quality both on and off the field. Recruiting has been a strong suit of this staff, and Johnson should be able to help the Huskers continue to recruit at a high level. It will be interesting to see if there are any further staff additions, with the season about a month and a half away. Former Aggie utility player rejoins Texas A&M after a record-breaking season at SEU
He's Back! In a surprising development, former Texas A&M utility player Travis Chestnut announced via social media that he will be transferring back to Texas A&M for his final season. Nobody saw this coming, but it's a welcome addition to a team that needs veteran leadership, especially from someone already familiar with the university and head coach Michael Earley. After the 2024 season, eligibility status remained unclear for several Aggies, most notably Evan Aschenbeck and Chestnut. The NCAA dragged its feet, prompting both players to pursue other opportunities: Aschenbeck signed a professional contract, while Chestnut accepted a Division II offer from St. Edward's University. During his time at SEU, Chestnut played in 60 games, batting .308 with 54 RBIs and 40 stolen bases. His 72 runs and 40 stolen bases set team records for the Hilltoppers. Chestnut's return to Aggieland brings speed to the basepaths and College World Series experience to a young, talented roster.
