Bacon is a breakfast staple, but many people get put off by the thought of the washing up after cooking it in a frying pan - an expert has shared a simple bacon cooking hack using a microwave
Crispy bacon is a beloved staple, whether in a classic bacon sandwich or on a full English. But the thought of scrubbing away at a grease-laden frying pan can put many off from rustling up this breakfast classic.

Enter Vered DeLeeuw, culinary whizz and founder of Healthy Recipes, who swears by a no-fuss, no-mess method for achieving perfect bacon – and it involves your microwave. She insists that this unconventional approach yields "better" results, promising beautifully crispy, evenly cooked rashers.

Vered confessed she was initially sceptical, doubting that microwaved bacon could ever rival its pan-fried or oven-baked counterparts.

However, she now champions it as "just as good, if not better".
She said: "The bacon cooks evenly and comes out perfectly crispy. And it's a fast method - faster and easier than any other."
Express.co.uk also tried this microwave method and was pleasantly surprised to find that the bacon had just the right level of crunch and tasted as though it had been fried.

So how do you cook bacon in the microwave?
Simply arrange your bacon slices on a microwave-safe plate lined with kitchen paper, ensuring the slices don't overlap.
Paper towels are essential in this bacon-cooking hack. The bottom layer absorbs a significant amount of fat, ensuring the bacon crisps up nicely, while the top layer prevents any messy splatters.

Simply cover the bacon strips with more paper towels and blast them on high in the microwave until they're crispy. Vered discovered that in her 1000W microwave, it took just four minutes to crisp up four slices of bacon.
It's wise to start checking the bacon after three minutes since bacon varieties and microwaves differ significantly. If necessary, you can always tack on an extra minute.

Exercise caution when retrieving the plate from the microwave – it'll be scorching hot. Either grasp the edges of the paper towels or don some oven mitts for safety.
Make sure to promptly detach the bacon from the paper towels to avoid sticking, and serve it straight away.

The blog's followers were quick to praise the method in the comments section. Carol enthused: "Easy as can be, crispy, flavorful."
Kevin was impressed and said: "This worked way better than I expected. The bacon came out very crispy, not burnt, and the clean up was so much easier."
Anette said: "Perfect for when I decide to upgrade my cheeseburger recipe at the last minute. The bacon comes out great."
Magda added: "A real game changer. I needed pieces of bacon to add to your delicious avocado chicken salad. So easy."

Powys health board may be charged for waiting time policy

Powys Teaching Health Board (PTHB) is facing further resistance from English health trusts over its policy of intentionally increasing wait times. The Wye Valley NHS Trust has confirmed that it may look to charge PTHB for the added costs of the controversial policy that was approved in March. This could potentially damage the benefits of the policy for PTHB which made the move to save around £16 million a year as it faces large budget deficits. The news comes after the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals (SaTH) Trust SaTH, confirmed it has so far not implemented the changes which would see waiting times for certain procedures double for Powys patients being treated in English Hospitals. The Wye Valley Trust told the County Times the policy could have knock-on effects to its emergency departments and has labelled the policy as 'poor value for money'. A spokesperson for the Wye Valley Trust said: 'We continue to work with the Powys Teaching Health Board (PTHB) and have outlined to PTHB the financial, operational and quality impacts of their intention to increase waiting times for routine elective patients. 'We have started to reduce activity for people who live in Wales with a Welsh GP practice who require an inpatient admission, as a direct result of the changes being implemented by Powys Teaching Health Board. 'We are concerned that patients who are having to wait longer to be seen due to this could increase attendances at our emergency department and within local primary care. 'Whilst recognising that PTHB need to manage within their budget, the administrative costs of enacting the policy, the increased costs of higher emergency activity, and the increased costs of catching up on this work in the future, make this plan, in our view, poor value for money. 'Patients are advised to please attend their appointment as normal. For patients currently on a waiting list, you will be contacted when your appointment is due.' "It is extremely concerning that accounts from the Wye Valley Trust seem to indicate that Powys has provided no detailed modelling on the impacts of these changes to hospitals in Herefordshire, alongside the concerns they have raised about the knock-on impact on emergency care,' said Mr Chadwick. "Given the Wye Valley Trust has also indicated it will be seeking to charge Powys for the administrative challenges and costs of implementing this new system, it isn't clear it would even be achieving its goal of cutting its budget deficit.

Davina McCall raves this collagen supplement makes ‘a noticeable change to skin and joints'

Davina McCall has been raving to fans this week about this best-selling collagen supplement, which the 57-year-old swears 'makes a noticeable difference to energy, skin and joints' Collagen has been proven to be a vital structural protein that supports the integrity, elasticity, and strength of the skin, hair, nails, joints, bones, and gut lining. Everyone's natural collagen levels gradually decrease with age, which can lead to less elasticity in the skin or less flexible joints over time. But, Davina McCall may have found the perfect supplement of hydrolysed collagen peptides that work to support the body's natural repair, replenish, and renewal processes, helping you to look and feel younger and healthier. The 57-year-old English TV presenter is a sworn fan and brand ambassador of Ancient + Brave, in particular their best-selling True Collagen Powder. Davina raved about the supplement, saying: "True Collagen is the only collagen I like, it's convenient, tasteless, and it works." She also enthuses, "I'm obsessed with True Collagen. When I take it, I feel the difference." And before you worry that you will need to have a celebrity-sized bank account to join Davina in enjoying the benefits of True Collagen, this supplement actually retails for the relatively affordable price of £25.60, which includes approximately 40 servings. This True Collagen powder is an easily digestible, highly absorbable, and clinically researched Type I hydrolysed bovine collagen peptides. Once easily absorbed through the gut, these peptides supply the building blocks for new collagen and can also stimulate collagen-producing cells, supporting the natural repair processes for new skin, hair, and nail cells. Collagen's whole-body benefits reflect its ripple effect as a multi-functional protein. Beyond beauty, enhancing skin, hair, and nails, it supports joints, bones, muscles, gut health, and even cognitive function, which is why it's such a game changer for those stepping into their thirties, forties, fifties, and beyond, as it can rejuvinate all facets of your everyday health. As Davina mentioned, the benefit of taking powdered collagen is that you can tailor the dose to best suit your age, health, and lifestyle. For regular maintenance, Ancient + Brave recommends taking 5–10 grams daily. To make adding this to your daily routine as simple as possible, the Ritual scoop measures 8 grams of True Collagen. To take, you simply add 1 ritual scoop or 1-2 heaped teaspoons to any drink of choice or stir into food. And that's it. But it isn't just Davina McCall who is obsessed with this supplement, which she raved on a recent Instagram Reel, makes "a noticeable difference to my energy, skin and joints". But other accolades come from 5-star reviewers singing this collagen powder's praises. One thrilled shopper says: "Amazing!!! I noticed a difference in my eyelashes and nails the first few weeks after starting this and I can't wait to see more results- already ordered my refill pouch! I have it in my morning cuppa everyday!" Further adoration comes from this buyer who beams: "After taking this in my morning cup of tea for a month, I can see and feel the difference. My skin is fresh and dewy, I feel less foggy - more alert and my bones and muscles feel less stiff after exercise. I highly recommend this top quality product from this amazing company which cares so much about the important things in life for great health." A third chimes in: "I am only 2 weeks in on True Collagen and have noticed a difference in my skin, really interested to see what benefits I see to nails and hair over the coming months." One shopper did share some disappointment, writing: "Great product and I've definitely noticed a difference with my skin, nails and hair growth. I would most certainly recommend. I was disappointed no scoop was provided to measure powder." However, the overall 4.8 out of 5-star rating, with over 2.5k reviews, shows that 2.2k customers bestow full marks.
