Caitlin Clark Makes Shocking Admission on Her Defensive Effort Following Win Against Wings originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Caitlin Clark, as always, remains under basketball's primary spotlight seemingly at all times. Whether it's a day off, or her Indiana Fever are playing a WNBA game, Clark's performance, comments, and even outfits always find a way into the day's headlines.

Sunday afternoon, it was her comments following the Fever's matchup with Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings that took center stage.
The Fever hosted the Wings, looking to get back over .500, entering the day with a record of 10-10 on the season. Clark and the Fever did just that, taking down the Wings 102-83 in a high scoring affair.
Despite Clark struggling offensively, again, shooting just 4-for-12 from the field, including 2-for-7 from 3-point range, her Fever scored over 100 points for the second time this season.
Following the win, however, Clark credited her own defense as one of the primary reasons for the team's victory on Sunday. In the process, Clark made a shocking admission, seeming to own up to the fact that she only plays strong defense when she "chooses to".

'I can be a really good defender when I choose to. When I work really hard on it and not conserve energy, so I was proud of myself in that regard and I think that probably motivates our offense when I bring a tenacity on the defensive end, I think it really helps our offense go," Clark said.
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) claps her hands in excitement Sunday, July 13, 2025, during the game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Wow! That's quite an admission to make publicly, as Clark's Fever teammate, Aliyah Boston can be seen holding back laughter as Clark made her comments.
While Clark is tied for sixth in the WNBA in steals per game (1.7), she isn't highly rated as a defender in the league. Clark ranks just No. 48 in the WNBA in defensive win shares (0.113).

Clark did add five steals and one block during her defensive efforts against the Wings, and as the primary defender on JJ Quinerly, she heled Quinerly to just 13 points in 24 minutes played.
Clark and the Fever will look to win their third consecutive game when they take on the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. EDT on ESPN.

Real Madrid star scoops Club World Cup Golden Boot award

Real Madrid youngster Gonzalo García has secured for himself a prestigious individual piece of silverware. This comes owing to his exploits at this summer's Club World Cup. The newly-formatted CWC was of course brought to a close on Sunday evening, as Chelsea beat out Paris Saint-Germain to lift the title. Advertisement The aforementioned Real Madrid managed to battle their way to the tournament's semi-finals, but were sent packing in comprehensive fashion by PSG. Youngster Gonzalo, meanwhile, enjoyed something of a breakout summer, on his way to four goals in six appearances in the USA. And as alluded to above, such exploits have proven enough to see the Spanish frontman crowned Club World Cup top scorer. Whilst four players (Serhou Guirassy, Marcos Leonardo, Ángel Di María) finished the competition with four goals to their name, Gonzalo also added an assist, enough to see him take home the Golden Boot award.
