Woman buys Harry Potter cards at charity shop but is bowled over by real worth

Daily Mirror2 days ago
A woman called Lola picked up some Harry Potter collectable cards at a charity shop, but she couldn't get over how much they were worth when she did her research at home
You never know what you're going to find when you go exploring, especially when it comes to looking around charity shops. After all, they're often full of so many weird and wonderful things, and sometimes you can really snap up an expected bargain when you least expect to find one.
This is exactly what happened to one woman recently when she visited a charity shop to have a look around. Lola, known as lola_amuah on TikTok, was taken by surprise when she found a tin full of Harry Potter collectable cards when she was shopping, and when she got them home she couldn't get over just how much they could be worth.

In a recent video, she revealed that she found some great finds during a recent trip. She spotted a patterned jug that she seemed to love, which came complete with matching glasses too.

She then came across a tin that was full of Harry Potter cards, which she decided to snap up. It sounded like she paid around £10 for them, and she thought they were "cool."
However, it wasn't until she got them home that she realised just how valuable they are. Lola explained: "When we got home, we realised that we had the entire collection of those cards.
"Every single one was in a plastic sleeve, and this is just one what one of them is on sale for on eBay." On the screen, she then revealed someone was flogging the single card for £245.42."

This meant that she could have cards worth thousands overall, though some may obviously vary in value. Lola couldn't believe her luck when she did her research.
One person replied, saying: "'You're a wizard Harry'. Those cards are so cool, and a great price." Another wrote: "Oh, tell us more about the cards."

A third added: "I used to collect those Harry Potter cards as a kid." Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: "Great finds."
When it comes to Harry Potter trading cards, they can vary widely in value. While some can be worth a few pounds, others can be worth hundreds or thousands - it all depends on how rare they are.
If they are signed, this may also pump up the value. None the less, Lola seems to have the potential to make a great profit on one card alone. Cards with limited print runs or unique features (like holofoil or autographs) are said to be more valuable.
Mint or near-mint condition cards will also bring in more money than those that are damaged or worn. If your cards feature any iconic characters or specific scenes from the books or movies, they may be more desirable to buyers.
Cards signed by the main actors (Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint) can also be super valuable, particularly if they have been kept in good condition. However, you need to bear the market demand in mind.
The price can also be influenced by the number of collectors and their willingness to pay a premium for certain cards. Doing a little research online will help you determine if your cards are worth anything.

Trolls said I was ‘greedy' after showing off my daughter's £350 Prada school shoes – but they actually save me money

Plus, more about how to get help with school uniform costs STEP TO THIS Trolls said I was 'greedy' after showing off my daughter's £350 Prada school shoes – but they actually save me money IN the world of parenting, every decision, from snacks to school runs, can feel like it's under a microscope - especially online. And for one mum, her choice of school shoes for her daughter sparked a debate, with trolls branding her "greedy." 1 The mum took to TikTok to share what shoes she bought her daughter Credit: TikTok/mumupnorth But as she reveals, there's a surprising, money-saving logic behind her luxury purchase. The mum, known on TikTok as @mumupnorth, recently shared a video that quickly went viral, showcasing her daughter's £350 Prada school shoes. However, the price tag immediately drew criticism, with many questioning if it was the correct thing to pay for as it's an item typically used for playground wear and tear. However, @mumupnorth was quick to hit back at the negativity, explaining the long-term thinking behind her investment. "My daughters £350 school shoes that broke the internet," she stated in her video, "she's had them for three years. I paid for quality shoes." She then directly compared her durable Prada purchase to more common, yet ultimately more expensive, alternatives. "Her friend must've had six pairs of Kickers in that time at £100s a pair," she highlighted. Her video has gained 913.1k views and 955 comments after two days of it being shared and there were mixed opinions. One wrote: 'Prada cups to school are greedy.' While a second added: 'You can afford expensive shoes, well done. 'Uniform, shoes, stationery - the lot!' Aston Merrygold's wife praises Primark as she nabs back-to-school haul for £47 'However a lot of families can barely afford school shoes from the likes of Asda and Tesco, let alone Clarks, Kickers, or in your case, Prada's. 'There's also the added cost of uniforms, especially secondary school, and the fact that kids' feet grow extremely fast and I'm constantly buying my son new shoes for that exact reason.' A third commented: 'I mean this Is what I want. If I pay more I want it to last forever. 'Not about names or logos. I'm a total minimalist. But I want it to be literally full of me.' And someone else said: 'Prada school shoes are the best!' £5 school uniforms A major supermarket chain across the UK has just unveiled an incredible school uniform bundle for an unbelievable £5, aiming to ease the financial strain of kitting out the kids for the new academic year. Available in stores from today, this fantastic bundle includes everything your child needs for a fresh start: two polo shirts, a sweatshirt, and your choice of either a pair of trousers, shorts, or a skirt. It's an all-in-one solution designed to make back-to-school shopping simple and affordable. For those needing individual items, the deals are just as impressive. You can pick up a comfortable sweatshirt for a mere £1.50, while trousers, shirts, skirts, or shorts are all priced at a budget-friendly £1.75 each during this sale. These prices significantly undercut many high street competitors, offering a much-needed lifeline for families facing the annual task of updating school wardrobes. This initiative is set to make a real difference, helping to ease the burden and ensure children are ready for school without parents having to break the bank.

Pregnant Olivia Culpo is mercilessly mocked over her excessive hospital bags

Pregnant Olivia Culpo has been mercilessly mocked online thanks to her excessive hospital bags. The model, 33, who is currently expecting her first child with husband Christian McCaffrey, took to TikTok earlier this week to share everything that she had packed to bring to the hospital with her when she gives birth. She confessed that she had filled up two enormous suitcases to the brim with stuff like an expensive robe, pillows, comforters, multiple outfits, and of course, a ton of hair and makeup products. And many viewers couldn't help but poke fun at how much stuff she was bringing. Olivia began the video, which got over 1.3 million views, by explaining that she had 'worked really hard' on picking the right items. She said she wanted to share what she chose to hopefully help other moms feel less 'overwhelmed' during the process. 'First time mom packing my hospital bag,' she said. 'I worked really hard on this, and I know how overwhelming the whole process is so I committed a while ago to making a video. 'I want to be a resource for people because I watched so many of these. And they're really interesting.' She explained that she had she packed 'two large suitcases,' one that had all her 'comfort stuff' and another filled with her 'essentials.' In the first, she explained that she had multiple pillows and blankets, including a twin-sized comforter. 'I am such a pillow snob so I knew I was going to need specific pillows,' she said. 'That's just a me thing. I don't know what the hospital pillows are like but I am not taking my chances. I need to get my beauty sleep, I'm gonna be a mom.' She also packed two sleep masks, two portable fans, a small light, some scented room sprays for 'aroma therapy,' a framed picture of her dog, Oliver, and a $184 Chasa robe. In addition, she brought two 'postpartum mom kits' from Frida Mom - 'one is for C-section and one is for vaginal birth' - and five fake candles. 'This is the most ridiculous thing, these are flameless, flickering candles,' she said of the latter. In the essentials bag, she had a nursing bra, nipple butter, a Boppy pillow for breast feeding, a Medela breast pump and Medela hydrogel pad, electrolytes, a lactation drink mix, and a water bottle. She also had a separate bag full of snacks, a professional camera and video recorder, headphones, chargers, and an extension chord. There was another bag that had all her makeup and hair products, which she said also included deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, and other hygiene 'basics' like that. In addition, the expecting mother packed six different outfits, slippers, slides, and shower shoes. Olivia explained that she also packed a small bag with baby stuff, which included three outfits, a notebook to document everything, a Barefoot Dreams blanket, swaddle, sound machine, placenta kit, and chord collection kit. 'A lot of this stuff is more luxury as opposed to essentials,' she reflected after she finished breaking everything down. 'I'm aware of that. 'I thought it would make my hospital stay more comfortable and I hope you guys find it useful. 'And if you didn't find any of this helpful and you think I'm ridiculous and that I overpacked - one, I slightly agree with you and two, you made it this far in the video, and I commend you for that.' Many viewers couldn't help but roast Olivia in the comment section. Many viewers couldn't help but roast Olivia in the comment section 'OLIVIA ARE YOU MOVING TO THE HOSPITAL?' one jokingly asked. 'Let me tell you, I didn't even open my hospital bag. I used everything the hospital provided,' shared another. 'I was in and out in 24 hours. Are you planning on staying a week?' someone else wrote. 'LOL are you camping in the hospital?' read a fourth comment. 'Is this is birthing vacation? I literally laughed out loud,' said a fifth. A different user penned, 'Omg are you kidding that is so much, you have to do another video and tell us what you actually used lol.' 'How long is she expecting to be there? Thats a lot of stuff,' someone else added. 'This is the best TikTok I've seen in months! I haven't laughed this hard in days! Please stitch this when you unpack,' another viewer commented. 'Holy moly… I had five kids and I don't think I brought that much stuff for all five births combined,' shared one shocked user. 'Times have changed since I had my baby in 2000. I rolled in that day with an outfit and blanket for the baby and left the next morning,' a different person wrote. In March, Olivia and Christian announced they were expecting their first child together and that Olivia was already six months pregnant. The couple, who have been dating since 2019 and tied the knot last summer in a lavish ceremony in Rhode Island, have yet to announce the gender of the baby.
