Man Utd dramatically slash £70m Alejandro Garnacho price tag and set reduced transfer fee

Daily Mirror22-07-2025
Alejandro Garnacho is one of several big names tipped to leave Manchester United and the club are prepared to take a massive financial hit just to get him out of Old Trafford
Manchester United have almost halved their demands for Alejandro Garnacho - and will now accepted £40million for the Argentine as he looks to leave the club this summer.

Garnacho's value on the market this time 12 months ago was thought to be around £70m, but his stock has fallen so low that Mirror Football understands United are willing to accept a £30m hit just to get the 21-year-old winger off their books.

The youngster was once seen as one of the club's future stars but his performances have dipped whilst he's also struggled to find a role that brings the best out of him in Ruben Amorim 's system, which has complicated matters.

Chelsea were previously linked with Garnacho, who scored 11 times last term, whilst Napoli too have been interested in the past. So far no bidders have been forthcoming but a massive drop in the Manchester club's demands may now see that change.
Garnacho angered major figures at Old Trafford once the season finished as he wore an Aston Villa shirt with Rashford's name on the back whilst on holiday with the image going viral on social media. That also came after his reaction to his Europa League snub did not impressed his manager.
The Argentine was named on the bench for the clash in Bilbao, which United lost. Garnacho arrived late to wam up on the pitch and was seen chatting with Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon. Hours before kick off he also share pictures of him scoring against local rivals Manchester City during the FA Cup final win on social media, with many drawing their own conclusions.
After the match the player said: "Up until the final I played every round helping the team, and today I play 20 minutes, I don't know. The final will influence [my decision] but the whole season, the situation of the club. I'm going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens afterwards."
Garnacho isn't the only player United will be prepared to lose millions on. Marcus Rashford is heading to Barcelona on loan with the Spanish club having the option to buy next summer. They can do so for £26m, despite the Red Devils telling Aston Villa just months ago the price was £40m.
Jadon Sancho was signed back in 2021 from Borussia Dortmund for just over £70m. He's since had two loan spells away and the Red Devils will let him leave permanently for £15m. Antony joined United for £86m in 2022, but his value has also plummeted, with interested clubs now being quoted around £30m to sign him.

The 34-year-old travelled set off at 3.30am from her home in Sheffield, picking up other fans on the way, to make today's trophy parade. She told Metro: 'I'm booked to get all of them on Friday, and have planned out the sketches. I just love football so much.' Members of both the 2022 and 2025 victory teams are set to make an appearance on Kayleigh's leg, including Mary Earps, Alessia Russo, Lucy Bronze, and Hannah Hampton. They will sit alongside the Three Lions badge and a picture of the Women's Euro 2022 trophy – with the 2025 date also set to be added underneath. 'I'm also saving space for the World Cup,' Kayleigh added. 'I just love all football, and the girls deserve to be remembered for what they have achieved.' Kayleigh, who is a trained UEFA coach, offered to give strangers a lift down to the celebration as she had room in her car. She drove to pick up Ellie Green in Salford, who managed to make it over to Switzerland for the final, with the pair becoming firm friends despite meeting for the first time today. Ellie said: 'We had never met before but all of a sudden had a four hour drive down together, but we were just chatting easily the whole way down.' Kayleigh added: 'All the Lioness fans are just like one family, I put the offer out there on a Facebook group because I had space in my car – everyone deserves to go if they are able.' The Lionesses enjoyed a homecoming celebration today following their historic triumph at Euro 2025. More Trending Nine-year-old Arlo Harris insisted he much prefers watching the women's team rather than the men's as the standard 'was just better'. His mum Sophie left their home in Plymouth with him at 4.30am to make sure they got a glimpse of the trophy. She said, while dancing with Arlo on her back: 'They are great role models for both boys and girls. 'There's such a sense of unity here. Sancho, Isak, Guehi - who should Liverpool target?

We asked for your views on who Liverpool should target to replace Luis Diaz. Here are some of your comments:AJ: They should target Jadon Sancho. Can get him for £20-25m and he'd jump at the chance. Most Manchester United fans probably don't care where he goes at this Excellent piece of business once again by Liverpool. Diaz, at 28 years old, wanted unrealistic wages and wouldn't budge so we sold at market rate. Rio Ngumoha should now be given his chance to compete with Cody Gakpo as he's been electric in pre-season and training. Our spending should now be on Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi. Retaining the league is a minimum but winning the Champions League should be our higher I think we should work with what we have - we should utilise Gakpo on the left but also really concentrate on Ngumoha as well. He could have a breakthrough season. Any more attackers and things may get a bit out of shape up front. We already have so much talent and firepower up front - we should really be concentrating what is happening at the defence and upgrading there. Ekitike can also drift to the left potentially. Then there is all the Isak talk but in reality we don't need to replace Diaz, our next signing really should be a Gakpo has already been an upgrade on the left during the past 12 months. In my opinion, there should be no need to replace him up Liverpool don't need Isak. He is injury-prone and the way Liverpool play, we need players who are injury averse. Yes he can score goals but we have that in abundance already. Let's concentrate on a defender or two.

Bryan Mbeumo relishing chance to play with Bruno Fernandes at Manchester United

Manchester United's new signing Bryan Mbeumo says he is excited about linking up with Bruno Fernandes after completing his move to Old Trafford. Cameroon winger Mbeumo, who scored 20 goals and provided seven assists for Brentford in the Premier League last season, signed a five-year contract last week to become United's third summer signing. Advertisement When asked on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast who he was most looking forward to playing alongside, Mbeumo told the former United defender: 'Of course, Bruno. Of course, yeah. Yeah, for a striker, you just enjoy that.' Mbeumo is hoping to nurture a chemistry on and off the training pitch with United's Portuguese talisman before the club launch the 2025-26 campaign at home against Arsenal on August 17. 'I think it's a little bit of everything. You earn experience from everyone. So it's always good to speak to someone like this,' Mbeumo said. Advertisement 'But at the end, I think on the pitch, when you're smart like he is, I think you don't even need to think a lot. You just need to make the run and he's going to play you in the right space every time. 'But of course, you can have a little discussion to make him know how I prefer the balls and how I'm feeling the best to have the ball. The wait is over. — Manchester United (@ManUtd) July 21, 2025 'But at a certain point, there is only one way, even if it's not the one you like, you have to do the run and he's going to put the ball in a good position.' Mbeumo's arrival at Old Trafford follows the signings of Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and Paraguay left-back Diego Leon, from Cerro Porteno. Advertisement United have recently been linked with Ollie Watkins – RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko is also a reported target – and Mbeumo described his former Brentford team-mate as the 'complete striker'. Mbeumo said of Watkins: 'I think he's really complete. He's like a complete striker. He can do a lot of things. 'He can drop with the set or going in behind. And I think this is really good for me or for a winger because you can use his space to fit in there. And he can combine as well. So, I think it's really good.'
