Auburn football among several SEC schools in tight race for four-star WR Jase Mathews
Auburn football remains in the mix to land a talented wide receiver from Mississippi ahead of his commitment date. Will they close the deal?
Jase Mathews, a four-star wide receiver from Leakesville, Mississippi, is in the final stages of making his college decision and has placed Auburn high on his radar. Auburn is in the mix to land him, alongside fellow SEC squads Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and LSU. He gave an insight into his commitment decision in a recent interview with Rivals.
'I am really close to making a decision,' Mathews said. 'It is something I am thinking a lot about. My commitment should come before the season starts. I don't have a date set yet, but I am getting close.'
The next two months will be stressful and exciting for Mathews as he weighs every option and programs look to create separation. How does Auburn stack up? Mathews says that his relationship with one assistant coach is keeping them in the running.
'It is the connection with coach (Marcus) Davis that stands out the most,' Mathews said.
Ole Miss is the frontrunner according to Rivals with a 35.7% chance to land him, with Auburn next in line with a 23.5% forecast. Hugh Freeze and the Tigers' coaching staff are working to land a wide receiver for its 2026 haul after losing Denairius Gray to Kentucky last week. Auburn currently holds the No. 86 recruiting class according to 247Sports' 2026 rankings, and a commitment from Mathews, who is the No. 3 receiver in the 2026 class according to On3, would do wonders for its recruiting morale.

Georgia is the frontrunner, with a 93.5% chance to land the prospect. Auburn is in second at 2.5%, followed by the Miami Hurricanes at 1.3%. Advertisement If Kirby Smart does earn a commitment from Green, it would not be the first time Georgia has hurt Auburn in recruiting. The Bulldogs already flipped longtime Auburn commit Shadarius Toodle in June. Georgia is not the only SEC team to steal a commit from Auburn, either. The Kentucky Wildcats flipped four-star receiver Denairius Gray from the Tigers on July 1. Auburn's 2026 class currently ranks 71st on On3 Sports and is highlighted by four-star edge rusher Hezekiah Harris, four-star athlete Peyton Falzone and three-star linebacker Adam Balougun-Ali.
