Man dies after suspected beating over motorcycle noise dispute in Tanah Merah, say police
TANAH MERAH, June 20 — A 60-year-old local man has been confirmed dead, believed to have been beaten in Kampung Buloh Ipoh, here, yesterday.
Tanah Merah district police chief, Supt Mohd Haki Hasbullah confirmed the incident and said further investigations were still underway and details of the incident would follow.
'The victim's body has been taken to Tanah Merah Hospital for a post-mortem,' he told Bernama today.
Meanwhile, a villager who only wanted to be known as Solah, 40, said the incident occurred following a fight between the victim and the suspect.
'Before the incident, I had a chance to chat with the victim because his house was right in front of mine. He looked normal and managed to reprimand several villagers.
'I only became aware of the incident when I saw the presence of many police officers and residents at the scene of the incident which was about 100 metres from his house,' he told Bernama at the scene of the incident.
According to him, he rushed to the location and was shocked to see the victim dead with facial injuries.
Solah also said the victim lived with his 78-year-old mother and has never caused any problems with villagers.
'I understand the incident stemmed from the victim's reprimand over the noise of the suspect's motorcycle. They were said to have a fight before the victim is believed to have been beaten with a stick,' he said. — Bernama

Zamzuri said the officers were conducting surveillance to prevent illegal street racing activities in Kuala Lumpur. He said Amirul had been serving with the department since completing his training and had been attached to the intelligence/operations division for over a year.

Police to probe scuffle between cop, protester at anti-graft rally

PETALING JAYA : Police are investigating a scuffle which broke out between a cop on duty and a protester at an anti-corruption rally attended by about 100 people in Kuala Lumpur earlier today. Dang Wangi police chief Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said one of the rally-goers had lit a flare at about 4.30pm, producing thick smoke which could have endangered participants, security personnel on duty and members of the public nearby. Because of this, policemen on duty took preventive action, he said. 'As this preventive action was being taken, a scuffle broke out between the rally-goer and a policeman, leaving the latter with minor injuries. The scuffle was broken up by other policemen. Three reports were later lodged over the incident,' he said in a statement. Sulizmie said the investigation was into the use of criminal force against a public servant, the letting off of fireworks, and insulting behaviour. Around 100 protesters gathered outside the Sogo shopping complex at about 2pm today before moving to Dataran Merdeka through Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. They urged Putrajaya to strengthen the legal system and reinforce the independence of anti-corruption institutions.

Federal CID chief to be transferred to border control agency
Shuhaily Zain will be replaced by M Kumar as CID director at Bukit Aman. PETALING JAYA : Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director Shuhaily Zain will be transferred to the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency on July 1. Shuhaily, who was appointed federal CID chief in August 2023, confirmed the transfer with Berita Harian but declined to comment further. He will reportedly take over as the director-general of the border agency until June 30, 2027 and replaces Hazani Ghazali who retired in February. Johor police chief M Kumar will take over from Shuhaily as Bukit Aman CID director. Kumar's replacement has yet to be announced. In August last year, Malaysiakini reported that Shuhaily and deputy inspector-general of police Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay would be involved in a major shake-up of Bukit Aman's leadership. The news portal quoted a source as saying Ayob might be transferred to lead either the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency or the border agency, while Shuhaily was speculated to take over as director-general of the national anti-drugs agency. The then IGP Razarudin Husain rejected the report, which led to a police investigation into Malaysiakini over its article, with three of its journalists summoned to give their statements last year.
