WHAT HAPPENED?
The 73-year-old required urgent medical attention. He is now said to be "doing well", with Bild reporting that the former West Germany international was cleared to leave hospital on Saturday evening.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Hoeness was taken ill on the golf course at Miel Castle, which is situated around 270 miles from Munich. The charity event in question was hosted by Timotheus Hottges, the CEO of Telekom - a key sponsor of Bundesliga champions Bayern.
DID YOU KNOW?
Hoeness is a club legend at Bayern having made 329 appearances for the club between 1970 and 1979. He helped them to three domestic titles during that time and a hat-trick of European Cup triumphs, while also winning the World Cup at international level in 1974.
TELL ME MORE
Hoeness moved into an executive role with Bayern after retiring and spent 30 years as the club's general manager before being elected as president in 2009. He stepped down after 10 years in that role, making way for Herbert Hainer, and now fills an honorary president post.
WHAT NEXT FOR BAYERN MUNICH?
Bayern were in action as Hoeness mingled with sponsors elsewhere. Vincent Kompany's side claimed a 2-1 friendly victory over Ligue 1 side Lyon at the Allianz Arena, with Michael Olise bagging a match-winning brace.

RB Leipzig contact Liverpool over Harvey Elliott transfer

RB Leipzig have contacted Liverpool over the potential signing of Harvey Elliott. While talks are not currently at an advanced stage, discussions between the clubs are ongoing. The Athletic reported on July 1 that Leipzig were among the clubs interested in a move for Elliott, with Liverpool placing a transfer valuation for the midfielder in excess of £40million plus a buy-back option, or above £50m without one. Advertisement Leipzig believe the 22-year-old would be a direct replacement for Xavi Simons, who could leave the German club in the closing weeks of the transfer window. The Athletic reported on July 29 that Leipzig were in discussions with Chelsea over the potential sale of Dutch international Simons; the 22-year-old scored 10 Bundesliga goals and provided six assists in 2024-25. Elliott started just two Premier League matches for Liverpool in 2024-25, both of which came after Arne Slot's side has already secured the title. He made 28 appearances in total over all competitions, registering five goals and three assists. The central midfielder said in June that he was wary of 'wasting years of my career' due to his lack of game-time at Anfield. 'Nothing makes me want to leave,' Elliott said. 'I love the club, I love the fans, the team. I support them as well. But as I said, most importantly, it's just about what's best for my career.' Elliott was Player of the Tournament at this summer's Under-21 European Championship, as England sealed a second successive title with victory over Germany in June's final. The midfielder scored five goals, including one in the final and two in the semi-final defeat of the Netherlands, as one of only two England players who was a member of both the victorious 2023 and 2025 squads under Lee Carsley. Elliott has made 147 appearances for Liverpool since signing from Fulham in 2019, and spent the 2020-21 campaign on loan at Blackburn Rovers. The England Under-21 international has won six trophies during his time at Anfield. Additional reporting from David Ornstein (TOMAS BENEDIKOVIC/AFP via Getty Images)

(Photo by) Alberto Gilardino's Pisa gave themselves an extremely tough fixture by taking on German giants Bayer Leverkusen, who are just days away from their first official match of the season. It was therefore not much of a surprise that they were swept aside 3-0 with all the goals in the first half from Robert Andrich on a set play routine, Christian Kofane's counter-attack and Exequiel Palacios. The Serie A newcomers tried to fight back, especially after Bayer Leverkusen saw Edmond Tapsoba sent off at the 54th minute, but they were unable to put a dent in the result. Genoa played out a 1-1 draw against the Japanese university students' national team. Ruslan Malinovskyi had put the Grifone in front by converting a penalty, while Lorenzo Colombo rattled the frame of the goal. Shinoda got the equaliser when a through ball allowed him to spring the offside trap.
