Villagers hold rasta roko demanding arrest in Parli businessmans murder case

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jul 25 (PTI) Villagers staged a 'rasta roko' on a highway in Maharashtra's Beed district on Friday, demanding arrest in the 2023 murder case of Parli-based businessman Mahadev Munde.
Residents of Bhopla and Kanherwadi villages in Parli taluka staged a protest on the Parli-Ambajogai Highway for about an hour in the morning, an official said.
Mahadev Munde was abducted and murdered in Parli city of Beed district on October 21, 2023. The Beed police have not made any arrests.
The probe in the case has been handed over to the local crime branch.
Last week, the murdered businessman's wife, Dnyaneshwari Munde, consumed poison on the premises of the Beed superintendent of police's office. She was rushed to a hospital, where she underwent treatment.
Talking to reporters, Dyaneshwari Munde said, 'The police are responsible for the situation today. It is their failure that they could not apprehend the accused." Rajabhau Fad, sarpanch of Karnherwadi village, said Munde's wife has been fighting for justice for 20 months now.
'We demand that a special investigation team of senior officers be constituted to nab the accused," he said. PTI AW ARU

Woman kills brother after he tests HIV positive
Chitradurga (Karnataka), Jul 28 (PTI) A 23-year-old man was strangled to death allegedly by his sister and brother-in-law to 'protect family's honour" after she discovered that he was HIV positive, police said on Monday. The victim, who hailed from a village in Holalkere taluk of this district, met with an accident recently. He was taken to a hospital and during a blood test, the doctors discovered that he was HIV positive, they said. The woman has been arrested, police said, adding efforts are being taken to nab her husband, who is still at large. During interrogation, the woman told police that on July 25, she strangled her brother to death using her veil with the help of her husband after she learnt that he was HIV positive, a senior police officer said. She feared that if someone got to know that her brother was HIV positive, her family would be shamed and may be boycotted by relatives and villagers. It also worried her that the infection could potentially infect their parents as well, who already suffered from BP and sugar-related health issues, he said. The woman further claimed that her brother was also under heavy debt, he added. According to police, when the victim was being treated at a private hospital in Davangere for accident related complications and during routine blood tests before the surgery, the doctors discovered that he was HIV positive and informed his sister. The hospital authorities then advised them to get him treated at another hospital. Later, on the pretext of getting her brother treated at a hospital in Bengaluru, she, along with her husband, took him with them. She allegedly strangled her brother to death with the help of her husband and returned with his body, claiming that he died on the way to Bengaluru, the police officer said. However, noticing suspicious marks around his neck during the cremation, the villagers alerted his family and she confessed her crime to her father, he said. Following this, her father lodged a complaint at Holalkere police station and a case of murder was registered, police said. Over 10k SIMs blocked as job, investment frauds rise in Prayagraj
Online investment traps, fake part-time job offers, and Telegram-based fraud networks have emerged as major platforms for cyber crimes in Prayagraj, prompting a year-long crackdown by the district's Cyber Cell. Between July 2024 and June 2025, authorities blocked 10,400 SIM cards, 612 mobile phone IMEI numbers, and 59 mule bank accounts allegedly linked to these digital scams, officials said on Monday. 10,400 SIM blocked, 612 IEMI blocked in past one year (Sourced) Many of the SIM cards were issued using fake identities and were reportedly used by interstate and international gangs to lure victims with promises of high profits and quick earnings. The fraudsters often guided users to join Telegram channels under the pretext of giving free tips on stock markets, remote jobs, or financial investment advice, police said. According to deputy commissioner of police (Trans Ganga) and nodal officer for cyber operations, Kuldeep Singh Gunawat, these networks were found to be operating from countries including Nepal, Pakistan, China, Dubai, and Myanmar. Funds from victims were often diverted through multiple accounts within minutes, making the fraud difficult to trace. To counter the growing cyber threat, the district has set up five-member Cyber Units at each of the 43 police stations. These units include a sub-inspector, a head constable, a constable, a lady constable, and a computer operator. Gunawat said the most reported tactics used by fraudsters include share market scams, job frauds in other states, and mobile app-based schemes. Victims are typically enticed with offers of easy income, and later manipulated into transferring money under various pretexts. Cyber officials have also issued an advisory urging users to avoid clicking on unknown APK links or messages on WhatsApp and Telegram, and to immediately block SIM cards, bank accounts, and payment cards if their mobile phones are lost. Citizens have also been warned against responding to video calls from unknown numbers and sharing OTPs with anyone. Cyber cell in-charge Ghanshyam Yadav said nearly a dozen complaints related to digital arrest threats and Bitcoin-based frauds have been registered. He added that cyber gangs were using API apps to gain unauthorised access to OTPs sent to Indian SIMs, posing new challenges for investigators.
