New Delhi [India], June 29 (ANI): Australian all-rounder Mitchell Owen is on verge of a world record, as with one more 'Player of the Match' award during the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC), he will join Bangladesh legend Shakib al Hasan as player with most successive POTM honours in T20 cricket.
While representing Washington Freedom in the ongoing MLC tournament, he secured his fourth consecutive POTM against San Francisco Unicorns, taking a brilliant 5/17 to reduce the opponents to 157/9 in their 20 overs in pursuit of 170 runs. However, he scored a first-ball duck with the bat.
One more will help him join Shakib as the player with the joint-most-successive POTMs in T20s, with a total of five, as per Wisden.
Previously, against the Los Angeles Knight Riders, he scored a quickfire 43 in 16 balls (three fours and four sixes) to successfully chase down 214 runs and had bowling figures of 0/47. Before this, against the Texas Super Kings, he first took 3/33 with the ball, following it with a 52-ball 89 (eight fours and five sixes) to chase down a massive 221 runs. Against MI New York, he took 1/29 and scored a fiery 60 in 26 balls, with five fours and five sixes to chase down 189 runs for his side to earn the POTM honours.
In the ongoing MLC, Owen is the second-highest run-getter, with 288 runs in seven matches at an average of 41.14 and a strike rate of 210.21, with two fifties. He is also the second-highest wicket-taker with 14 scalps at an average of 14.35.
Owen rose to fame with a century for Hobart Hurricanes (108 in 42 balls with six fours and 11 sixes) to win them their first-ever Big Bash League (BBL) title. He is now the eighth man to win POTM in four consecutive T20 matches. (ANI)

India's Playing XI For 2nd Test Against England Revealed? Practice Pictures Show...

There has been a lot of chatter surrounding India's playing XI for the second Test match against England. Following the loss at Headingley, both fans and experts have been calling for changes with Nitish Kumar Reddy emerging as a top choice. Experts suggested Reddy's name in place of all-rounder Shardul Thakur while Kuldeep Yadav 's inclusion was also discussed at length following India's disappointing start to the series. While nothing official has been communicated from the team's side, pictures of practice sessions have left fans intrigued. A picture posted by RevSportz on X (formerly Twitter) showed Karun Nair, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan and Nitish Kumar Reddy forming the slip cordon while Yashasvi Jaiswal practised at leg slip and short leg. The inclusion of Reddy in the slip cordon was considered to be a massive indication while questions remained over Jasprit Bumrah 's availability. Meanwhile, Australia legend Greg Chappell believes India paid the price for a lack of variety in their bowling attack during the first Test against England and has called for the inclusion of Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav, whom he hails as the "best wrist-spinner since Shane Warne", in the playing XI. India lost the opening Test of the five-match series by five wickets at Headingley, where they were also guilty of dropping as many as eight catches. "As disappointing as the fielding in Headingley was, it was not the main reason India lost the Test. Most of India's problems were self-inflicted. Perhaps the most expensive error was the no-ball that gave Harry Brook an early life in the second innings," Chappell wrote in his column for 'ESPNCricinfo'. However, the former Australian skipper felt that the sameness of India's right-arm seamers -- Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Shardul Thakur -- posed a bigger tactical problem that the fielding issue. "More concerning to me, though, is the lack of variety in the bowling attack. Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, India's seamers are too similar - all right-arm, medium-fast, operating at comparable angles. "There is a reason why wickets often fall after a change of bowling. It forces the batter to recalibrate. That variability isn't available to Shubman Gill with his current crop."

MS Dhoni Makes Big Move, Applies For 'Captain Cool' Trademark

Former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has filed a trademark application for the phrase 'CAPTAIN COOL', a sobriquet widely associated with his calm on-field demeanour. According to the Trade Marks Registry portal, the application's status is 'accepted and advertised'. It was published in the official trademark journal on June 16. The application was filed on June 5. The proposed trademark is registered under the category for sports training, providing sports training facilities, sports coaching and services. No comments could immediately be obtained from Dhoni. Interestingly, another company, Prabha Skill Sports (OPC) Pvt Ltd, had earlier filed a similar application for the phrase. However, that application's status is showing as 'rectification filed'. Earlier this month, Dhoni was inducted into the ICC's Hall of Fame for the year 2025 along with seven cricketers, including Australian great Matthew Hayden and South Africa's Hashim Amla. The ICC hailed Dhoni as a player who excelled not just in numbers but also in "extraordinary consistency, fitness and longevity". "Celebrated for his calm under pressure and unmatched tactical nous, but also a trailblazer in the shorter formats, MS Dhoni's legacy as one of the game's greatest finishers, leaders and wicketkeepers has been honoured with his induction into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame," the ICC statement had said.
