Caste Census Key to Social Justice, Says Youth Welfare President Khalid Naveed
Mahabubnagar: Social activist Khalid Naveed, President of Youth Welfare Mahabubnagar, has welcomed the proposed national caste census by the central government as a crucial step towards ensuring social justice and equality in India.
In a press statement, he emphasized that for decades, caste data collection has been limited to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, leaving Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and other marginalized communities underrepresented in policymaking.
'The caste census will provide accurate socio-economic data, allowing the government to better target welfare schemes and reservations,' Naveed stated. He noted that existing programs often fail to reach the most disadvantaged due to intersecting inequalities of caste, gender, geography, and poverty.
Following the release of Bihar's caste census in 2023, which revealed that OBCs and Extremely Backward Classes made up over 63% of the state's population, several states including Telangana initiated similar surveys. This created momentum for a nationwide caste census, now backed by the Central Government—a significant policy shift after 70 years.
Naveed also referenced the 1980 Mandal Commission, which advocated for OBC reservations but lacked updated caste data. Similarly, the 2011 Socio-Economic and Caste Census was never fully published, drawing criticism from scholars and activists.
While critics argue the census might deepen caste divisions, Naveed stressed that a transparent and accurate caste enumeration would promote fair representation, help recalibrate reservation policies, and ensure that affirmative action reaches those who need it most.

Jat bodies seek OBC quota for community in 3 dists
1 2 Jaipur: Jat organisations held a rally in Nadbai (Bharatpur) Sunday, demanding the inclusion of Jats from Bharatpur, Dholpur and Deeg in the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category for reservation in central govt jobs. The leaders issued a one-month ultimatum to the Union govt to act on the long-pending demand, warning of an intensified agitation that could include highway and railway blockades. The central govt provides 27% reservation for OBC. The rally was attended by top community leaders, including representatives of the Rajasthan Jat Mahasabha, Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal, and newly elected Bharatpur MP Sanjna Jatav. "If this 25-year-old demand is not met by the double-engine govt—Bhajan Lal Sharma in Rajasthan and Narendra Modi at the Centre—it would mean they are deliberately ignoring the Jat community," said Beniwal. He added that the govt only remembered the Jat community during elections or symbolic appointments. "They made Jats vice-president or governors only after the community showed its political and social strength," he said. Beniwal criticised Jat leaders in the BJP at both state and national levels for their silence on the issue. "The community is watching, and in the coming elections, leaders will be judged based on their commitment to this cause," he warned. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cardiologists Recommend: Eat 1 Teaspoon Tonight – Wake Up With a Flatter Stomach Hollywood News | USA Click Here Undo MP Sanjana Jatav called the exclusion of Jats from the OBC category in the three districts "blatant discrimination." "There's no justifiable reason to deny reservation to Jats in Bharatpur, Dholpur, and Deeg when their socio-economic condition is no different from Jats in other parts of the country," she said. "Even my own community (Scheduled Castes) supports this demand," she added. Jat leaders reiterated that the community is united on the issue and prepared to take their movement forward if no concrete steps are taken by the govt within the given timeframe. In Rajasthan, Jats are included under the 21% reservation for OBC. However, those domiciled in Bharatpur, Dholpur, and Deeg districts are excluded from the central OBC reservation scheme.

Union Minister Chirag Paswan says he wants to contest upcoming assembly elections for the ‘sake of Bihar'
PATNA: Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan on Sunday said that he wants to contest forthcoming assembly elections for the 'sake of Bihar' and not for himself. Addressing the 'Bahujan Bhim Sankalp Samagam' rally at Rajgir in Nalanda district, Chirag slammed the Opposition INDIA bloc, accusing them of misleading voters for their political gains. 'Be careful about the false narrative of the INDIA bloc in the coming election,' he added. Alleging that the Opposition was creating a false narrative to mislead people against the ruling NDA, LJP(RV) supremo said that before the 2024 Lok Sabha election, they (Opposition) contended that the Constitution would be under threat if Narendra Modi was elected as PM for the third consecutive term. 'The truth is before you. The Opposition is trying to play the same game this time again in assembly elections in Bihar. But they will not succeed in their gameplan as people have already understood their ulterior motive,' he told the gathering amid applause. Recalling the Emergency during the Congress regime, Chirag said that numerous people, mostly Dalits, Minorities and OBCs, had been forcibly sterilised. Others were put behind bars and harassed on the pretext of violating the government's directive, he asserted. He alleged that Congress used the people from the Minority community as a political tool and did nothing for their welfare. 'They are trying to project themselves as champions of minorities by organising a rally against the Waqf Act in Patna. But they are silent on the Turkman Gate massacre,' he asked.

Aug 29 march a decisive fight for Marathas: Jarange
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Reiterating his plan to carry out a march in Mumbai on Aug 29, quota activist Manoj Jarange on Sunday said the upcoming agitation would be a "decisive fight" in securing the desired reservation for the Maratha community from the OBC category. "The agitation in Mumbai will not be to press for our demand anymore, but to ensure the decision is taken by the govt in our favour at any cost," he said. Jarange, at a meeting with his supporters at Antarwali Sarathi from Jalna district, appealed to the Maratha community to register their participation in the statewide march planned in Mumbai. "We have to enter the battlefield now and ensure victory. We have to prepare so that no one can deny our demands," he said, addressing his supporters. The community is fighting for the cause for the last two years and the quota battle has reached its final stage now, he said. The proposed march is to commence from Antarwali Sarathi on Aug 27 and reach Mumbai on Aug 29. "All the people of Mumbai, including migrants, served us in the past during our last agitation. Even if it is the rainy season, please come to drop me off in Mumbai. I will take care of the next things. This opportunity will not come again and I sense a victory for us," Jarange said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esse novo alarme com câmera é quase gratuito em Catanduva (consulte o preço) Alarmes Undo Benefits of OBC reservation to the Maratha community, implementation of Hyderabad, Satara and Bombay gazettes and quashing offences registered against youth during the course of Maratha reservation are some of the demands Jarange has raised.
