Kulem rly station's leaky infra lets in flood of risks
Passengers using the Kulem railway station are facing significant hardships due to infrastructural defects that have left the main platform wet and slippery, and in places, waterlogged, particularly during the monsoon.
The Kulem railway station serves as a gateway to popular tourist destinations, including the Dudhsagar waterfall and the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary. However, despite its importance as a transit hub for both tourists and locals, the station's infrastructure leaves a lot to be desired.
The immediate concern stems from a design flaw because of which rainwater gushes onto the platform due to improper alignment between the roof of the platform and that of the newly constructed station building located right behind the platform.
This misalignment has created a huge gap between the two structures that lets showers inside the platform. The accumulation of rainwater on the platform, coupled with inadequate drainage, creates treacherous conditions for passengers attempting to board and alight from trains.
Regular commuters, including office workers and students, are the worst sufferers. Also particularly vulnerable are the elderly commuters, sources said.

'The platform becomes extremely slippery, and this poses a serious threat to passengers,' said a regular commuter on the Kulem-Vasco local train. 'Senior citizens, schoolchildren, college students, and women are all at risk of falls due to these dangerous conditions. There were many such incidents of people slipping and falling while boarding or alighting from trains.'
Another regular commuter said, 'With both the floors and the benches wet, the commuters find no proper place to keep their belongings, let alone sit.'
Compounding the problem, the station platforms serve as a nighttime shelter for stray cows and dogs, leaving the area filthy by morning hours when commuters arrive to catch the early local train.
Regular commuters have demanded that the railway authorities urgently address the issues.

Andhra Pradesh government plans DIP app to digitally enrich Simhachalam pilgrimage
Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) is planning to implement a 'spiritual digital intervention project' (DIP) at Simhachalam temple under the Prashad (pilgrimage rejuvenation and spiritual heritage augmentation drive) scheme. At its core, the DIP initiative aims to transform the traditional pilgrimage experience into a digitally immersive journey. By integrating multimedia tools and a dedicated mobile application — the spiritual DIP app — visitors will gain a deeper understanding of the temple's history, architecture, and spiritual significance. The app will activate when visitors enter the temple premises, using push notifications and scanning technology. Through the app, visitors can explore various points of interest within the temple, with virtual guides narrating the history and significance of different structures. The app will bring to life the rich mythological stories associated with the temple, offering a personal and immersive experience in a virtual space. It will also provide detailed information about the various poojas offered at the temple. A booklet embedded with app-compatible markers will be offered free with the prasad or as part of selected pooja packages. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Seniors Are Ditching Finger Pricks with This Breakthrough Monitor Thelifeh Undo Visitors can take the booklet home and use the DIP app to experience the temple's narratives and rituals at their convenience, fostering a lasting connection with the temple. A dedicated photo service will also be set up within the temple premises, allowing visitors to take a personalised digital photo with an overlay of the temple or its deities. According to a request for proposal (RfP) floated by APTDC for the project, the expected outcomes of the project include enhanced visitor engagement by offering a more interactive and educational experience, thereby deepening their connection to the temple and its cultural heritage. The innovative use of immersive technology is also expected to attract a wider audience, including younger visitors and tech-savvy tourists. Furthermore, the project will contribute to the preservation of the temple's heritage, making it accessible to future generations in a modern and engaging format. Additional integrated systems proposed include surveillance integration across the premises for improved security and monitoring. The temple store operations and lease management are suggested to be streamlined for efficient resource handling. Smart queue tracking and headcount prediction will assist in managing crowds effectively, while a task management system will ensure the organised and timely execution of responsibilities. A grievance management system and a feedback and suggestions platform will provide channels for addressing concerns and gathering public input. The proposals also include a dedicated call centre to support communication and visitor assistance, and a VIP protocol management to ensure smooth handling of high-profile guests.

'Declare meats, fruits, vegetables': Travelers to US get weird reminder from CBP
CBP posted the photo of a sniffer dog inspecting the cooked head of a pig as CBP alerted travelers to US to declare all food items. The Customs and Border Police Saturday issued a reminder to people traveling to the US that they are required to declare meats, fruits, vegetables, plants, seeds, soil, animal as well as plant and animal products they are carrying to the country. This is not a new rule but recently there have been several cases where non-declaration of these items got travelers penalized. The post drew attention as the social media reminder was accompanied by a photo of a CBP detection dog inspecting a cooked pig's head wrapped in aluminum foil. What does the rule say? According to CBP rules, all travelers entering the United States are required to declare meats, fruits, vegetables, plants, seeds, soil, animals, as well as plant and animal products (including soup or soup products) they may be carrying. The declaration must cover all items carried in checked baggage, carry-on luggage, or in a vehicle. Upon examination of plants, animal products, and associated items, the CBP agriculture specialists at the ports of entry will determine if these items meet the entry requirements of the United States. If these prohibited items are bot declared by passengers, they are confiscated and disposed of by CBP. Penalties may range up to $1,000 per first-time offense for non-commercial quantities. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like List of 15 Foods You Should Avoid Eating during Pregnancy Undo In March, a US TikToker who was coming back home after traveling from Signapore narrated his ordeal at the JFK Airport, He declared nothing at customs but when he went to get his Uber, border agents and a sniffer dog stopped him to take a look at his bag. The CBP warned him of a possible $500 fine for bringing in an undeclared agricultural item. "I was rightfully flabbergasted. I know what can and can't be brought across borders — I've traveled my entire life, visited over 20 countries, and explored all 50 states thoroughly. Railway infrastructure development plan for 5 stations in Nashik district
Nashik: Railway minister Ashwini Vaishaw approved a Rs 1,011 crore plan for the development of railway infrastructure at five stations of Central Railway — Nashik Road, Devlali, Odha, Kasbe Sukene, and Kherwadi — in Nashik district. This initiative aims to manage the influx of pilgrims expected to visit Nashik from various parts of the country. Vaishaw, along with minister of state Ravneet Singh Bittu, conducted an extensive review of the proposals presented by the general manager of Central Railway and the divisional railway manager of the Bhusawal Division on Friday. The authorities outlined their strategies to upgrade the stations and set up new facilities to accommodate the increased traffic during Simhastha Kumbh Mela and other periods. "The plan for Devlali station (on the Mumbai side of Nashik Road station) includes the creation of two pit lines for the maintenance of the rakes, two sick lines used to put the tracks on hold, and two stabilising lines that will ensure the parking of the rakes until they are deployed on the next task. Apart from this, we will also have three new platforms at Devlali station, of which one each will be used for terminating the traffic coming from the Mumbai side and Nashik side, respectively, and the third platform will be used for trains passing through the station," said a senior official from the office of the Divisional Railway Manager, Bhusawal. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The oldest stars whose fans don't even know they're still alive Reportingly Undo At Nashik Road station, limited space has prompted the railways to commence work on two stabilising or parking lines. Additionally, the length of Platform 1 will be extended to accommodate 24-coach trains, up from the existing 22-coach capacity, and the use of Platform 4 will be upgraded to handle trains from either direction. Odha Railway station will undergo significant development with the construction of five stabilising lines for parking trains and an additional platform alongside the existing two. "Odha station (on the Bhusawal side of Nashik Road station) will also be used as a major place to park the trains during Simhastha Kumbh Mela. The facilities developed will be used for agriculture and goods transportation during the non-Simhastha Kumbh period," the official added. At Kasbe Sukene, the platform lengths will be increased to enable the handling of 22-coach trains, up from the current 11-coach trains. Kherwadi will see the construction of two new platforms to accommodate 24-coach trains. "Apart from this, every station will have a 'mela tower' that will house CCTVs, public announcement centres, operations control rooms, security officials monitoring the movement of trains and passengers, construction of wider foot over bridges to enable more people to cross the tracks easily, and also huge holding areas where the pilgrims coming to catch the trains will stay before they are allowed onto the platform as per the availability of the trains," the official said. Construction work has already commenced on approximately 50% of the planned projects, with the remaining work scheduled to begin shortly. Land acquisition will be necessary in some cases and is expected to start by Jan 2026.
