3 cow shelters in Kashi receive ISO cert for care, management
The shelters located in Madhumakhia, Bandepur, and Bhitkuri villages were recognized for their high standards in animal care, nutrition, cleanliness, and overall shelter management.
Chief Development Officer Himanshu Nagpal announced that the ISO certification was awarded to the Madhumakhia cow shelter in Baragaon block, Bandepur shelter in Vidyapeeth block, and Bhitkuri shelter in Sevapuri block. These facilities met international benchmarks for cow protection measures, infrastructure development, veterinary services, fodder management, and modern shelter administration.
The certification, granted by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), is a global recognition that underscores the shelters' adherence to rigorous quality management practices. Currently, 3,354 cattle are housed across permanent and temporary cow shelters in Varanasi district.
Nagpal highlighted that a permanent strategy has been formulated to ensure sustainable and internationally compliant operations in these shelters.

UP Board students outperform peers in private schools at foundation level
Noida: Students of UP board schools have outperformed those in private institutions at the foundational level, exceeding the national average by 4% points in both literacy and numeracy, according to the 2024 PARAKH survey by NCERT. However, performance dipped in higher classes, with the state scoring below average in Classes 6 and 9 across core subjects. 57 Vidarbha villages among 63 from state vying for model solar village tag
1 2 3 4 Nagpur: As many as 63 villages across Maharashtra will be vying for the model solar village tag. The govt has launched the initiative to establish one model solar village in every district of the country under the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme. Notably, 57 of the 63 villages picked from Maharashtra belong to the Vidarbha region. The village that installs the highest solar energy capacity within six months will be declared the winner and will receive a grant of Rs1 crore from the central govt. The selected villages include 26 from Akola, 15 from Buldhana, nine from Wardha, six each from Parbhani and Bhandara, and one village from Gondia. Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co Ltd ( MSEDCL ) has already launched a solar village scheme aimed at making 100 villages in the state energy independent by adopting solar energy. So far, 14 villages have achieved this status. The central govt's model solar village competition is expected to give a further push to this mission. MSEDCL has been appointed as the nodal agency for implementing the scheme in Maharashtra. Villages with a population of at least 5,000 are eligible to participate. "Currently, villages were shortlisted from six districts, most of them from Vidarbha. It is a massive exercise as our personnel have to collect it from different locations. We have also urged citizens not to throw trash in open areas and dispose of it at designated places only," said Dhanshree Jagdale, divisional sanitary inspector of Nagar Road ward office. Jagdale claimed that they work in tandem with airport authorities and the Air Force Station. "Coordinated efforts are the need of the hour to address this issue completely.
