Egypt FM urges halt to Israeli aggression on Palestinians in Gaza, West Bank
Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty urged the international community on Thursday to assume its role in stopping the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, during a phone call with his French counterpart Jean-Noël Barrot.
Both ministers discussed the latest regional developments, particularly the situation in Gaza. They stressed the importance of resuming the ceasefire and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian and relief aid amid the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Strip.
According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Abdelatty highlighted the intensive efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the US to achieve a swift and sustainable ceasefire in Gaza.
He also stressed the need to achieve a just and sustainable resolution to the Palestinian cause through the implementation of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Furthermore, the two sides addressed the postponed UN two-state solution conference in New York.
The conference, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, was initially scheduled to be held on 17-20 June, but was delayed indefinitely due to the Israel-Iran war.
During the call, both ministers agreed on the importance of Iran and Israel fully committing to the ceasefire. They emphasized the importance of taking practical and concrete steps that contribute to de-escalation and pave the way for political and diplomatic solutions.
The two ministers also discussed strengthening and enhancing the strategic relations between Egypt and France.

Israeli military rejects report that soldiers told to fire at Palestinians waiting for food, after repeated deadly incidents
CNN — The Israeli military has denied a new report that soldiers were ordered to fire at unarmed Palestinians waiting for humanitarian aid in Gaza, after hundreds of people were reported killed while approaching food distribution sites in recent weeks. On Friday, the daily Haaretz newspaper published an article alleging that Israeli soldiers in Gaza were instructed by their commanders to shoot at the crowds of Palestinians approaching aid sites, even as it was evident that the crowds posed no threat. One soldier who spoke anonymously with Haaretz described the approach routes to the aid sites as a 'killing field' where Israeli forces open fire even if there is no immediate threat. According to the article, Israeli forces recently began dispersing crowds with artillery shells, which resulted in a sharp rise in casualties. 'We strongly reject the accusation raised in the article — the IDF did not instruct the forces to deliberately shoot at civilians, including those approaching the distribution centers,' the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in response to the article. 'To be clear, IDF directives prohibit deliberate attacks on civilians.' Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz have also rejected the report as 'vicious lies designed to discredit the IDF – the most moral army in the world.' More than 500 Palestinians have been killed as they approached aid sites or trucks carrying aid since May 27, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Palestinians have come under fire on a near daily basis as they approach the sites, health officials and emergency responders have said. In one such incident earlier this month, more than a dozen eyewitnesses, including those wounded in the attack, told CNN that Israeli troops shot at crowds in repeated volleys of gunfire. Weapons experts said the rate of gunfire heard in the footage, as well as images of bullets retrieved from victims, were consistent with machine guns used by the Israeli military. On multiple occasions, the IDF has acknowledged firing what it called 'warning shots' at Palestinians approaching military positions near aid distribution sites. It has also said that it is examining reports of casualties, but it has not publicly released any findings to date. According to Haaretz, the Military Advocate General has instructed the IDF General Staff's Fact-Finding Assessment Mechanism – which reviews incidents involving the potential violations of the laws of war – to investigate suspected war crimes near the aid sites. 'Any allegation of a deviation from the law or IDF directives will be thoroughly examined, and further action will be taken as necessary,' the IDF said on Friday. CNN has reached out to the IDF for additional comment. Shots fired at controversial aid sites The Gaza aid sites where the deaths have occurred are run by the controversial Israel- and US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which hands out pre-packaged boxes of food at a handful of locations in southern and central Gaza. The group's distribution was chaotic from the start one month ago, with crowds of desperate Palestinians rushing the sites the moment they open to take the available aid before it runs out, often within less than an hour. GHF was set up to replace the United Nations aid distribution mechanism, which Israel and the US have accused Hamas of looting. Hamas has rejected those claims, and humanitarian groups say most of the UN-distributed food aid reaches civilians. It has acknowledged some episodes of violence occurring outside of its immediate aid sites, but repeatedly described food distribution operations as having 'proceeded without incident.' In response to the Haaretz reporting, the organization said it was 'not aware' of the specific incidents described. Nevertheless, it added, 'these allegations are too grave to ignore and we therefore call on Israel to investigate them and transparently publish the results in a timely manner.' On Thursday, the US State Department announced that it is awarding $30 million to the organization, a sign of continued US support for GHF, which says it distributed 46 million meals in four weeks of operations.

Trump says Gaza ceasefire ‘within the next week' as Israeli attacks kill scores - War on Gaza
US President Donald Trump said on Friday that a ceasefire in Gaza could be reached 'within the next week', even as Israeli forces continued their military onslaught that killed at least 60 Palestinians across the territory the same day. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said: 'We think within the next week we're going to get a ceasefire. We're working on Gaza and trying to get it taken care of.' The US brokered a temporary ceasefire during the final days of Joe Biden's presidency, with involvement from Trump's incoming administration. That agreement collapsed in March when Israel resumed its war on Gaza, launching widespread air and ground attacks that killed more than 400 people in the first days alone. Israel has also imposed a full blockade, halting all food and humanitarian supplies for over two months. The siege, condemned by UN agencies and humanitarian groups, has pushed the population towards famine conditions. Under international pressure, Israel later approved a limited and tightly controlled aid mechanism via the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), backed by both Israel and the US. The system relies on private American contractors and coordination with Israeli forces. Aid agencies say it has become a tool of repression rather than relief. 'The new aid distribution system has become a killing field,' said Philippe Lazzarini, head of UNRWA. 'People are being shot at while trying to access food for themselves and their families.' He called for an immediate return to UN-led humanitarian operations, free from Israeli military oversight. UN Secretary-General António Guterres echoed the condemnation. 'People are being killed simply trying to feed themselves and their families,' he said. 'The search for food must never be a death sentence.' Gaza's health ministry reports that more than 500 Palestinians have been killed near aid centres since late May. The territory's civil defence agency has also documented repeated incidents of Israeli fire on civilians seeking food. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) called the GHF system 'slaughter masquerading as humanitarian aid,' warning that Israel was weaponizing relief efforts while continuing to target civilians. The pattern of attacks comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected a report that military commanders instructed soldiers to open fire on unarmed Palestinians gathered at aid sites. The report, published by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz under the headline 'It's a killing field', quoted unnamed soldiers who said they were ordered to shoot at civilians near food distribution points to disperse crowds, even when there was no threat. Haaretz also reported that the military advocate general, the army's top legal authority, had directed military police to investigate what were described as suspected war crimes at the sites.
