Egypt FM urges halt to Israeli aggression on Palestinians in Gaza, West Bank
Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty urged the international community on Thursday to assume its role in stopping the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, during a phone call with his French counterpart Jean-Noël Barrot. Both ministers discussed the latest regional developments, particularly the situation in Gaza. They stressed the importance of resuming the ceasefire and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian and relief aid amid the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Strip. According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Abdelatty highlighted the intensive efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the US to achieve a swift and sustainable ceasefire in Gaza. He also stressed the need to achieve a just and sustainable resolution to the Palestinian cause through the implementation of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Furthermore, the two sides addressed the postponed UN two-state solution conference in New York. The conference, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, was initially scheduled to be held on 17-20 June, but was delayed indefinitely due to the Israel-Iran war. During the call, both ministers agreed on the importance of Iran and Israel fully committing to the ceasefire. They emphasized the importance of taking practical and concrete steps that contribute to de-escalation and pave the way for political and diplomatic solutions. The two ministers also discussed strengthening and enhancing the strategic relations between Egypt and France. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:

France expresses 'concern' over US strikes on Iran
France expressed "concern" over the United States' air strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities on Sunday, June 22, and called on all parties to "exercise restraint" to avoid greater conflict. "France has taken note with concern of the strikes carried out last night by the United States of America against three sites of Iran's nuclear programme," Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot posted on X. He said that France had not taken part in the planning of those strikes. Paris, Barrot added, "urges all parties to exercise restraint to avoid any escalation that could lead to an extension of the conflict." There was no immediate reaction from President Emmanuel Macron, who had said, on Saturday, that France and its European partners planned to step up talks with Iran. On Friday, British, French, German and EU top diplomats held talks in Geneva with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, a week after Israel started its bombardment of Iranian sites. They urged Iran to revive diplomatic efforts with the US to find a solution, amid the standoff over its nuclear programme. "France has repeatedly expressed its very firm opposition to Iran's access to nuclear weapons," Barrot said, adding: "France is convinced that a lasting settlement of this issue requires a negotiated solution within the framework of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty."
