MGNREGA Revolutionises Rural Landscape in Uttar Pradesh
In the financial year 2024–25, the state surpassed its annual target of 26 crore man-days by generating an unprecedented 33.65 crore man-days, achieving the top rank nationwide in this category. Uttar Pradesh also led the nation in terms of expenditure and execution under MGNREGA, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable village upliftment.
In a landmark achievement, 43% of the man-days generated in 2025–26 were attributed to women, marking a new era of inclusive employment under MGNREGA. The introduction of timely payments, local employment opportunities, and enhanced social security through BOCW registration is becoming a model that other states can replicate.
In a push for green development, 13.21 crore saplings were planted in the current fiscal year, with an impressive 98.75% of them geo-tagged using the Forest Department's Haritima app. This demonstrates a successful blend of environmental foresight and digital transparency.
MGNREGA has ensured employment within villages, reducing migration and strengthening rural livelihoods. In FY 2024–25, 65.28 lakh families received employment, and 6.19 lakh families completed 100 days of work, marking the highest figures in Uttar Pradesh's history outside the COVID-affected years.
In 2024–25, a total of 6,589 playgrounds were completed, with an additional 13,196 currently underway, enhancing community life and wellness opportunities in rural areas.
Deputy Chief Minister Maurya's directives toward transparency, promptness, and public resolution have injected new momentum into programs like PMAY-Gramin, Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana, and PMGSY. His vision guarantees that these schemes reach the last mile, embodying the motto of 'Antyodaya.'
With increased women's participation, climate-sensitive planning, and robust implementation of employment guarantees, MGNREGA has become a cornerstone of Uttar Pradesh's rural renaissance. The state's exemplary performance is now viewed as a model that can be replicated nationwide.

50K houses to be allotted for Delhi's slum dwellers: CM Gupta
NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday announced a decision concerning the slum clusters of the capital, directing the Railways, Delhi Development Authority (DDA), and all government departments to ensure that no slum in the city is demolished. In cases where removal becomes unavoidable due to development projects or other reasons, alternative housing must be provided in advance. The CM further stated that approximately 50,000 houses constructed years ago in the outer areas of the city will be renovated and allocated to slum dwellers. She said that the flats will be allotted under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U). She pointed out that under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), Delhi government agencies such as DUSIB and DSIIDC were allocated substantial funds. However, due to the inaction of previous government, approximately Rs 732 crore was left unused. She added that the Centre has approved the utilisation of these funds for the renovation of the dilapidated flats. The CM also stated that if required, the government will amend the existing policy on slum clusters and will even approach the court to protect their housing rights. Gupta said that the slums are an inseparable part of the capital, with residents who have been living there for decades. She criticised the opposition for using slum dwellers as a political vote bank, asserting that her government is making efforts to ensure their rightful recognition as residents of Delhi.

Fired 4 times in 18 years, this engineer says ‘AI is not the problem' behind tech layoffs
Marc Kriguer, a seasoned software engineer with nearly 30 years of work experience in the tech world, has weathered more than his fair share of professional storms. At 59, he's been laid off four times over the past 18 years, most recently from Walmart Global Tech, where he was part of a sweeping round of cuts that affected roughly 1,500 employees. In a candid essay for Business Insider, Kriguer opened up about his journey through an industry that's constantly shifting. His fascination with computers began before most kids had even seen one, he was debugging code before age 10. After officially stepping into the tech industry nearly three decades ago, his first major career setback came in 2008, when Sun Microsystems let him go just ahead of its acquisition by Oracle. Other layoffs followed, including one during the early Covid-19 outbreak and another at a company focused on plagiarism detection. Despite the rapid rise of AI tools in software development, Kriguer doesn't think automation is the main culprit behind the wave of tech layoffs. He admits he was initially reluctant to adopt AI for coding but sees value in using it to check work. Still, he's noticed a shift, many job postings now list AI proficiency as either a preferred or required skill, hinting at a future where it might be non-negotiable. Kriguer sees a different root cause behind the layoffs: 'Companies hire too quickly,' he told Business Insider, citing the pressures of venture capital and the high cost of tech salaries. To him, the issue is less about disruptive technology and more about unsustainable hiring sprees and subsequent budget cuts. Even with the challenges, Kriguer hasn't lost hope. He's actively applying for new roles, about 40 so far, and has made it to interviews with 15 companies. While he admits that the software engineering landscape isn't expanding as fast as it once did, he still sees opportunities: 'Demand hasn't disappeared,' he says, and he believes experience and the ability to adapt remain valuable in today's tech world.
