ARAFAT- Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has announced the successful execution of the pilgrim dispatching plan to Arafat, which began at dawn on 9 Dhu al-Hijjah, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
This year's operation was implemented under a unified model integrating service and regulatory agencies through a central dispatching and joint operations centre.
The movement of pilgrims was carried out via buses and trains, adhering to strict timetables, with close field monitoring and heightened security ensuring smooth traffic flow and efficient distribution to Arafat camps without major congestion.
The plan incorporated pre-simulation exercises to anticipate various scenarios, as well as readiness of field teams and close coordination among relevant agencies.
Artificial intelligence played a crucial role by analysing real-time data to identify areas of high density and enabling dynamic redirection of crowds when needed.
A 24-hour monitoring and control centre, equipped with smart cameras linked to a central system, supported immediate decision-making in collaboration with security and service agencies.
The digital Nusuk Card also contributed to the plan's efficiency by integrating with the Nusuk and Tawakkalna platforms, using a unified response code to monitor pilgrim movement and track entry and exit times.
The ministry said the smooth dispatch to Arafat reflects the success of early planning and field integration, laying the foundation for seamless execution of the following rites in Muzdalifah and Mina.
The initiative forms part of the Pilgrim Experience Programme under Saudi Vision 2030, aimed at building a sustainable and integrated operational system for Hajj. - BERNAMA-SPA

Revived Labuan – Kota Kinabalu ferry at full capacity

Published on: Monday, June 30, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jun 30, 2025 By: Bernama Text Size: While the Ro-Ro ferry is generally preferred for travel to nearby districts such as Menumbok, Kuala Penyu, or Beaufort, the express ferry provides a direct, faster option to Kota Kinabalu. LABUAN: The Labuan-Kota Kinabalu express ferry service has seen a surge in passengers since resuming operations on May 27, following a three-year suspension. To date, more than 3,700 commuters have used the direct sea route, with each trip operating at full capacity of over 100 passengers. The revival of the service, linking the duty-free island to Sabah's capital, has been hailed by federal authorities as a much-needed boost to regional connectivity. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa described the ferry's return as a key development for Labuan's socio-economic growth. 'This express ferry is not just a transportation service — it is a vital connector for regional economic, social and development networks,' she said. Speaking to reporters at the Labuan International Ferry Terminal after welcoming passengers from Kota Kinabalu, Dr Zaliha said the service facilitates community mobility, daily activities, and the transport of goods within local supply chains. She expressed satisfaction with the strong public reception, noting that the ferry is popular among a wide range of travellers commuting between the two cities. 'This route offers a more convenient and time-saving alternative to the roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) ferry via Menumbok, especially for passengers without vehicles,' she said. While the Ro-Ro ferry is generally preferred for travel to nearby districts such as Menumbok, Kuala Penyu, or Beaufort, the express ferry provides a direct, faster option to Kota Kinabalu. Dr Zaliha also expressed hope that the operator would continue to enhance the service, including shortening travel time, to meet the growing demand. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Bangkok Festival set to draw 10,000 visitors, bolster Malaysia's 2026 tourism drive

BANGKOK, June 29 (Bernama): The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture is targeting 10,000 visitors for the Malaysia Food and Culture Festival 2025, held from June 29 to June 30, 2025, at Samyan Mitrtown, Bangkok. Its Minister, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, stated that with the venue's average daily footfall of about 50,000 people, the festival is expected to attract at least 20 per cent of visitors over the two days. "The strategic location, situated near a major university and surrounded by office buildings and family-friendly spaces, makes it an ideal venue for engaging students, professionals, and families alike,' Tiong told Bernama on Sunday (June 29). He added that the vibrancy of the festival invites the public to experience the essence of Malaysia through its rich culinary offerings, captivating cultural performances, and exclusive tourism promotions, all in line with the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign. Tiong, who is on a working visit to Bangkok from June 27 to July 3, officiated at the festival, aiming to enhance bilateral tourism cooperation and lay the foundation for stronger ties ahead of VM2026. He emphasised that the festival plays a significant role in the lead-up to next year's Visit Malaysia, aiming to boost visibility and strengthen Malaysia's image as a welcoming and diverse travel destination. "This initiative directly contributes to our 2025 tourism targets of achieving 43 million international tourist arrivals and generating RM283.8 billion in tourism receipts for the country,' he said. Tiong noted that the festival is part of Tourism Malaysia's ongoing efforts to promote VM2026, particularly by encouraging Thai tourists to explore Malaysia's unique attractions. "Hosting the festival at such a high-traffic and accessible location allows us to showcase Malaysian culture and cuisine to a wide audience, encouraging more Thai and regional travellers to consider Malaysia for their next holiday destination,' he added. According to Tourism Malaysia's records, Thailand contributed 2.26 million visitors to Malaysia in 2024, generating RM3.994 billion in tourism receipts. - Bernama
