2 killed, 10 missing after vehicle carrying pilgrims falls into Alaknanda river in Uttarakhand
Rudraprayag, June 26 (PTI) At least two people were killed, eight injured and ten others were reported missing when a vehicle carrying pilgrims fell into the Alaknanda river here on Thursday, police said.
Two bodies have been recovered, one near the accident site and the other from the river near Rudraprayag, Satyendra Singh Bhandari, a member of the Red Cross Society rescue team told PTI. Seven people, including three women and two children, were injured in the accident while ten others went missing, he said, adding that the injured have been hospitalised.
There were 20 people, including the driver, on board the vehicle when it fell into the river, Bhandari added.
The tempo traveller is said to have been going towards the Badrinath Dham when the accident occurred at around 7.30 am, he said quoting the injured.

Haryana Police arrests wanted criminal with Rs 5,000 bounty in Mewat
Gurugram, Jul 21 (PTI) A wanted criminal carrying a bounty of Rs 5000 and involved in multiple cases, including cow slaughter, has been arrested in Mewat district, Haryana Police said on Monday. The accused has been identified as Dilshad of Sudaka village in the district. Several severe criminal cases, including cow slaughter, are registered against Dilshad in Nuh, Palwal district and Rajasthan, police said. A case under Arms Act is also registered against the accused at the Bahin police station in Palwal district. He was declared a fugitive in that case, they said. JDA demolishes residential house of drug peddler built on its land in Jammu
Agency: PTI Jammu, Jul 21 (PTI) Jammu Development Authority (JDA) on Monday demolished a residential house allegedly illegally constructed by a drug peddler on the authority's land in Jammu city, officials said. The property belonged to Reena alias Roopa, wife of Bobby, a notorious drug peddler from Rajeev Nagar. The JDA team, led by Tehsildar Megha Gupta and assisted by police, carried out the demolition operation against the 'illegally" constructed residential structure at Rajeev Nagar in Tehsil Bahu, they said. The demolished property belonged to Reena, a notorious drug peddler with a criminal background, against whom multiple cases have been registered in the city, they said. She was also detained under the Public Safety Act in 2019 due to her continued involvement in the drug trade and threat to public order, they added. On July 31, 2024, police successfully obtained confirmation of property attachment orders against Reena and three other notorious drug peddlers from the Rajeev Nagar and Ragoora areas.
