'It's like an episode of the Vicar of Dibley': King Charles is 'called in' to settle an unholy row between a priest and choirmaster at Sandringham
A bitter feud between the vicar and choirmaster erupted over the future direction of the choir at St Mary Magdalene Church – the same site where the Royal Family traditionally attends Christmas service.
The clash left the choir in tatters, with dwindling attendance, furious parishioners, and the Bishop of Norwich's inbox overflowing with complaints.
At the heart of the dispute is Rev Canon Paul Williams, the King's Domestic Chaplain, who took up his post on 2023 after moving from Tewkesbury Abbey.
He is said to be keen on modernising the centuries-old choir, including launching a social media presence to promote its work.
But his plans appear to have struck a chord with Dr Claire Stewart, the long-serving and much-admired Director of Music, who hit back with a 28-page grievance report in response to a review of her role.
Sources say the once-harmonious church has been plunged into an 'unholy row', with some likening the ongoing drama to an episode of The Vicar of Dibley.
King Charles, who regularly worships at the 16th-century church, is understood to have been made fully aware of the dispute.
Dr Claire Stewart has served as choirmaster for 12 years and is described by parishioners as 'hugely adored' and under immense pressure as the rift deepens
Insiders say he lingered after a recent service to speak personally with concerned members of the congregation.
'It's turning into an unholy row and it's starting to get very bitter and damaging,' a source told The Sun.
'It is overshadowing what should be a harmonious parish church on the King's royal estate and heads need to be banged together.'
Dr Stewart has served as choirmaster for 12 years and is described by parishioners as 'hugely adored' and under immense pressure as the rift deepens.
In an attempt to calm the waters, local councillor Lord Greville Howard, Baron Greville of Rising, convened a private meeting earlier this month with church leaders in a bid to broker peace.
But tensions remain high, and choir numbers at Sunday services and rehearsals have noticeably thinned amid the ongoing turmoil.

Liam Gallagher's sweet gesture to Noel during Oasis comeback gig proves the ‘brothers are at peace'
LIAM Gallagher made a sweet gesture to brother Noel last night - which signals that the "brothers are at peace". The famous brothers shared the stage for the first time in 16 years last night at Cardiff 's Principality Stadium. 3 3 3 Noel and Liam made their long awaited return to the stage, playing a whopping 23 songs from their impressive back catalogue including Roll With It, Stand By Me, Wonderwall and Don't Look Back in Anger. The former feuding brothers walked out on stage with their arms raised together. Body language expert Judi James said this was a "celebratory ritual that suggested an air of sibling peace and harmony". "Analysis of the ritual is fascinating. It's Liam who has grabbed Noel's wrist to raise their arms, suggesting he's the one wanting to push the idea that they're reunited for real," Judi told the Mirror. "He also places a confident and controlling hand onto Noel's shoulder, raising his maracas in the air in what looks like a V sign to signal victory." The expert also pointed out a moment where Noel took a moment to take everything in while performing Half The World Away. Judi explained: "He looks like a man holding his breath like the rest of the fans in the hope that the sibling bonds hold firm this time and they get through their tour in a state of (almost) total harmony." Noel's 25-year-old daughter Anais was in the crowds as she rocked out to her uncle and dad's numerous hit tracks. She posted a photo of herself having a smashing time with a pint in her hand and donning a blue Oasis shirt. The model and photographer captioned the photo: "It's good to be back." Noel Gallagher's ex-wife Meg Matthews spotted at Oasis comeback gig Anais' mother Meg Mathews, who was married to Noel from 1997 until 2001, was also present at the concert. One person who made sure they were there was Noel's ex-wife Meg. The socialite has been a big supporter of Oasis' comeback, so she was there to show her support on the tour's first night. A source told The Mirror: "After posting about her ex-husband for weeks, Meg Mathews had a prime seat for watching the band. "She was in great spirits before the set, watching Richard Ashcroft with pals." However, after Oasis' two hour set the band came back with a three song encore which included Don't Look Back In Anger, Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova. The Mirror reports that it was at this moment Meg decided to "walk out" and leave the gig. Hardcore fans will remember that Noel actually wrote Wonderwall for Meg, when they were together. Tamara Ecclestone's daughter Fifi, 11, poses in heels and mini dress with full face of glam - after heiress was criticised for allowing her children to wear heavy make-up
Tamara Ecclestone has shared an image of her eldest daughter Sophia - also known as Fifi - on Instagram on Saturday posing in heels and a mini dress, sporting a full face of make-up. The 41-year-old daughter of Formula One founder Bernie Ecclestone posted a photo of her 11-year-old dressed up as pop star Sabrina Carpenter - after fans previously criticised Tamara for allowing her children to wear heavy make-up. The millionaire heiress shared the photos with popular song Busy Woman playing in the background. Fifi wore a Sabrina-inspired black mini dress featuring a jewelled heart cut-out, which she paired with knee-high black heeled platforms. Her youngest had her hair in a bouncy blow-dry, complete with a full face of make-up and stuck up a peace sign for the camera. Tamara divided her fans last year after she shared snaps of Fifi sporting a pair of £900 Prada loafers outside a pink stretch limousine. Taking to Instagram at the time, Tamara shared before and after photos of her young daughter and a friend getting ready to go out. But the snaps raised eyebrows as people criticised Tamara for letting her daughter wear a full face of make-up. She also shared another picture of the girls where Fifi was seen carrying a tote bag which read: 'F*** it, it's fine' - an Olivia Rodrigo lyric after the youngsters saw her in concert the week before. In the snaps, Fifi could be seen wearing a black skater skirt with a lipstick t-shirt saying 'Bad idea, right' - another Rodrigo lyric - as well as a £920 pair of black patent Prada loafers. While in another, the girls could be seen tracksuits before changing into their going-out outfits, with their make-up already done. Followers of Tamara were quick to raise their concerns over the amount of make-up Fifi and her friend were wearing. Taking to the comment section of the post, they wrote: 'They're so young and small and so covered in makeup that you're making them both look like adult "little people"! What the matter with you?'; 'She's ten and she has make up in every single picture,'; 'Please let them stay as children this is far too young,'; 'Why are you allowing them to wear makeup and look like mini adults??'; 'Dressed up as 20 year olds?'; 'Sorry but why are you speeding up their childhood so fast those clothes and make up can be worn the rest of their life but never ever will be the child again.' 'Let them be children. Take the false nails off and the make up.' But other fans jumped to Tamara's defence, saying that 'make-up police' needed to 'pipe down' and let the girls have fun. They said: 'All little girls want to look grown up little bit of makeup just fun for them they look lovely,'; 'They look so cute. Ignore the make-up police. If they had face paint at the local fair no one would bat an eyelid. All little girls love all this,'; 'Oh god will all the winers just stop!! All little girls want to have make up on. So what if you don't approve, it's not your child keep your comments to yourself. It's not like he goes to school with a face full of make-up. Let them have fun!!'
