‘Modern Family's' Ariel Winter speaks on suffering trauma in Hollywood as a child star
'I am familiar with male predators because I worked in Hollywood at a young age. I started at age 4,' Winter told DailyMail.com. 'I don't wanna say too much about it, but by the time I was on a laptop and cell phone, I was getting inappropriate messages from older men, and it caused trauma.'
She added, 'The experiences I had in person and online as a child have affected me so deeply that I've had to go to therapy for it. The movie and TV industry is a dark place.'
Winter, known for her role as Alex Dunphy on Modern Family, has turned her experiences into purpose by working with SOSA, an organisation that conducts sting operations against online predators by using women posing as young decoys.
'Seeing SOSA's work impacted me deeply because I was that kid so many times over that was preyed upon in person online,' she said. 'I don't want to say there's a solution, but I would love to help take some of these people off the streets.'
With the encouragement of her boyfriend, Luke Benward, Winter has joined undercover missions with SOSA, describing the experience as 'nerve-racking' and 'very serious'.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson says gay fans gave him the harshest heat over his ‘Modern Family' role, 'Guilty as charged'
Jesse Tyler Ferguson is reflecting on some unexpected backlash he received while portraying Mitchell Pritchett on Modern Family, and it didn't come from conservatives or critics, but from members of the LGBTQ+ community. On the latest episode of his podcast Dinner's On Me, Ferguson sat down with British actor Russell Tovey and discussed how some of the 'loudest' criticism during his time on the hit ABC sitcom came from gay viewers themselves. 'One of the pressures I've always felt… was that I received criticism, as you do with anything,' he shared. 'But the criticism that I think I heard the loudest was always from the gay community.' Ferguson said he was often told he didn't fully reflect people's expectations of what a gay man or relationship should look like on screen. 'Which I always took with a grain of salt,' he explained. 'I'm representing one person. I'm in charge of this one character. How can you be everything for everyone?' He added that Mitchell was, in many ways, a reflection of himself, 'If it's stereotypical, I'm basically playing myself… so I guess, guilty as charged.' Ferguson played Mitchell - a mild-mannered lawyer married to the flamboyant Cameron Tucker (Eric Stonestreet) - for all 11 seasons of Modern Family. He earned five Emmy nominations for the role. In real life, Ferguson has been married to lawyer Justin Mikita since 2013. The couple are parents to two young sons. Despite the criticism, Ferguson expressed pride in his work on the show and acknowledged the broader impact of the role, 'It meant a lot to people, just not everyone.'

‘Modern Family' star Julie Bowen reveals she has lived with a heart condition since age 29
Modern Family star Julie Bowen has revealed that she has been living with a pacemaker since she was just 29 due to a heart condition causing her heart rate to drop very low. 'I do have a pacemaker,' the 55-year-old actress said during her appearance on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast on July 1, adding that she often forgets it is even there. Bowen shared that she was diagnosed with sick sinus syndrome, also known as Hypervagotonia, which leads to 'persistent vagal overactivity' and sinus node dysfunction. This means her heart rate would drop dangerously low. The actress explained that her pacemaker is set to alert her if her heart rate falls below 45 beats per minute. For comparison, the typical resting heart rate for women is between 60 and 100 beats per minute. Bowen credited her sister, then a medical student, with noticing something was wrong while on holiday after listening to her heartbeat with a stethoscope. Initially, Bowen believed her low heart rate was due to her history as a competitive runner. However, she later sought medical advice and received her pacemaker shortly after filming the pilot of Ed. Reflecting on the moment, Bowen said, 'I was like 'Oh my god, my life is over. This is so weird, I'm going to die.'' Although doctors reassured her that the condition would not be fatal, Bowen had been experiencing frequent fainting spells, describing a 'vague feeling' of lightheadedness while relaxing. 'They said, 'You're going to be driving a car and you're going to pass out and you're going to kill somebody,'' Bowen shared. 'And I was like 'Oh, well then give me the goddamn pacemaker.''
