Trick Williams just won the TNA world title at NXT Battleground

Yahoo28-05-2025
Who would have ever thought a day would come that a show promoted by WWE would be headlined not just by a current TNA World Champion but that the match itself would be for said TNA world championship? That came to be at tonight's (Sun., May 25, 2025) Battleground premium live event at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida, when the face of TNA, Joe Hendry, put his title on the line against one of the top stars in all of NXT, Trick Williams.
It was a Joe Hendry match, so they worked the gimmick to death:

But we also got Trick having fun with Booker T's old gimmick:
Late in the match, Williams brought the TNA world title into the ring, though he didn't intentionally use it as a weapon himself, thanks to the referee, so he didn't get disqualified. However, it did end up on the mat and he dropped Hendry right on top of it. The ref didn't DQ him for that either, and a follow up Trick Shot was enough to earn the three count.
We have a new TNA world champion, and he is an NXT star.
How about that finish?

Brooke Hogan slams 'media convoluting the narrative' in tribute to dad Hulk Hogan

Brooke Hogan Oleksy is paying tribute to her dad Hulk Hogan after his death – and clarifying rumors surrounding their relationship and rift. The "Hogan Knows Best" star, 37, took to Instagram in a post Tuesday, July 29, to address speculation about their father-daughter bond. "My dad's blood runs through my veins. His eyes shine through my children. And our bond has never broken, not even in his final moments," the mom of two wrote. "We had a connection deeper than words, one that spanned lifetimes." Oleksy shares twins, born this January, with her former pro hockey player husband Steven Oleksy. She first revealed in March she has "completely separate reasons for going no contact with each of my parents," citing verbal and mental abuse. A post shared by Brooke Oleksy (@mizzhogan) WWE icon Hogan died last week at 71 in Clearwater, Florida. In a statement, the entertainment company called him "one of pop culture's most recognizable figures" and said he "helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s." WWE honors Hulk Hogan with another tribute on Monday Night Raw But in her note, the ex-pop singer slammed the headlines, writing that the "media has been convoluting the narrative." Instead of a major falling out, Oleksy said she wanted to be a "life raft" for him after years of wrestling took a toll on his body. "We never had a 'big fight.' My father and I never 'fought.' It was a series of private phone calls no one will ever hear, know, or understand," Oleksy wrote. "My father was confiding in me about issues weighing on his heart, both personal and business." However, despite moving closer to him in Florida, Oleksy said she "wanted to be there" for her dad "as much as possible" through almost 25 surgeries, but "then all of a sudden he didn't want me at surgeries." "Everything started getting covered in a thick veil," Oleksy wrote. "It was like there was a force field around him that I couldn't get through." Hulk Hogan, WWE Hall of Famer and wrestling legend, dies at 71 The VH1 reality show "Hogan Knows Best" followed the Hogan family's chaotic personal and professional life as a teenaged Oleksy had high hopes of music superstardom. The show aired for two seasons from 2005 to 2007, and Oleksy landed the spinoff "Brooke Knows Best" a year later, which also lasted two seasons. Oleksy wrote in her July 29 note she "had to step away to protect my heart" over the past two years, but her "husband stayed open, quietly reaching out to my dad without me knowing, trying to find a safe way back in for me." She continued, telling fans that "after my father passed, I read those messages, some answered, some ignored ... but all of them broke my heart." A post shared by Brooke Oleksy (@mizzhogan) In a separate post, Oleksy wrote a note to her "dearest daddy," calling the former pro wrestler her "everything." "I will always be your girl," Oleksy said. "I am PROUD to be your daughter—for all the love, light, and goodness you brought into this world. Thank you for choosing me in this lifetime, and for loving me so deeply." Contributing: Jordan Mendoza

Hulk Hogan 'paved the way for us to do what we love,' WWE star Alexa Bliss says

The pro wrestling world was stunned to learn that Hulk Hogan died at the age of 71 after suffering a potential cardiac arrest at his home in Florida. Hogan left a lasting legacy on WWE and the industry in general, helping to elevate it into the upper echelon of pop culture and sports entertainment. WWE paid tribute to Hogan with a 10-bell salute and a video montage showing his career in the ring. Alexa Bliss, ahead of her tag-team match with Charlotte Flair at SummerSlam, spoke to Fox News Digital about Hogan's impact on pro wrestling. "He obviously paved the way for what we do, and because of the impact that he's had on WWE, we're now able to do these huge shows," she said. "We're having a two-day SummerSlam. It's the first-time ever we're having a two-day SummerSlam. When you talk about WWE, one of the first names people talk about is Hulk Hogan. "I had a moment with him at WrestleMania when I was hosting. He came out, and we did a surprise entrance and did the flex thing, and it was a lot of fun. He's made such an impact on our business — it's undeniable." Bliss, whose real name is Alexis Kaufman, recalled her husband — singer Ryan Cabrera — showing off the Hogan video he captured at WrestleMania 35. Little did he know, Bliss was hosting the event and brought out Hogan. "My husband had a video of that WrestleMania of me and Hulk Hogan at the entrance, not knowing it was me with him," she recalled. "He goes, 'Oh, I have this really cool video of Hulk Hogan because I went to this WrestleMania once.' I was like, 'Yeah, that's me.' And he was like, 'Wait, what? That's not you.' And I go, 'Yeah, that blonde right there, posing with Hulk Hogan…' He goes, 'No, it's a video of Hulk Hogan.' And I go, 'Right, but the person right next to him, that's me.' I was like, 'You have a video of Hulk Hogan and your future wife on that video.' I always thought that was kinda cool." Ultimately, Bliss tipped her hat to how Hogan paved the way for her and others in the business. "But obviously, yeah, it's super sad. Condolences to his family. He was such a big personality and a big character in our world, and he paved the way for us to do what we love." Bliss and Flair will compete for the tag-team titles against Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez at SummerSlam. The premium live event will take place Saturday and Sunday.
