New bridge linking Pulau Tuba and Pulau Dayang Bunting in procurement phase
Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan confirmed the development, highlighting the project's significance for local communities.
The federal initiative, approved under the 12th Malaysia Plan Rolling Plan 3, aims to replace the existing narrow one-lane bridge, which currently allows only a single four-wheel drive vehicle at a time.
The new structure will span Selat Bagan Nyior, enhancing mobility and access regardless of weather conditions.
'The bridge will be 1.04 kilometres long, comprising a 0.38 km bridge and a 0.66 km road, designed to Public Works Department R1 specifications with two lanes,' said Ahmad Maslan.
He emphasised its role in boosting socioeconomic development and improving living standards for residents.
During a site visit, the minister urged all stakeholders, including contractors and project teams, to collaborate closely to ensure timely and cost-effective completion. - Bernama

Ahmad Zahid stressed that Visit Malaysia 2026 will further elevate the industry, making tourism a key driver of sustainability and inclusivity. Strategic collaborations with international partners are already underway. Ahmad Zahid noted recent discussions in London with trade leaders and airline representatives to boost UK tourist arrivals from 390,000 to 500,000. Last year, UK travellers contributed over RM2.5 billion, with potential to exceed RM3.3 billion with targeted efforts. Malaysia's reputation as a Muslim-friendly destination remains strong, ranking fifth globally and consistently performing well in the Global Islamic Economy Indicator. ASEAN boosts local currency trade for financial stability, says PM Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR: ASEAN is reforming its trade practices by increasing the use of local currencies among member nations to build a more stable financial system free from unilateral dominance, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced. Speaking at the BRICS Business Forum in Rio de Janeiro, Anwar emphasised that while full de-dollarisation remains distant, ASEAN nations—including Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and China—have begun adopting local currencies for trade. Bank Muamalat Advances Islamic Finance To Drive Socioeconomic Growth In Sabah
TAWAU, July 5 (Bernama) -- Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad is advancing Islamic finance to drive socioeconomic development through various social finance initiatives, said its president and chief executive officer, Khairul Kamarudin. These initiatives include presenting participation certificates to 16 selected micro-entrepreneurs under the iTEKAD Bank Muamalat Sabah programme, signing a memorandum of understanding with the Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (AKPK), and launching the Jariah Fund 'Pek Ikhlas Sabahan' crowdfunding campaign in collaboration with Yayasan Ikhlas. 'In Sabah, 16 micro-entrepreneurs from the B40 and asnaf groups have been selected as the inaugural iTEKAD participants. They will receive up to RM10,000 in microfinancing and grants, fully sponsored entrepreneurship training and six months of intensive mentoring,' he said in a statement to Bernama issued in conjunction with the Financial Literacy Carnival 2025 at Eastern Plaza today.
