Fundraiser started after 5-vehicle crash ‘totaled' family's only car
The crash occurred on Wednesday, June 4, near the 600 block of West 29th Street. According to a San Angelo Police Department officer at the scene, the collision happened after a white Chevrolet Suburban traveling westbound on 29th Street crashed into a silver Nissan Sentra that was traveling eastbound on the same street.
The Suburban then left the roadway, striking a blue Chevy Colorado before continuing into a parking lot just outside of a nearby Cato Fashions store located in a strip mall. The vehicle then struck a silver Dodge Challenger, which in turn was pushed into a dark gray Dodge Challenger.
The SAPD told a Concho Valley Homepage reporter that the driver of the Suburban may have suffered a medical complication while driving, causing the crash. The motorist was transported to the hospital.

The fundraiser's webpage states that the family of four's sole car was 'wrecked and left totaled' due to the incident. Johnny Guinan, the fundraiser's organizer, said he now owes $15,000 despite the car's estimated value being 'only $5,000.'
Worsening matters for the family is their financial situation before the five-vehicle crash. Guinan stated on the webpage that an injury caused by a crash that occurred approximately one year ago has 'drained' the family's savings and forced him to switch jobs.
'We are just asking for some help getting a new car or getting ours fixed; any little bit helps,' the GoFundMe reads.
As of the time of publication, the fundraiser has garnered $25 for the family. To visit the GoFundMe webpage, click here.

Family calls for justice after father killed in boat crash with allegedly intoxicated San Bernardino County deputy
Family members of the man who was killed during a boat crash with an allegedly intoxicated San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department deputy are calling for justice. La Verne father of two Weston Stewart, 38, died after his boat collided with another boat on the Colorado River, just south of the Needles bridge in Needles, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. "On our way back home we got the call from my nephew Jeremiah saying that his dad's dead," said Peyton Stewart, the victim's brother. "He's just crying and screaming on the phone." That second boat was allegedly being driven by Bruce Southworth, an off-duty SBSD deputy who was arrested and booked for negligent use of a watercraft while intoxicated causing injury following the crash. He has since been placed on administrative leave and department investigators say that the criminal investigation will be submitted to the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office for filing. Stewart's family members are concerned about the fairness of that investigation, given that Southworth is not only a deputy, but one of six local first responders who were nationally recognized in 2018 for their response to the San Bernardino workplace terror attack in 2015. "I don't take any enjoyment in his peril, but at the same time, he killed my brother, you know?" Peyton Stewart said. "We think he will get preferential treatment." He says that some witnesses told him Southworth was driving recklessly prior to the crash and that people were telling him to slow down. "You just hope it's not a conflict of interest where they have better intentions for one party versus the other," said Samantha Stewart, Weston's sister-in-law. "We'll never got Weston back." They remember him as a man with a personality and heart larger than life who spent most of his time on the water. As the investigation continues and they begin to wade through the difficulties of their loss, friends have started a GoFundMe to help Weston's sons. It can be found by searching for the key words: Help Weston's Sons Through This Tragedy.

Death of 9-year-old girl who drowned at Hersheypark ruled an accident
A Pennsylvania coroner has ruled a 9-year-old girl's drowning death at Hersheypark earlier in July an accident. "The cause of death was fresh water drowning and the manner of death was accidental," the Dauphin County coroner said in a statement, noting the child, identified by family as Sophia Subedi, did not have a medical event that led to her death. The incident occurred on Thursday, July 24 at the Boardwalk, a park attraction featuring water slides, a lazy river and a 387,000-gallon wave pool. Lifeguards responded to girl in distress There were 100 lifeguards at the Boardwalk at the time, the park said in a news release, including 10 lifeguards tasked with watching over the wave pool. Lifeguards, first responders and medics noticed the girl was in distress and began performing life-saving measures, the company's CEO, John Lawn, said in a written statement. A witness at the scene told WGAL one of the lifeguards attempted CPR on her while staff members tried to conceal the traumatic incident from parkgoers. The girl was taken to Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, where she was pronounced deceased. It is the first confirmed guest fatality in the park's 118-year history. Girl remembered as 'kind and loving' A member of the Bhutanese Community in Harrisburg, the organization said she will be remembered as "a bright, kind and loving young girl," according to a Facebook post published Monday, July 28. "Sophia brought joy and light to everyone who knew her," the group's statement said. "Her sudden loss has left our entire community in grief." The child had been living in Harrisburg since 2022 and had recently completed the third grade. Her family moved to the area from Ohio, where she was born in 2016. Her funeral service is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 30 at the Jesse H Geigle Funeral Home in Harrisburg, the group's statement said. GoFundMe set up to help family A GoFundMe page has been started to help the girl's family with funeral expenses. As of the afternoon of July 29, it has raised over $21,000 out of a $30,000 goal. Additionally, her family has said they would like to put some of the funds toward creating a meaningful tribute. Sophia had dreams of becoming a teacher and loved reading, music and painting, the page states. "We hope to turn this loss into a legacy — perhaps by supporting children's safety initiatives, advocating for awareness, or creating a small space in her name where kids and families can feel safe, loved and connected," the GoFundMe states.

Dad ‘with big dreams' shot dead trying to stop suspected thief, GA family says
A father of three was fatally shot while chasing a suspected thief, his family said. Now, Georgia police are searching for his killer. Officers were called around 3:15 p.m. Saturday, July 25, about a shooting outside DeKalb County Fire Station 7 in Decatur, according to the DeKalb County Police Department. They found Derek Cummings, 32, who was shot and later died from his injuries. Family members said Cummings was doing yard work at a nearby business when someone stole lawn equipment from his truck, WSB-TV and WAGA reported. Following the suspected thief in his truck, the chase ended at the fire station, where Cummings was shot, relatives told WAGA. The family said the suspected thief took off in his truck. Authorities said they're investigating the 'possibility of a fight elsewhere' that led to the deadly shooting. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday, July 29. Cummings' family described him as a 'young man with big dreams ... and a heart full of love.' 'He was only trying to build a better life,' his mother, Sharon Jennings, wrote on a GoFundMe started by the family. 'He took pride in his work and even more pride in being a new dad. He couldn't stop talking about his baby boy.' He is survived by his fiancée and three kids, including a newborn, WSB-TV reported. 'He loved his kids,' Cummings's fiancée, Jennifer Leriche, told WAGA 'They took him too early. He was a good person.' Anyone with information on the shooting is asked contact the DeKalb County Police Department, or submit an anonymous tip by texting 'DKPD' to 847411, police said. Decatur is about a 10-mile drive northeast from downtown Atlanta.
