BRICS+ Information and Cultural Media Centre marks anniversary of BRICS creation
The event, held at the BRICS+ Information and Cultural Media Centre, was timed to coincide with the anniversary of the inaugural BRICS summit in Yekaterinburg on 16 June 2009.
A roundtable discussion titled 'BRICS Dialogue: Multilateral Cooperation as the Basis for a Multipolar World' was opened by Sergey Ryabkov, Russia's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and the country's BRICS Sherpa. He said one of the key tasks at the current stage is integrating new members and partners into the group's existing cooperation mechanisms, adding that the role of BRICS as a 'centre of global gravity' will continue to grow.
'We are very pleased that Arab nations have joined BRICS in recent times and that African representation has expanded. We are seeing a strong Eurasian component within BRICS,' Ryabkov said. 'Latin America – particularly during Brazil'spresidency – is asserting itself actively, especially through the highly modern agenda proposed by the Brazilians. We support them and are confident the summit in Rio de Janeiro will deliver positive outcomes.'
The event was held at the All-Russian State Library for Foreign Literature and co-organised by TV BRICS. Other speakers represented the Aleksander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, the Institute of Asian and African Studies at Lomonosov Moscow State University, and the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts – GITIS, among other institutions.
Janna Tolstikova, CEO of TV BRICS, described the BRICS+ Information and Cultural Media Centre as a platform for shaping the humanitarian agenda of the association. Marina Zakharenko, Director General of the library, added that the institution provides extensive opportunities for projects related to the cultures of member countries.
Experts at the event highlighted its role in fostering academic dialogue. Evgeny Kapoguzov, Head of the Research and Training Laboratory for the Study of BRICS Economies at Moscow State University, stated that such meetings enable experts to exchange ideas and identify common ground.
'It provides a basis for dialogue, for identifying closer points of cooperation – in exchange programmes, educational initiatives, and partnerships between BRICS+ libraries,' the expert noted.
The event concluded with a cultural programme featuring music, poetry, and dance from BRICS countries performed by the group 'The Foreigners'.
The BRICS+ Information and Cultural Media Centre was established in October 2024 by the Library for Foreign Literature in partnership with TV BRICS to promote humanitarian cooperation, culture, science, and education across the member countries.

Chechen Leader Ramzan Kadyrov Rescued from Drowning in Turkish Resort
Taarek Refaat Ramzan Kadyrov, the controversial leader of Russia's Chechen Republic, was rescued from a near-drowning incident while vacationing at a luxury resort on Turkey's Aegean coast, according to a report by European broadcaster Euronews on Friday. The incident occurred at a five-star hotel in the Kainar area of Bodrum, a popular destination in Muğla Province. Kadyrov, 48, reportedly lost consciousness shortly after entering the water for a swim. Turkish media outlets said members of the Turkish Coast Guard, along with hotel staff, quickly noticed Kadyrov's distress and rushed to his aid. Emergency first aid was administered on-site before he was transported to a private clinic nearby. OPEN// FM: Egyptian economy has promising investment chances
CAIRO/BAMAKO, July 24 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdelatty affirmed that the Egyptian economy—being one of the largest economies in the African continent—possesses promising investment opportunities and extensive cumulative expertise in implementing strategic projects in sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, energy, dams, pharmaceuticals, and telecommunications. He also highlighted the significant progress Egypt has achieved in both industrial and service sectors. Abdelatty's remarks came while inaugurating the Egypt-Mali Business Forum on Thursday in Mali's capital, Bamako. A high-level Egyptian delegation of 30 business leaders, CEOs, and representatives of major Egyptian companies across various fields participated in the forum. In his opening speech, Abdelatty said the forum marks a new and important milestone in strengthening economic and trade partnerships between Egypt and Mali. He emphasized that it opens unprecedented opportunities for the private sectors in both countries to develop partnerships based on integration and trust, in line with the depth of historical ties and the economic potential of both nations. The foreign minister stressed that Egypt-Mali relations are currently witnessing unprecedented momentum and that the forum serves as a significant starting point for boosting trade exchange, encouraging industrial and investment partnerships, and enhancing cooperation between the business communities of both countries. He described the forum as a practical first step toward strengthening institutional cooperation. He pointed out to joint efforts that have led to the formation of an economic working group, as well as ongoing efforts to establish an Egypt-Mali Business Council to activate cooperation opportunities across various sectors. He expressed Egypt's sincere desire to expand its investments in the Republic of Mali, especially in sectors prioritized by the Malian government, such as textiles, wood products, and pharmaceuticals. For his part, Mali's Minister of Industry and Trade Moussa Alassane Diallo emphasized the special importance that the Malian government places on enhancing cooperation with Egypt. He praised Egypt's vast expertise in supporting development across Africa. He also expressed Mali's aspiration to benefit from Egypt's pioneering experience in several key sectors.
