Narendra Modi-led Centre adopting a holistic and inclusive approach in addressing public health issues: Amit Shah
Speaking after inaugurating the Bengaluru campus of Adichunchanagiri University and BGS Medical College and Hospital in Bengaluru North Taluk, Mr. Shah said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for the health sector has significantly benefited the people, especially the marginalised and weaker sections of society.
High cost of treatment
'The Prime Minister had said in Gujarat 26 years ago that the main challenge faced by the poor is illness and the high cost of treatment. The administration has to make healthcare accessible to the poor. I can say with pride today that after becoming the Prime Minister, Mr. Modi fulfilled this promise by providing 60 crore people from the poor and weaker sections of society with free medical treatment of up to ₹5 lakh under the Ayushman Bharat scheme,' Mr. Shah said, adding that health has been addressed holistically.
'While toilets for 12 crore households have been built, the Fit India Movement was launched to inculcate a healthy lifestyle among people. Various other initiatives such as International Yoga Day, Mission Indradhanush to provide free vaccinations and Poshan Abhiyan to provide care for mothers and children were introduced. Through the promotion of generic medicines, people are now able to buy medicines at just 20% of their original cost at 15,000 outlets,' he said.
The Union Minister pointed out that the number of All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have grown from seven in 2014 to 23 now and medical colleges from 387 to 780 in the country. MBBS seats have increased from 51,000 to 1.80 lakh, and postgraduate medical seats from 31,000 to 74,000. 'This means 1.18 lakh new MBBS doctors and 74,000 postgraduate doctors are graduating every year, compared to just 50,000 earlier,' he noted.
State's medical education
Karnataka's Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil said the State has the highest number of Medical Education seats in the country. 'There are 70 medical colleges in the State, including 24 government colleges,' he said.
'Allowing private participation in Medical Education was a landmark decision. By establishing engineering colleges, we created an ecosystem that helped Bengaluru emerge as the IT capital. However, there is still a shortage of doctors. Around 24 lakh students appear for NEET each year, competing for only one lakh seats,' he said. 'India must promote the establishment of more medical colleges, and I have conveyed this to Mr. Amit Shah.'
Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy, Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti V. Somanna, Nirmalanandanatha Mahaswamiji of the Adichunchanagiri Math apart from other politicians and seers were present.

Dharwad: Steps will be taken to extend the Puneeth Rajkumar Hrudaya Jyoti scheme, which is one of the most successful programmes of the health department, to all taluk hospitals in the state, said health minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. Chairing a meeting of the health officials from districts under Belagavi division here on Tuesday, he said there has been no increase in the number of deaths due to heart attack. He said the govt has taken steps to upgrade 10-bed hospitals in nine taluks of the state to 30-bed hospitals and develop them into community health centres. This includes Alnavar and Annigeri hospitals in Dharwad district, and the work will begin from Nov, the minister said. "The health department is not working to protect the interests of any individuals, but is working transparently for the health of the community. For the first time, more than 5,000 doctors and staff in the department have been transferred through counseling," Rao said, and advised everyone to perform their duties well in public interest. Rao clarified that as of now, there is no plan to shift the Dharwad Civil Hospital to another location. Funds have already been provided for the necessary equipment and repairs of the hospital. "The Gruha Arogya Yojana, which was launched in June, has been launched in every district and taluk, " he said . Recruitment of docs The minister said a notification will be issued this year inviting applications for 2,000 posts of MBBS doctors and specialist doctors. Vacant posts in all govt hospitals will be filled by next month, he added.

Anti-fraud dashboard to monitor Ayushman Bharat claims
Patna: State health minister Mangal Pandey on Wednesday inaugurated the State Anti-fraud Unit Dashboard for monitoring Ayushman Bharat scheme claims. Pandey said this system will set a new precedent in ensuring effective control over corruption in the state. This system has been jointly developed by Bihar Swastha Suraksha Samiti and Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI). "This dashboard is a significant step from a technological perspective, establishing a robust framework for transparency, accountability, and monitoring in health services. It will bring transparency in the claim processing under the Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana, and will effectively curb fraudulent billing by hospitals," the health minister said, adding any false claims made by hospitals can now be factually prevented, and the genuine ones can be settled in a timely manner. "This system will also aid in ensuring timely payments to hospitals and prompt services beneficiaries. Member secretary of ADRI, Ashmita Gupta, updated those present at the inauguration with the work of geo-mapping of approximately 20,000 private healthcare units in Bihar.

Alnavar, Annigeri taluk hospitals to be upgraded with 30 beds
The government hospitals in Alnavar and Annigeri taluks of Dharwad district will be upgraded as 30-bed hospitals and converted into community health centres, Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has said. Chairing a review meeting of officials of Belagavi division in Dharwad on Tuesday, Mr. Gundu Rao said that the government has taken steps to upgrade 10-bed hospitals in nine taluks to 30-bed hospitals and Alnavar and Annigeri are among them. The work on the upgradation will begin in November, he said. Emphasising that the department is working transparently for protecting the health of the community, the Minister said that for the first time, over 5,000 doctors and staff of the department have been transferred through counselling. Mr. Gundu Rao said that steps are being taken to extend Puneet Rajkumar Hridayajyoti Scheme to all taluk hospitals in the State. He clarified that there has been no increase in the number of deaths due to heart attacks in the State. Referring to the higher rate of maternal mortality in Dharwad and Belagavi districts, he asked the officials to initiate steps to reduce it. 'In the first quarter of this year, 17 maternal deaths have been reported in Dharwad district and 15 in Belagavi district. Caution must be exercised during childbirth and post-natal care of mothers. Pregnant women should be given guidance on pre-natal and post-natal healthcare,' he said. He also clarified that there is no immediate proposal to shift Dharwad Civil Hospital to another location, while the necessary funds have already been provided for medical equipment and for carrying out repairs at the hospital. The Health Minister said that steps have been taken for recruitment of doctors and a notification will be issued during the year inviting applications for 2,000 posts of MBBS doctors and specialists. This part, vacant posts in all government hospitals will be filled next month, he added.
