Lorry driver claims trial to sexual assaulting 12-year-old daughter
The accused pleaded not guilty to all charges after they were read to him before judge Surita Budin.
For the first charge, he was accused of committing the offence against the victim at a house in Port Dickson around 9pm in February this year.
For the second and third charges, he allegedly sexually assaulted the victim twice around 9pm on May 16 at the same place and time.
He was charged under sections 14(a) and 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 read together with sections 16 and 16(1) of the same legislation.
Offenders can be jailed up to 20 years and whipped upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Balkis Zunanid then told the court that her team was not offering the accused any bail.
However, she said if the court were to allow it, the amount offered should be set at RM50,000 for each charge.
Nurul Balkis said the accused should also report to the nearest police station once every month until the case is disposed of, to stay away from the victim and witnesses and to surrender his passport to the court.
In pleading for bail, defence lawyer V Segaran said the accused no longer lived in the same house with the accused and that he was not a flight risk as he had surrendered to the police upon receiving news that he was wanted by them.
He said the accused only earned about RM3,000 a month, had a family to provide for and would be bailed by his brother-in-law.
Judge Surita then fixed bail at RM10,000 for each charge and allowed the other applications by the prosecution.
The court fixed Aug 15 for remention.

MMEA seizes RM900,000 worth of cannabis in Kuala Perlis
KANGAR: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) in the Kuala Perlis Maritime Zone foiled an attempt to smuggle 170 kilogrammes of compressed cannabis worth nearly RM900,000 in Kuala Perlis waters early today. Kedah and Perlis MMEA director First Admiral Romli Mustafa said the cannabis seizure from a wooden engine-powered boat at around 3.30 am was the result of intelligence gathered by the Kuala Perlis Maritime Zone intelligence unit and continuous patrolling under Op AMAN over the past few days. 'A maritime patrol boat spotted an unregistered wooden vessel about 0.3 nautical miles west of Pulau Ketam using night vision binoculars. 'When the wooden vessel spotted the patrol boat, it changed course toward a mangrove swamp in an attempt to evade capture but was intercepted. One suspect jumped into the sea and swam toward the mangroves to escape,' he told a press conference. Romli said a further check of the boat revealed eight multicoloured gunny sacks containing 157 blocks of compressed dry leaves suspected to be cannabis, wrapped in clear plastic and packaging bearing foreign writing, concealed beneath fishing nets to avoid detection. He said the syndicate's modus operandi involved posing as local fishermen and infiltrating national waters under the cover of darkness to evade authorities. Some local fishermen are also suspected of being involved in these smuggling activities. 'The syndicate was found to be using unregistered wooden boats, likely from a neighbouring country, transferring the drugs to locally operated long-tail engine boats to bring them to shore,' he said. Romli said the amount of cannabis seized could have supplied over 30,000 addicts. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1952.

Company director detained for RM75m money laundering in fibre project
PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has secured a four-day remand order against a company director with the title 'Datuk' for suspected money laundering involving RM75 million. The case is tied to a fibre network development project. Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin granted the remand until July 6 following the suspect's arrest at the MACC headquarters yesterday. The man, in his 50s, is accused of channelling funds from a RM400 million loan to his own company in 2012. A MACC source revealed that the arrest followed Op Fibre, a special operation conducted on June 30. Raids at four locations in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur led to the freezing of 12 bank accounts worth RM400,000. Senior Director Datuk Mohamad Zamri Zainul Abidin confirmed the case is being probed under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

Police open three investigation papers over Plus highway obstruction
REMBAU: Police have opened three investigation papers and arrested a man believed to be the owner of one of three vehicles involved in a recent traffic obstruction incident on the southbound stretch of the North-South Expressway (Plus), near the Pedas Linggi lay-by. Rembau district police chief Superintendent Hasani Hussain said the suspect, in his 50s, was arrested in the Seremban area at about 12.30am today. "We are still tracking down the remaining suspects, who are currently at large. "Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is a vehicle repossession agent. The group is believed to have briefly blocked the road while attempting to repossess a car. "They reportedly obstructed traffic for only a short duration," he said when contacted. Hasani said the case is being investigated under Section 279 of the Penal Code for negligent or reckless driving, which carries a maximum penalty of six months' imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction. The case is also being investigated under Section 341 of the Penal Code for wrongful obstruction of public passage, which provides for up to one month's jail, a fine of up to RM1,000, or both. Additionally, police have initiated a probe under Section 48 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing obstruction on the road. If convicted, offenders face a fine of between RM1,000 and RM5,000, and may have their driving licence suspended for up to 12 months. "Police take any form of disruption to traffic flow seriously. Such actions pose a danger to other road users, particularly on highways where vehicles travel at high speeds. "Not only are such acts unlawful, but they also have the potential to cause fatal accidents," he added.
