Grammys to split country album into two categories and revive album cover field
The 68th awards, scheduled for Feb. 1 at Crypto.com Arena, will now include prizes for album cover and traditional country album. The previous country album category has been renamed contemporary country album.
The award for album cover is not entirely new. The honor went to Frank Sinatra for 'Frank Sinatra Sings for Only the Lonely' during the first-ever ceremony in 1959. Over the years, visual presentation has been recognized in the packaging field under various names.
Additionally, the award for boxed or special edition limited package will be absorbed into recording package, which considers package design, photography and graphic art and materials.
The changes to the country category come after Beyoncé won country album and album of the year for the genre-bending 'Cowboy Carter.' Following her performance at Stagecoach, alternative pop artist Lana Del Rey also plans to release a country album, though the release date has not been confirmed.
'Country music has evolved in a major way over the past decade, with traditional country experiencing a massive resurgence, growing in popularity and volume,' Recording Academy Chief Executive Harvey Mason Jr. said in a statement. 'Traditional country has a timeless, distinct sound that's inspired generations of musicians throughout the years. It's an important part of the country music story and deserves to be celebrated and recognized with intention.'
In addition to the category and field changes, the Recording Academy has amended the criteria for best new artist. Now, artists who have been nominated for album of the year, but whose contributions were below the 20% playing time threshold, will remain eligible for the award.
Music released between Aug. 31, 2024 and Aug. 30, 2025, will be eligible for the 2026 Grammy Awards — so Sabrina Carpenter's forthcoming 'Man's Best Friend,' due Aug. 29, narrowly makes the deadline. Nominations will be announced Nov. 7.

JAY-Z Shuts Down Paternity Claims, Calls Rymir Satterthwaite's Allegations 'Fabricated'
In newly filed court documents obtained by Us Weekly, JAY-Z is asking a federal judge to step in and shut down a lawsuit filed by 31-year-old Rymir Satterthwaite, who continues to allege that the Hip-Hop mogul is his biological father. Satterthwaite, who filed the latest complaint in May, accuses Jay of knowingly avoiding a paternity test and using his celebrity status to silence him. The lawsuit also alleges fraud, manipulation of the legal system, and a pattern of intimidation — claims JAY-Z's legal team flatly denies. In response, the Roc Nation founder — born Shawn Carter — called the lawsuit the latest chapter in what he describes as a 'decades-long harassment campaign' carried out by Satterthwaite. His lawyers noted that similar allegations have already been 'addressed and rejected' by multiple courts and that continued efforts to push the narrative have resulted in contempt orders. JAY-Z also told the court he only learned of the latest filing on June 3 and requested additional time to formally respond. His legal team claims an attempt to contact Satterthwaite's guardian to coordinate was met with hostility, stating that the phone call ended with her hanging up. Satterthwaite's lawsuit outlines claims that his late mother, Wanda Satterthwaite, had a relationship with JAY-Z in the 1990s. He says the rapper has gone to great lengths to avoid acknowledging his alleged paternity, including allegedly refusing DNA testing and pressuring the courts. Satterthwaite claims the years-long legal battle has caused him emotional distress, public embarrassment, and even health complications. The Philly native also alleges a violent threat against him in the form of a car shooting — an incident he believes was a message intended to silence him. Despite the serious nature of his allegations, he says he's not seeking back child support but rather damages for the toll the situation has taken on his life. The 55-year-old icon has remained largely silent on the matter over the years, though his legal team maintains there is no truth to Satterthwaite's claims. Beyoncé And Kendrick Lamar To Face-Off At 2025 Emmy Awards
Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar are competing for new additions to their respective lists of accolades after transforming sporting events into historical musical moments. The Houston singer's Beyoncé Bowl special is up for multiple 2025 Emmy Award categories, directly opposed to Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl LIX halftime show. Both performances will compete for Outstanding Choreography, Outstanding Variety Special (Live). Other nominees across either category include Doechii's 2025 Grammy Awards performance, the 2025 Oscars tribute to Quincy Jones, and the SNL50: The Anniversary Special. Queen Bey could also potentially win her first Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special and Outstanding Variety Special (Live) at the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards. Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl show is also nominated here; however, it is directed by Hamish Hamilton. The GNX performer could also potentially take Outstanding Music Direction. Beyoncé Bowl is also up for Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special. Notably, Charm La Donna is nominated for her choreography work in both Beyoncé Bowl and Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl LIX halftime show. Additional highlights across the nominees include Tramell Tillman earning a Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his standout role in Apple TV+'s Severance. If he wins, Tillman will become the first Black actor to take the category in the Television Academy's history to take the trophy Also making history is Ayo Edebiri is the first woman to be nominated in the same year for acting and directing in a comedy series for her work in The Bear. Beyoncé, as usual, is turning heads while on the road for her Cowboy Carter World Tour. With stunning outfits taking over our timelines every time she hits a new city, it's almost overwhelming how much work she and stylists Shiona Turini, Karen Langley, and Ty Hunter have put into the trek.
