Collin Sexton traded, will unite with another former Alabama basketball star

USA Today2 days ago
Former Alabama basketball star Collin Sexton is heading to his third NBA franchise.
The Utah Jazz on Sunday traded Sexton and a 2030 second-round draft pick to the Charlotte Hornets for center Jusuf Nurkic. ESPN's Shams Charania was the first to report the news.
Sexton is far and away Alabama's longest active player in the NBA. He was the eighth overall pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2018, ending a 10-year drought in which no other Crimson Tide player was taken in the NBA draft. Now 26, Sexton spent the past three seasons with Utah, averaging 18-plus points per game after his career-high 24.3 with the Cavs in 2020-21.
Sexton has one year and $19 million remaining on his current contract before hitting free agency next summer. It's the second time he's been traded; the Jazz acquired him in 2022 in the deal that sent Donovan Mitchell to Cleveland.
While at Alabama, Sexton in 2018 guided the Crimson Tide to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in six years. It was only Alabama's second tournament appearance since 2006.
Sexton will be joining a Charlotte team featuring 2023 No. 2 overall draft pick Brandon Miller, and leading scorer LaMelo Ball. Miller played in 27 games last year after suffering a season-ending wrist injury in January. He averaged 21 points and 4.9 rebounds in 34 minutes a night for the Hornets, who finished 19-63 overall last season.

Alabama basketball learns 2025 Players Era Festival opponents, draws wild start time

Alabama basketball will spend the final week in the month of November in Las Vegas at the Players Era Festival for the second year in a row. The first college basketball event driven solely by NIL launched last November with Alabama one of the initial eight teams to play across a week-long stay in Sin City over Thanksgiving Week. The plan was always for Alabama to return to Vegas in 2025, and on Tuesday the Crimson Tide learned two opponents they'll face in this year's Players Era Festival. Alabama will play Gonzaga on Nov. 24 and UNLV on Nov. 25. Dylan Burkhardt of first reported the news, later confirmed by multiple outlets. The Crimson Tide will play a third game later in the week in Las Vegas against a team yet to be determined before returning to Tuscaloosa to continue its nonconference schedule. Moreover, Alabama's scheduled start time for its matchup against UNLV on Nov. 25 is something of a wild one. The Tide and Rebels will tip off at 11 p.m. CT from Vegas. Alabama faces Gonzaga on Nov. 24 at 8:30 p.m. CT. A year ago, Alabama picked up a memorable 85-80 overtime win over Houston, plus a 95-90 victory over Rutgers in the Players Era Festival. The Tide lost the tournament's title game to Oregon, 83-81. The Players Era Festival has expanded from eight to 18 teams for 2025. Auburn, Tennessee, Kansas, Michigan and St. John's are among 11 new teams participating in this year's tournament. Adding Gonzaga and Rutgers to Alabama's already expansive nonconference schedule will make an even stronger case that Nate Oats has the single most difficult schedule in the nation in 2025-26. The Crimson Tide will also face St. John's, Purdue, Illinois, Arizona and Clemson in separate nonconference games before the SEC portion of the schedule tips off in January. How many points did Hannah Stuelke score for Team USA vs Puerto Rico?

As Team USA (3-0) played their third game in as many days in group play for the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup Monday night from Santiago, Chile, Iowa women's basketball star forward Hannah Stuelke had a very quiet performance in the Americans' third victory of the tournament. This time it was a relatively close 80-62 win over Puerto Rico (1-1). In the game, Stuelke scored four points on 1-for-1 shooting from the floor and 2-for-4 from the free-throw line. The senior Hawkeye forward also collected three rebounds and two assists to close out her 15:09 of playing time. Despite the low scoring impact, Stuelke finished the night with a +21 point differential and a +7 point efficiency when on the court for Team USA. The highlight of her night came early in the third quarter when TCU guard Olivia Miles delivered a pinpoint pass to a streaking Stuelke, who finished at the basket for an easy fast-break layup. Leading the team in scoring on Saturday was UCLA guard Gianna Kneepkens, who posted 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting. Stuelke and Team USA will play their fourth and final game of group play on Wednesday night at 1:10 p.m. CT against Mexico. The game can be streamed on Courtside 1891 through MAX.
