Alabama basketball learns 2025 Players Era Festival opponents, draws wild start time

USA Todaya day ago
Alabama basketball will spend the final week in the month of November in Las Vegas at the Players Era Festival for the second year in a row.
The first college basketball event driven solely by NIL launched last November with Alabama one of the initial eight teams to play across a week-long stay in Sin City over Thanksgiving Week.
The plan was always for Alabama to return to Vegas in 2025, and on Tuesday the Crimson Tide learned two opponents they'll face in this year's Players Era Festival. Alabama will play Gonzaga on Nov. 24 and UNLV on Nov. 25. Dylan Burkhardt of UMhoops.com first reported the news, later confirmed by multiple outlets.
The Crimson Tide will play a third game later in the week in Las Vegas against a team yet to be determined before returning to Tuscaloosa to continue its nonconference schedule.
Moreover, Alabama's scheduled start time for its matchup against UNLV on Nov. 25 is something of a wild one. The Tide and Rebels will tip off at 11 p.m. CT from Vegas. Alabama faces Gonzaga on Nov. 24 at 8:30 p.m. CT.
A year ago, Alabama picked up a memorable 85-80 overtime win over Houston, plus a 95-90 victory over Rutgers in the Players Era Festival. The Tide lost the tournament's title game to Oregon, 83-81.
The Players Era Festival has expanded from eight to 18 teams for 2025. Auburn, Tennessee, Kansas, Michigan and St. John's are among 11 new teams participating in this year's tournament.
Adding Gonzaga and Rutgers to Alabama's already expansive nonconference schedule will make an even stronger case that Nate Oats has the single most difficult schedule in the nation in 2025-26. The Crimson Tide will also face St. John's, Purdue, Illinois, Arizona and Clemson in separate nonconference games before the SEC portion of the schedule tips off in January.

Former USC 5-Star Sends Message After Finding New CFB Home

Former USC 5-Star Sends Message After Finding New CFB Home originally appeared on Athlon Sports. USC witnessed the high-profile decommit of five-star Xavier Griffin before the summer. The linebacker since then has officially found a new college football home. Advertisement The Georgia native ended his reopened recruiting chase on Sunday. This time choosing Alabama in a huge recruiting coup for the Crimson Tide. He's now the third five-star to choose the Tide and head coach Kalen DeBoer -- joining running back Ezavier Crowell and Jorden Edmonds. Griffin didn't take long to fire off his first message after choosing the Tide. And after ending his free agency period following the decommit from USC. Here's what he shared via Hayes Fawcett of On3. USC Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley. Jonathan Hui-Imagn Images "TGBTG (To God be the Glory). Roll Tide!!!" he posted after announcing his verbal pledge to the SEC powerhouse. Alabama's SEC rivals Texas (coached by former USC HC Steve Sarkisian), Florida State and Ohio State all were in the final running for Griffin. Griffin spoke highly of 'Bama even before he made his decision. Advertisement "Bama has been the most consistent and persistent team in recruitment from day one," he told Bama247 days before the decision. "Coach C(hristian) Rob(inson) has truly taken the time to build a great relationship with me and my family. That's something that we appreciate more than anything. Everyone thinks because coach (Nick) Saban is gone, 'Bama is (too) but they have some great coaches and players so they are about to shock some people as well." There's new belief Alabama found its next Jihaad Campbell for the future. USC, however, remains in strong shape post Griffin. The Trojans still lead all programs as the top-ranked recruiting class for 2026. Tight end Mark Bowman is the more recent five-star addition -- choosing USC in May. Alabama lands commitment from 2026 wide receiver for second consecutive day

Only a day after picking up their first wide receiver commitment of the 2026 recruiting cycle, the Alabama Crimson Tide have now landed yet another player at the position, as wideout Brian Williams committed to play his collegiate football in Tuscaloosa on Tuesday afternoon. Commitment No. 16 of Alabama's 2026 class, Williams is currently considered as the nation's No. 799 overall player in the cycle, according to the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings. A three-star prospect, Williams also ranks as the nation's No. 118 overall wide receiver, as well as the No. 104 prospect in the state of Florida where he attends The First Academy. Following the commitment of Williams, Alabama's 2026 class now sits at No. 7 overall nationally, according to the 247Sports Team Rankings. Alabama could also potentially pickup a third wide receiver commitment in as many days Wednesday, July 2, as one of the Crimson Tide's top targets, five-star in-state wideout Cederian Morgan, makes his decision.
