The Department of Public Safety says Rendell Schelske was driving a 1999 Cadillac DeVille north on 426th Avenue and slowed down at the intersection of 281st Street, attempting to make a U-turn.
At the same time, the driver of a 1998 Peterbilt 379 semi was traveling the same direction and attempted to maneuver around the Cadillac as it continued its U-turn. The vehicles collided and drove into the west ditch.
Schelske suffered fatal injuries.

An 18-year-old Utah mother locked her crying 2-year-old child in a sweltering car so she could watch the 'Smurfs' movie at a theater undisturbed, according to local police. Tripura Merriex pulled her crying daughter out of a showing of 'Smurfs' at the Regal Cinema in Lake City, Utah, on Saturday — and placed her in a 2002 Cadillac Escalade after failing to console the tot, according to CBS47. When Mirriex emerged from the movie theater, she attempted to brush off concern, behaved 'very nonchalant,' and 'acted as though the whole situation wasn't a big deal as she just stood next to her vehicle,' the police report stated. Mirriex, who attended the movie with her younger brother and sister, purposefully put the child in the sweltering SUV and periodically checked on the kid as the movie played, according to a witness cited by CBS47. A movie theater employee stated that Mirriex purposefully put the child in the car and periodically visited the SUV during the film. The 2-year-old child has recovered from what could have been a fatal incident and is doing OK, the family told the local CBS affiliate station. So far this year, at least 15 children have died after being left in hot cars in the US, according to the National Safety Council. An average of 37 children under the age of 15 die each year from heatstroke in vehicles.

Road rage driver opened fire on Palmetto Expressway. Highway patrol looking for him
The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for a man they say pulled out a gun and shot at another car on the Palmetto Expressway. Troopers say that on Thursday, around 2 p.m., they got a call about the shooting that occurred in the northbound lanes near Flagler Street. The driver of the targeted vehicle, a black Cadillac sedan, was not injured, but the rear window had a visible bullet hole. Investigators say the confrontation began near Southwest 24th Street and escalated when the suspect, driving a white Dodge truck, pulled out a gun and fired.

Police video shows fireworks tent in northern Michigan catch fire, explode
Michigan State Police are investigating what caused a fireworks tent in a northern Michigan parking lot to catch fire and explode. Police responded to a parking lot off Mitchell Street in Haring Township, outside of Cadillac in Wexford County, around 4:12 a.m. on July 5 for a report of a fireworks tent on fire. When troopers arrived in the parking lot, they found the tent on fire, with fireworks going off inside the tent. Crews from the Haring Township and Cadillac fire departments extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported, and no other structures were damaged. The Cadillac Police Department and Wexford County Sheriff's Office assisted troopers. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call MSP's Cadillac Post at 231-779-6040.
