Oklahoma Sooners commits climb in latest Rivals 300 updated rankings
Ahead of the senior season, Rivals, which recently merged with On3, released it's updated and reconfigured top 300 player rankings for the cycle. Currently, the Sooners have just four players included in the Rivals 300 but are trending positively for a pair of top 300 targets in wide receiver Davian Groce and edge Jake Kruel.

No. 41 Bowe Bentley, QB - Committed
Bowe Bentley is Oklahoma's top-rated commitment in the 2026 recruiting class. The Sooners earned a big recruiting win when he chose OU over LSU. The Sooners see a dual-threat quarterback in Bentley. He had a huge year for Celina, leading them to an undefeated season and state title in Texas 4A football. Bentley saw a big jump in the Rivals300 release and is considered the No. 4 quarterback in the class. Bentley climbed 15 spots in the latest update.
No. 54 Davian Groce, WR - Target
One of the top remaining targets for the Oklahoma Sooners, wide receiver Davian Groce has been trending toward the Sooners for some time, but there hasn't been a lot of buzz lately. Groce is a dynamic player with the ball in his hands and can help an offense at running back, outside wide receiver, in the slot, and can even make an impact as a return man. Groce dropped by three spots in the Rivals 300.
No. 151 Daniel Norman, EDGE - Committed
Daniel Norman saw one of the biggest jumps in the rankings in the class, moving up to just outside the top 150. Norman rose more than 200 spots. He's got big-time athleticism and great size for the position at 6-foot-4.
No. 175 Jake Kreul, EDGE - Target
Oklahoma target Jake Kreul had a strong performance in a recent Rivals camp, showing off his pass rush ability. What did that earn him? A 135-spot drop in the Rivals 300. 247Sports ranks the IMG Academy prospect as the No. 61 player overall, while ESPN sees Kreul as a five-star talent and the No. 22 player in the country for the 2026 recruiting class.
He's a refined edge rusher with the ability to mix speed and power to win. Kreul has great size and length and will be a difference maker at the collegiate level.
No. 177 Tyler Ruxer, TE - Committed
Tyler Ruxer saw a big jump after committing to the Oklahoma Sooners. He's got big-time speed that's capable of making big plays in the passing game. He's expected to convert to tight end at the collegiate level, which will provide Oklahoma a dynamic threat down the middle of the field. Ruxer rose nearly 200 spots in the latest update.
No. 254 Deacon Schmitt, OL - Committed
The Oklahoma Sooners got a big win when they landed four-star offensive line prospect Deacon Schmitt. He had big-time offers from around the SEC and Big Ten. He'll make the transition from offensive tackle to interior offensive line for the Sooners, adding to the guard depth that Bill Bedenbaugh has recruited over the last few cycles. Schmitt climbed nearly 50 spots in the Rivals 300.

A Red River Rivalry has broken out at Denver Broncos training camp and the beef isn't even about the Longhorns and Sooners. (Although it probably actually is) Texas Ex Malcolm Roach and former Sooners WR Marvin Mims have been going back and forth with snack talk all training camp long. Mims let the media in on the beef last week. Mims says the smack-talking at practice is all Roach, who happens to be Mims' locker neighbor. But, no, we're always going back and forth. But with him, it's just a whole 'nother deal." Roach addressed Mims the next day to the media. "Y'all think I really worry about 19, bruh?" Roach said. "I see him every day at the locker right by mine. He talk all -- you all think I talk, he really talk more than me -- but, I ain't worried about Marvin. Because Marvin know he not about to cut that ball back across the middle. That's all I really have to say on that. And Marvin like a mosquito, bro, like he need to worry about that. I could lose this weight. He can't change them looks." Roach, a 6-3, 290-pound defensive tackle, towers over the 5-11, 182-pound Mims. The 27-year-old Roach is coming off the best season with 43 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Mims was an All-Pro last year after totaling 1,147 all-purpose yards and scoring six touchdowns in 2024. However, there are a few in particular that stand the test of time. With the 2025 college football season almost here, Rivals took a trip down memory lane to name the top 32 recruits since 2000. Plenty of notable names made this list, such as Jadeveon Clowney, Percy Harvin and Julio Jones. The top five kicked off with former Auburn quarterback Cam Newton. It's safe to say he lived up to the hype, winning an MVP during his NFL career. The No. 4 recruit on this list was none other than Florida legend Tim Tebow. He won a Heisman Trophy and two national titles during his time in Gainesville. Legendary NFL running back Adrian Peterson claimed the No. 3 spot in the all-time Rival rankings. Where things really get interesting is the top two. Texas legend Vince Young was named the second-best recruit since 2000. There's no doubt he left his mark on the Longhorns. At the end of the day though, it was USC running back Reggie Bush who took home the No. 1 spot. "While playing alongside future No. 1 overall pick Alex Smith at Helix, Bush established himself as one of the most electric high school players both in California and across the country," Rivals wrote. "As a senior in 2002, he ran for 1,691 yards on 140 carries (12.1 YPC) and 27 touchdowns despite missing four games due to injury. He ultimately signed with USC and was one of the country's most dynamic players during the next three seasons, racking up 6,541 all-purpose yards and 52 touchdowns in the rushing, receiving and return game. Bush was a regular on SportsCenter's top-10 highlights and took home the Heisman Trophy in 2005 before declaring for the NFL Draft. He was taken No. 2 overall by the New Orleans Saints but struggled to have the same success at the pro level. He did, however, earn All-Pro honors in 2008." Ohio State QB Julian Sayin on leaving Alabama, competing at OSU, Will Howard's mentorship
Presumed Ohio State starting quarterback Julian Sayin recently joined On3's 'Off Script' with host Zak Herbstreit to reflect on his first year and a half in Columbus. Sayin spoke about taking on more of a behind-the-scenes role last season, using the opportunity to learn from College Football Playoff national championship-winning quarterback Will Howard. 'I think I learned a lot last year,' said Sayin. 'Learning from Will, just learned, you know, how to be a leader. He was a great leader for the offense and for the team, and, you know, I think that was definitely something I tried to learn from him. And, definitely learned a lot also from Will. You know, just learning about the preparation aspect and, you know, how much preparation goes into each week." Coming out of high school, Sayin was a five-star recruit and ranked as the No. 2 quarterback in the nation. He originally committed to Alabama, but after the retirement of legendary head coach Nick Saban, Sayin made the decision to transfer to Ohio State. In the interview, he also opened up about his thought process behind leaving Tuscaloosa and choosing to continue his journey in Columbus. 'When I ended up going to Alabama, I wanted to go play for Coach Saban," Sayin said. "And when he retired, I decided to transfer and Ohio State was just a big decision for me and I was excited to make it just because of the quarterback development history they've had with Coach Day.' 'The guys like Justin Fields, CJ Stroud come before and they've done a great job with quarterbacks and then just the talent they have at the offensive skill positions," continued Sayin. "It was definitely a great decision for me and I couldn't be happier." Sayin is still locked in a quarterback competition with Lincoln Kienholz for the starting job as the Buckeyes prepare to open their season against the Texas Longhorns on August 30. However, the redshirt sophomore carries himself with a calm confidence, shaped by last year's championship run, where he learned behind veteran Will Howard, and by the Buckeyes' storied tradition of quarterback development.
