Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) celebrated the 11th
(IDY) at its Sports Complex under the theme 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health.' The event saw active participation from thousands of students, teachers, and staff.

The grand celebration was organised by the Games & Sports Department, JMI, in collaboration with the Office of the Dean, Students' Welfare, JMI. Thousands of teaching and non-teaching staff and students participated in International Yoga Day and witnessed the address of the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India. Thereafter, all the participants practiced yoga as per the protocol suggested by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, under the supervision of Yoga Teacher/Guru Prof (Dr) Badrul Islam Kairanvi, Director, Institute of Dr BIK Yoga & Clinic of AYUSH Paramedics, New Delhi & Former Training Commissioner, KVS BSG-Ministry of HRD, Govt of India, New Delhi.
The yoga teacher demonstrated various mudras and asanas to the participants, telling them about their specific values and importance in the healing process of various diseases and in maintaining bodily posture and flexibility.
Prof. Asif highlighted the importance of the rich and ancient tradition of yoga to attain a healthy mind, body, and soul. He urged the JMI community to fully integrate yoga into their daily lives.
He stated, "Yoga is the best way to clean the heart and maintain a peaceful and harmonious self.

(thought), and the way to keep the mind and our thoughts pure is to keep the heart healthy." The programme included members from various departments, Jamia schools, and student groups like NCC and NSS. Dressed in IDY 2025 T-shirts, they performed asanas together as a show of unity.
A special radio segment on Radio Jamia FM 90.4 and several pre-event training sessions added to the university's celebration of Yoga Day.

This year's International Day of Yoga, observed last week, advocated the theme 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health', underlining that personal wellness and the health of the planet are linked. While people all over the country took to their mats in celebration of this wellness routine, the philosophy echoed around the world. The lawns of the United Nations headquarters in New York were lined with colourful mats with over 1,200 practising yoga together. Terming yoga a 'pause button' that the world needs in times of instability and uncertainty, Prime Minister Narendra Modi put forward the idea of yoga for humanity, where inner peace becomes a global policy. Although primarily a practice of health and well-being, the International Day of Yoga also turned a platform for social media spotlight with participants being keen to take their activities online. The UN resolution in 2014 that adopted June 21 as the International Day of Yoga had noted the 'importance of individuals and populations making healthier choices and following lifestyle patterns that foster good health'. The World Health Organization has urged its member states to help their citizens get over physical inactivity, which is a key risk factor for non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and diabetes. Recognising the importance of yoga as a tool to battle physical inactivity and encourage mental stimulation as well as relaxation is one of the key missions of the International Day of Yoga and the trend visible across many countries suggests that awareness is catching on. The Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre (MLIRC) celebrated International Yoga Day with week-long activities. MLIRC officers, personnel and their families participated in various activities. The event commenced with an inaugural address by Commandant of MLIRC Brigadier Joydip Mukherjee who emphasised the growing relevance of Yoga as a sustainable health practice that enhances both individual resilience and collective harmony. He underscored the 2025 theme, 'One Earth, One Health', which resonates deeply with the Army's ethos of self-discipline, balance and unity with nature. Soldiers, families and school children of APS Belagavi participated in large numbers, demonstrating their commitment to wellness. The week-long celebrations included a diverse array of practices such as Hatha Yoga, Pranayama and Guided Meditation, which not only introduced participants to the foundational elements of Yoga but also equipped them with practical tools to manage stress, enhance mental clarity and build emotional resilience. The Indian Army continues to champion health and wellness initiatives that strengthen the mind and body of its personnel and their families. This year's International Day of Yoga served as a powerful reaffirmation of the Army's dedication to building a resilient, healthy and environmentally conscious community, in perfect alignment with the global theme, 'One Earth, One Health', said a release.

It can alleviate stress, promote better posture and even increase creativity in just five minutes. These micro-movements do more than just stretch out your body; they're an invitation to peace for your mind.' Himalayan Siddhaa Akshar shared these 5 yoga poses: 1. Seated neck rolls: Sit tall, drop your right ear toward your right shoulder, then very gently roll your neck forward and to the left. Breathe slowly. Repeat on both sides. 2. Shoulder rolls: Shrug your shoulders up to your ears and then roll them back and down. Small A 10 slow rolls forward and backward will loosen any tension in your shoulder. Seated spinal twist: Your right hand goes on the back of the chair, left hand toward your right knee. Twist gently to the right. Hold for 30 seconds. Switch sides. Wrist and finger stretches: Note that when doing these stretches, you may also want to gently massage your fingers together and apart to create your own natural resistance. Extend one arm out in front of you, palm facing up, and lightly tug the fingers towards you with the other hand. Switch hands. Next do a quick shake of your wrists to alleviate any wrist tightness. 5. Deep breathing: Close your eyes, sit tall, and take a deep breath in through your nose for a count of four. Exhale slowly for 6 counts. Repeat for a minute. 'These five minutes are not a break from work, they are a break for you. A moment to reset, to breathe and to check in with yourself,' said the yoga expert.
